My Professions Have Too Much Personality

Chapter 128 - 105: The Core Seed’s Treatment

Chapter 128: Chapter 105: The Core Seed’s Treatment

He figured that Old Xia couldn’t have gone over the details with Old Sang too meticulously.

After he spoke, even the taciturn Teng Liang couldn’t help but look over, finding it somewhat incredible.

“With those kinds of class-change conditions, how did you manage to fulfill them?” Even Xia Hanshi was surprised.

“A forced class change…” Su Chen explained. “I was pretty lucky.”

Xia Hanshi gave him a deep look. “Another forced class change. Your luck is truly something else. The boost from a forced change isn’t very high; it must have been the combination of Scholar, Wise Man, and Saint that elevated your Red Gold Talent to the Ink Jade Level.”

Old Xia didn’t press the matter, saying instead, “Building a good relationship with the Translation Department is a good choice.”

“I’m just rather curious about the Translation Department…” Su Chen didn’t get to finish his explanation before Xia Hanshi cut him off. “You don’t need to say so much. I’m not Yuan Chenyang. If you can build a connection with the Translation Department, there are many benefits.”

“However…” Xia Hanshi’s tone shifted. “You really did give me a pleasant surprise with this assessment. It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to shove it in their faces.”

This time, his tone was tinged with nostalgia. “I never expected to produce a Core Seed under my watch.”

“But making an exception this time has caused quite a stir. Those four have been in their positions for many years. Now that two challengers have suddenly appeared, they’re not likely to just take it lying down.”

“I understand.” Gu Bing had hinted as much to him on the way here, so Su Chen wasn’t surprised. He seized the opportunity to say, “Teacher, although my Spirit Talent is Ink Jade Level, my physical talent is also Red Gold.”

“So, between the Gravity Training Chamber and the Spirit Realm Council, if I can only choose one…”

“Hmm…” Xia Hanshi thought for a moment, then said, “I’ll handle it for you. The same goes for the number of classes you can choose. Normally, you can only pick one.”

“And the potions,” Su Chen added, striking while the iron was hot.

“The potions are a bit tricky…” Xia Hanshi didn’t mince words. “The number of classes and the auxiliary training equipment are one-time arrangements, but potions are a monthly supply. I can’t go to them every month, and I can’t make the department grant a recurring exception just for you.”

You could force a one-time deal through, but a long-term supply was much more troublesome.

“So… what’s the situation with Gu Bing’s family?” Su Chen asked thoughtfully, changing the subject.

“Gu Bing’s family?” Xia Hanshi paused for a moment, then looked at the man beside him. “Teng Liang.”

The silent man beside him immediately spoke. “The Gu Family. They’re in the business of selling the flesh of Mutant Species within the city. One hundred and twenty years ago, they produced a City Patrol Minister.”

“In the last twenty years, their highest-ranking member was her second uncle, a section chief in the Exploration Department. But he died outside the city six months ago. Their business is being seized, and several families are preparing to carve them up.”

“That girl acts fast. It’s not a major issue. We can back them,” Xia Hanshi said with a nod upon hearing the report.

“Understood,” Su Chen nodded.

But Xia Hanshi added a warning, “It’s fine to play around with women, but don’t get emotionally invested. The path of power requires you to climb endlessly. That is the path you should walk.”

“Uh…” Su Chen said helplessly. “I’m just more familiar with her, that’s all.”

“As long as you know what you’re doing.” Xia Hanshi didn’t lecture him further. With a wave of his hand, Teng Liang, who was standing nearby, led a mechanical puppet out.

“Sit.” Xia Hanshi pointed to a sofa.

As he sat, Su Chen suddenly recalled some rumors he had heard, and he couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.

Xia Hanshi cut straight to the chase. “You’ve probably heard that before you, I had three other Red Gold Level seeds. But they were all broken.”

“They’re just rumors. I never believed them.” Su Chen wasn’t lying; he truly didn’t believe that Xia Hanshi would have his own three students killed.

Xia Hanshi sneered. “The people spreading those rumors are quite careful with their wording. They only use ’broken,’ not daring to use the word ’dead.’”

“Those senior brothers of yours are indeed not dead. They are merely trapped in a certain place.”

“Do you need me to rescue them?” Su Chen offered.

“No…” Xia Hanshi shook his head, his expression unreadable.

Unable to grasp what Xia Hanshi was thinking, Su Chen could only say, “Since they are my senior brothers, I’ve inherited a connection to them. If I have the ability, I’d like to give it a try.”

Xia Hanshi gave him a deep look. “I know you’re a deep thinker, kid, but don’t get the wrong idea. I’m telling you all this to keep you from overthinking.”

’You telling me this is what’s making me overthink,’ Su Chen muttered to himself.

Xia Hanshi also sensed the atmosphere was off. His intention had been to explain things and put Su Chen at ease.

But he realized that continuing would likely just make Su Chen think even more, so he said decisively, “Don’t even think about this matter before you reach Tier Four.”

The two of them tacitly dropped the subject. Xia Hanshi called Teng Liang back in. “Take this kid to his new residence. It should be vacant by now.”

“Yes.”

Teng Liang wasn’t a man of many words. He just motioned for Su Chen to follow and led the way out.

“Senior Brother Teng?”

On the way, Su Chen tested the waters with the title, as he wasn’t sure if the man was actually one of Xia Hanshi’s students.

Teng Liang didn’t object to the address, merely giving an almost imperceptible nod.

’What a clam,’ Su Chen thought. Seeing that Teng Liang had no intention of talking, Su Chen kept quiet as well and followed him to a villa.

“This is where you’ll be living.” Teng Liang pointed, then turned and left without another word.

Su Chen found his behavior baffling. He withdrew his gaze from the man’s retreating back and walked straight into the villa before him.

“Master…”

The moment he opened the door, he was greeted by an exquisite, doll-like woman in a maid’s uniform.

“Tsk…” Su Chen leaned in close to her, but she simply maintained her signature smile.

’A mechanical puppet…’ Su Chen tentatively pinched her cheek. It was very supple, with a texture similar to real skin, but no item notification appeared.

’It’s not being registered as a Tiered Item. Is it because the composition of this thing is too complex?’
