Chapter 2966: Chapter 988: Millennium Divergence · Eden vs. Revival

"Ah, land of the creator, I have returned."

In the deepest underground of Charldo Harbor, in a certain excavated underground space, Mr. Scholar, who arrived on a simple mechanical elevator, sighed.

As he stepped out of the elevator, the three sages of the Mechanical Church respectfully greeted him.

There was a human and two Half-body Men.

But they had undergone quite complex and terrifying body modifications. Among them, the human mechanic had transformed most of his body into a steam structure, with only a red artificial eye remaining in his head.

He covered his mutation with a tattered robe, but one could vaguely see something abnormal, like curled arms, moving behind the robe.

The self-modification of the two Half-body Mechanics was even more radical.

Their bodies were completely mechanical puppets, with only the wetware core in their skulls being "original."

The meat on these three people’s bodies would amount to less than two ounces...

"How long has it been since we last met?"

The scholar looked at the three before him with gentle eyes, saying with a sigh:

"When I left, I never thought that in the distant future, we would meet again in such a form, my dear old friends. So many years have passed, yet you all continue to diligently strive for the common goal we set back then.

Compared to your efforts over the years, I seem like a coward hiding away to enjoy life.

But our fates have finally intertwined, friends. I have glimpsed the ultimate power left by the creator, and now, with the most excited heart, I invite you all to join this enterprise.

Steve, Marvin, and Eborson, what is your response?"

"It’s been a long time since anyone called us by those names, Bach."

The tallest human mechanic let out a clanking laugh.

His mechanical eye beneath the robe flashed coldly, scanning the old friend before him, he said:

"Of course, just as you once led us onto this path to immortality, we remain willing to follow your wisdom and dedicate our power to a greater cause. But before that, we might need to finish this endeavor we’ve invested two hundred years into; there’s just one last step remaining.

We are about to open that door..."

The other two Half-body Mechanics nodded repeatedly, indicating their thoughts.

"That’s precisely why I am here."

The scholar waved his cane, saying:

"With the knowledge and might of the creator, I have finally awakened ’Revival’ Your Excellence. We shall obtain the knowledge behind that door and use it as a key to unlock a more magnificent future. Come, let us open that door."

He waved his hand forward, and the high-ranking members of the Mechanical Church surrounded the returning First Generation Leader, heading towards the deepest part of the underground space, while Shadow Elves Botis carried the biological tank with Penny inside, watching the group of fanatical mechanical church members with eyes of fear and caution.

Various races existed among these people, even elves and Sanghai people.

But their common trait was that their bodies had undergone various modifications, and although Botis was not a physician, he held the identity of a mechanic within the Slave Master faction. He could tell many did not need to replace their bodies with machinery, but they did so anyway.

It seemed this self-modification was less a need and more a peculiar "rite of initiation," similar to how the priests of Lady Spider conducted the Spider Transformation Ritual.

Yet this widespread self-modification had been turned into something akin to a church ritual by these folks, suggesting a belief centered around mechanical worship in Charldo Harbor?

Botis mused, feeling uneasy.

Upon seeing the extent of these mechanics’ self-modifications, he belatedly realized how Mr. Scholar intended to "revive" Penny, and understood why those words were spoken to him in the car earlier.

Penny might be revived under the creator’s power, but she would definitely not be the same as before. Thinking this, Shadow Elves Botis instinctively tightened the strap of the biological tank on his back, feeling somewhat regretful.

Perhaps before such extreme "rescue," he and his mentor should consider other methods.

"What are you thinking?"

Just as Botis stopped in his tracks, Sarifov’s deep voice suddenly sounded in his ear, startling the somewhat timid Shadow Elf male. He turned back to see the shadows beside Lord of Slaves flickering.

"About Penny!"

Botis, as if finding his backbone, told Sarifov everything he had seen and thought. After listening, Sarifov shook his head and said:

"I have discussed this with the scholar; Penny’s situation is very unique.

Her body being purified by the power of creation means she can no longer accept the cloning resurrection that the Scholar Faction excels at. To keep her alive, only this extreme method can be used; otherwise, we can only let Penny die in painful ongoing purification.

There is no other way, Botis, we must do this."

"I..."

The Shadow Elf wanted to persist, but seeing Lord Salifo’s expression and the determination in his eyes, Botis knew he had no chance.
