"Freezing that much liquid in an instant? You’d probably need Old Su Head or one of His chosen to show up in person, right?"

"Hey, get up here, quick! Old Qin just gave the order—everyone fall back to the high ground and get ready for a countercharge!"

Yan Song’s shout cut off the Big Bird Team members’ snark, leaving them staring at each other.

Did Old Qin finally crack under the pressure?

The whole front was already underwater—how were the brothers supposed to charge?

What, were they supposed to imitate those Martial Monks and run on the water?

But orders were orders. A few minutes later, everyone, including the Big Bird Team, had pulled back to the nearest high ground. As they waited, a long, distant wolf howl suddenly tore through the roaring storm, echoing in the night rain over the Port District, making Meow Brother snap his head back to look behind.

"I think I’ve heard that voice before!"

He blinked in confusion.

The next instant, a gale of killing cold came sweeping across the entire Port District from the direction of that wolf howl.

Everything the cold wind touched froze, as if white frost were descending. The sudden chill blasted against Meow Brother, frosting over his armor; the newbies beside him, caught off guard, shivered violently and cursed, "It’s freezing your dad to death here!"

"Holy shit! Your crow mouths really are goddamn cursed."

While everything was freezing over, Yan Song, whose eyesight was the best, suddenly screamed:

"Look! The ’Calamity Winter Wolf’ Eris is here!"

Following his pointing finger, the players saw a pitch-black Winter Wolf leap from the rear line, bounding joyfully across the city it had frozen, charging straight toward the flooded dock district.

Its claws were wreathed in the Power of the Winter’s Cold granted by Old Su Head. The moment they touched the murky seawater, the surging surface turned into a constantly expanding Wall of Winter’s Cold.

With the Black Winter Wolf’s signature skyward howl, the battlefield that the Merfolk had just turned into a tidal killing ground with their terrain tactics was turned back into an icefield by Eris using the exact same trick.

Of course, Eris wasn’t Old Su Head; it was still some distance away from the life tier of a Demigod and couldn’t pull off the miracle of freezing an entire sea. The spreading ice sheet only just reached the edge of the Port District before it stopped advancing and instead deepened downward, freezing everything below and turning the Merfolk and their Sea Beasts that failed to escape in time into adorable crushed ice.

"The time for counterattack has come! Brothers, charge with me!"

Meow Brother, who’d been burning with frustration, lit up the moment he saw this.

He let out a roar and jumped down from the high ground through the storm and night rain, charging forward over the icy surface with his battle-axe held high. The members of the Big Bird Team followed him out of the defensive line, and high above, Triss, who was suppressing the storm ritual, lowered her head to look.

The scene looked just like a wolf pack hunting on the tundra. Players poured onto the ice from all directions, surging toward where Eris was, while the Vampire Air Troops made their move as well, dropping aerial bombs along the edge of the icefield and drawing a dancing line of fire.

Farther away, when Triss looked up, she saw brilliant Scorching Sunlight in the sky cleaving down like a sword.

The solar bombardment had arrived too!

The Sanghai People had caught up. Bright pillars of fire fell from above the clouds, their radiance and heat dispersing in an instant the storm the Merfolk had cast over the city, bringing light and warmth back to this besieged place. Their pinpoint strikes also obliterated the core of the Merfolk’s storm ritual in a heartbeat.

Without The Hidden Worship of Daguan sustaining it, the great storm’s energy level began to plummet rapidly.

"Take off! Take off! Move! Our brothers need us!"

Doujiang Baidao, who had been nervously monitoring the weather, spun around and shouted to the airship operators behind him:

"Brothers, it’s time to set the sea on fire! Let’s burn those stinking salted fish to death."

At his roar, three Armed Airships already loaded to the brim with explosives lifted off at once. They soared over the city and the troops below whose armor glimmered faintly in the night, over Eris tearing into the Sea Beasts and the warriors making their countercharge.

Finally, under the cold orders of Doujiang Baidao and the other two captains, the bomb bays of the airships, flying headlong into the gale, swung open.

The black aerial bombs once more turned into iron rain, slamming down onto the churning black sea with Transylvania’s fury. Those ugly Merfolk tried to sink deeper, letting the ocean shield them, but as those howling Hell-forged weapons fell, even the boundless sea surged into a sheet of fire.

From a distance, it truly looked as if the sea itself had been set ablaze.

Thus, just outside Charldo Harbor’s Port District, a wondrous sight of ice and flame entwined unfolded, and the Undying Spirits fought the villains of the deep amid that spectacle.

The battle was not yet over, but the shadow shrouding the city had already been torn open a crack. Perhaps at the next dawn, a warmer light would once again pour down.

"Um... Duke Triss!"

Eris, who had just bitten a giant octopus to death and dragged it onto the icefield to sample some "seafood," tilted its head back and shouted up to the Vampire Duke in the sky:

"According to the work contract between me and Murphy, who’s going to settle this bill for me in a bit? Fighting wars and stuff is really exhausting. Considering how hard I’ve been working, giving me double pay for this job shouldn’t be too much, right?"
