Chapter 2957: Chapter 985: Ah, Before My Eyes... Nothing but Merfolk...

The time for the Merfolk attack given by Babro was at midnight, but from half-past nine in the evening, the weather over Charldo Harbor changed drastically. Though sudden changes in climate are common in harbor cities, turning from starlit reflections to a storm-driven torrential rain in just twenty minutes was still a sign of abnormality.

The Psychics among the players had all sensed the strangeness of this rain, but their current level of spell-casting wasn’t enough to counter it. They could only hold their ground in the combat areas assigned to them. At this time, they could at least be thankful that their first city battle had somewhere to shelter from the wind and rain.

Yet, before they could finish being thankful, an even more exaggerated storm enveloped the entire Port District.

The terrifying gale beat the rain into an environment so complex that even vampires couldn’t fight in the air, while the tide outside the harbor rose quickly, submerging the pier in just over ten minutes.

There was no need for an alarm; all the players and Half-body Man City Defense Army on the fortifications knew—the Daguan Fishmen were here.

The first wave of attack by these deep-sea barbarians unfolded amidst the sweeping lightning storm, with the bizarrely dressed Daguan Abyssal Walkers stepping on the waves, calling upon Spiritual Energy with their croaking Merfolk language in subspace Tidal Spirit form.

In the raging storm, glaring lightning struck down, crippling several walking machines deployed by the Half-body Men on the foremost positions in a single glance.

The previously brightly lit dock area dimmed at this moment, and without the light from the gas lamps, the Half-body Men’s morale plummeted. The relentless downpour rendered their city defense cannons unable to aim at all.

The booming cannon sounds echoed, but the scattered impact points indicated they were only trying to muster their courage in this way.

The players deployed on the frontline had realized something was wrong; they were now shouting on the player channel about being tricked by the development team. The game’s forum data clearly stated the Merfolk were weak! But look at how they pave the way with high-level spells like a lightning storm, is that weak?

This kind of performance is almost identical to Wolf People, isn’t it?

The only difference is that Wolf People use Meteorite Skill while these Merfolk summon storms and lightning.

"The Merfolk are coming up! They’re hiding in the water! Brothers, prepare to open fire!"

On the rooftop of the Port Authority in the dock area, the three brothers fooling around here immediately raised the alarm when they noticed the dark figures rushing out of the water, and the sniper named Eating Fish Fired the first shot.

The precisely calibrated Mosin Nagant still fired a crisp sound in the rainy night, taking down the Merfolk vanguard holding a strange beast bone battle flag with one shot.

The good news is, the individual strength of the Merfolk is indeed relatively weak; ordinary bullets can penetrate their bodies.

The bad news is, these guys were just the vanguard of the first probing attack, and their numbers were spread all over where the tide could reach.

"Damn!"

Eating Fish cursed, tossed his hunting weapon back into his bag, drew the Blood Vulture Claw with a reverse grip, and fired at the hideous monsters surging forward in the stormy dark night. The sharp rapid fire felled the fastest wave of Merfolk, but a lightning arrow from the rear made Brother Ah Bing paralyzed by electric shock.

Mustard micro-fool beside him quickly raised a large shield to block the poisonous arrows shot afterward, while others hastily pulled Eating Fish Brother back, and Brother Prodigal aimed and fired an Iron Fist Missile downwards; in the explosion’s flash, Eating Fish gripped the ignition device and pressed down hard.

A second later, a line of fire ignited along the center of Pier No. 1 at the Port Authority road, as pre-laid bombs detonated, shaking the frontline battlefield to its core.

"Firepower barrage, aim ahead! Fire!"

Happy Stick, at the rear positions, raised a flail.

On the open ground behind him, a hundred small tubes were aimed and, amid the frantic reloading by newbies, fired explosive grenades forward.

The gale was battering, and the Half-body Men were overwhelmed by the crushing sea scene, showing signs of routing, but the players stood firm amid the lightning and thunder.

They advanced in an orderly fashion according to the original plan, sniping as they went, constantly using various explosives to consume the enemy’s viable forces before they could come into contact.

Having just defeated the Black Disaster’s Wolf People and slain the Barbaric God, ordinary Merfolk, though powerful, weren’t enough to affect the players’ locked-down morale.

Yet, the immense spell-casting power of the Merfolk exceeded the players’ expectations. During the fourth round fired by the iron pipe boys, a lightning storm was precisely unleashed above the firepower point, with the blinding lightning flashing across the positions in a sweeping manner.

In such a torrential downpour, avoiding electrical conduction was impossible, so this firepower point was essentially scrapped amidst the descending lightning’s rampage.

The Merfolk’s advance was swift.

Without the suppression from grenades, they reached Happy Stick’s frontlines within minutes; the barbed wires blocked some Merfolk, but more black creatures hunched forward through the rain towards the fully armed warriors.

The creatures emitted a shrill, unpleasant howl, attempting to scare the players into retreating.

Unfortunately, what met them was a more resolute bullet storm; Happy Stick led the three hundred strong Crimson Hammer Sickle Group, causing terrifying damage with a volley from their Blood Vulture Claws at such a close range. This guild was synonymous with elite players, chosen by Lord Qin to withstand the Merfolk’s charge.
