Chapter 2879: Chapter 960: Peacemaker Master Su: Will You All Do Me This Small Favor? (Part 2)
Amid that wild roar, Murphy seemed to see the glorious scene of the Solar Fire sweeping across the Subspace Battlefield, the Feathered Serpent God striding across the battlefield under the blazing sun, looking far mightier than Bevam’s sorry mess.
No wonder it’s one of the standouts among the new gods.
But Murphy saying he had to deal with government affairs wasn’t just an excuse; he took Adel and left the Maginot Line, flying toward Cardman City’s current location. By the time they arrived, the Crimson Regent, Milian, who had been holding the rear, was already there waiting.
Wearing her formal uniform, Milian was sitting in her carriage organizing the meeting minutes. When she saw Murphy arrive, the exhausted-looking woman got out to greet him; her first words were:
"This is tricky. The negotiations have collapsed. Lupa has absolutely no intention of talking to us about this."
"Hm?"
Murphy’s brows knitted.
He glanced farther off into the distance, where a rather luxurious blue-and-gold carriage was parked. Just the white stallions pulling it numbered nine, and it was surrounded by fully armed Winter Wolf Swordsaints and Northern Wind Guard, with Nordtof’s national flag and the Romanov Family standard flying above.
Andre was standing among the crowd, waving at Murphy. He was dressed in Nordtof’s traditional clothing and had put on those cumbersome yet luxurious Earl’s ornaments, signifying that some important figure had arrived here in the night.
And Old Su Head, who had been lying around resting on this ice field these past few days, had unusually changed positions as well, and was talking to some mortal by a broken cliff at the Klim Fort Ruins.
Lupa had come in person!
It looked like one of those "incognito inspections," but even a Queen’s idea of low-key still came off way too high-profile.
"Before Lupa’s audience with the God of the North Wind, I spoke to her for twenty minutes. As you instructed before, I informed her of Transylvania’s claim over the Kafuhoka Region and emphasized that we could reclaim the territory through a利益 exchange."
"But that young Queen’s stance was extremely firm."
Rubbing her temples, Milian said:
"She rejected that proposal and stated that Nordtof will not give up any territory."
"She’s that hardline?"
Murphy said:
"With Cardman City already blocking off the southeastern corner of Kavkhoka, and she’s still this insistent, has she really prepared herself to pay the price of a war? That doesn’t make sense. General Baldwin should have tried to dissuade her on this. The Lupa of rumor isn’t the kind of Monarch who doesn’t know how to take advice.
This kind of decisiveness—almost reckless—doesn’t really match her style."
"I also think there’s something off about this whole thing, inside and out. I’ve been chewing on it, trying to analyze. I keep feeling that there’s some deeper meaning hidden in Lupa’s overly firm attitude, but for the moment, it’s hard to grasp what she’s trying to convey."
Milian glanced in Lupa’s direction, then said with a hint of envy:
"But that Nord Queen’s presence really is overwhelming, like a block of unbreakable millennia-old ice that no hardship can shatter. When I talk to her, I even find it hard to assert a firm position; I unconsciously start putting myself in the role of her subject.
This must be that so‑called ’born to be king’ aura."
"All right then, let me see for myself how imposing this northern chick Queen is."
Murphy tidied up his appearance, then had Adel drape the lord’s cloak over him and fasten the red Governor’s sash. Milian also presented her lord with a scepter—this thing had been sent from the Ice Palace to Transylvania some time ago, and symbolized the seal of Lupa’s appointment of him as Governor.
On paper, Murphy really was a subject of Her Majesty Angelina; after all, that appointment document was still sitting in the administration building.
"I suspect you might be charmed tonight by Wolf Queen Majesty’s grace. After all, you’ve always had a soft spot for independent women."
Milian joked:
"Maybe after tonight, aside from The Grand Duke of Triss and Duchess Shani, there’ll be yet another headache of an enemy."
"There’s nothing going on between me and Shani. Don’t spread nonsense. It’d be bad if she heard."
Murphy scolded with a straight face, then drew out his words:
"As for Lupa’s majesty, maybe in the past it might’ve been awe‑inspiring, but tonight? No way. I did just conquer a Divine Spirit, after all—I’m already in a state of pure-hearted abstinence."
"Huh?"
Milian froze.
She thought Murphy was joking.
But then Adel regretfully nodded, giving the Crimson Regent a far more direct and profound appreciation of her lord’s charm.
Murphy actually slept with a god?
Fuck, that’s absurd even by absurd standards!
But Sir Morphy, is it really okay for you to blurt out something like that in public?
Aren’t you worried The Grand Duke of Triss... Wait, why is Sir Morphy telling me this? Is he testing whether I’ll secretly leak this to Lady Triss? Is this some kind of damned Loyalty test?
Ever since becoming a Governor, Milian had a tendency to overthink; her thoughts began to spiral. Murphy gave her a glance, feeling that this once pure girl really couldn’t be salvaged now—her head seemed stuffed full of schemes.
He’d just thrown that out casually, as a complaint between friends.
He shook his head and turned to walk towards Lupa and Old Su Head. The Winter Wolf Swordsaints did not obstruct the Governor of Transia’s audience, and Count Bai of White Mountain personally came forward to act as Murphy’s guide.
"What’s going on exactly?"
With a serious expression, Murphy used mimicry speech and asked:
"Why is your sister being so firm?"
"I don’t know. But I heard this was actually Duchess Shani’s idea."
