Chapter 2869: Chapter 957: A Name Is the Greatest Blessing for a New Life—Happy Birthday, Lady Rose

Avalon didn’t have much to say about Lady Spider gaining her freedom; he didn’t even express any objection on paper. This seemed to confirm what Lady Spider had just complained to Murphy about regarding Avalon’s scheming nature.

All of this had been within his plan.

Perhaps the truth was just as Lady Spider said: the two Divine Spirits had been bound in this contradictory relationship for so long that they’d long since grown sick of each other. Under such circumstances, granting each other freedom might preserve a sliver of incense-burning sentiment; if they kept tearing at each other, it would definitely end in tragedy.

After asking the "victim" and receiving a positive answer, Murphy raised his head to look at the black figure before him with a nebula for a face. He glanced at the Primitive Shrine floating at his side and said:

"Swear an oath. I’ll invite the creator to witness it, to serve as a restraint from a mere mortal like me upon a Divine Spirit."

"Perhaps we can change the method. This is a bit too extreme."

Lady Spider was clearly unwilling. She said:

"The words of the Divine Spirit carry their own power. I struggled and sifted my way through the Network of Destiny to escape the shackles of the frontier contract, and now you hand me another chain. This seems a bit too unfair to me."

"But for this world on the brink, it’s just right."

Murphy shook his head and said:

"What happened with The Master of Hunting cannot be allowed to happen a second time. The collective corruption of the Shadow Elves is far more dangerous than the Wolf People. Your servants already have a complete civil system and play a rather important role in the dark regions of the Continent.

They are a part of this Continent’s order. I cannot accept an outcome where the situation collapses because of me.

Please understand as well: freedom always has a price.

Things gained without any cost are cherished by no one; this is the same for Divine Spirits.

So there is no room for negotiation on this part.

Either you swear the oath, or I turn around and walk away!

If this is truly, as you said, the only and perfect opportunity you can find, then you have but this one choice left. If you are lying, then it proves that this conversation was harboring ill intent from the start, and my refusal would be entirely justified."

Faced with these words, Lady Spider fell silent.

Murphy didn’t press her. He simply held the Shrine in his hand and examined it carefully. Time ticked by, second after second. When Murphy had turned the Shrine over in his hands for the third time, the black shadow before him finally spoke.

"Then, here and now I swear this oath: the Network of Destiny I weave shall take you as its absolute center.

Before your story ends, I will not turn my gaze away from you. For the fates of others, I will only observe and maintain the minimum level of intervention. When you require aid, I will actively respond and do my utmost.

Please, Lord creator, bear witness to this oath."

Murphy nodded and, at the same time, grumbled inwardly: sure enough, no one knows you better than yourself. Avalon’s speech just now had perfectly predicted the contents of Lady Spider’s oath.

Fate, as expected, only stands on the side of the victor.

He didn’t know whether the creator had actually witnessed this oath, but the language of the Divine Spirits had its own power. As this self-binding oath took shape, the shadowy form before him underwent a subtle change: starlight flickered and gathered on Lady Spider’s left wrist, forming a hovering, spinning bracelet.

It looked like a woman’s ornament, and also like a delicate shackle.

Even a slight change in aspect was a major event for a Divine Spirit. The appearance of this thing meant that Lady Spider had no intention of going back on her word, and it fully proved her sincerity.

"Then what should I do?"

Murphy raised the Shrine before him. Lady Spider let out a breath; the expectation and excitement she felt no longer needed words. She reminded him:

"I will begin, at the level of existence, to detach from Avalon’s main body. You do not need to intervene. Until the final moment of separation, all you need to do is use this Primitive Shrine to apply your power to both of our individual beings, completely severing the connection between Avalon and me, then help ’disinfect’ him.

Because of my existence, Avalon’s artificial divinity has kept the corruption-monitoring of the Divine Kingdom in a highly pressurized state. This has forced him, while bearing the pressure of war, to also mind the rear. He is already exhausted.

Your intervention will allow the artificial divinity to return to a calm state, which is a good thing for both him and me."

"Mm, sounds simple enough. So when do we start?"

Murphy asked, and Lady Spider’s projection dissipated into smoke, leaving only an echo in the air:

"The moment I showed you my true projection, the separation had already begun... It is now nearing its end. I am the embodiment of fate, Lord Administrator; I never do anything I’m not sure of.

Listen carefully.

Do not resist. Let your consciousness travel to the Divine Kingdom that Avalon and I share."

At Lady Spider’s invitation, Murphy took a deep breath and calmed his mind.

Within the perception of the Primitive Shrine in his hand, his mind, just as during his previous two audiences with Divine Spirits, was guided into a space above reality in a state of drifting away from his body. At the same time, one Shadow Elf after another appeared in Shadow Valley.

These were the followers who had arrived in Transylvania following Veylanther. Some had become vampires, some still retained their original appearance. At this moment, all of them had gathered here fully armed, guarding the damaged Avalon Temple from the outside, allowing no one to approach this place, and allowing no interference with Lady Spider’s great undertaking today.
