Chapter 177: Final Battery II

The deafening roar of the mutated chimera echoed violently through the cavernous subterranean chamber sending small showers of dust and loose rock tumbling from the ceiling.

The beast slowly pushed itself up from the pool of toxic sludge. The creature was a grotesque masterpiece of Vaelorian blood magic. Thick matted gray fur covered heavily armored muscle fibers that pulsed with sickly violet veins. The massive lion head snapped its jaws dripping a highly corrosive green acid that sizzled menacingly against the stone floor.

Leon stood at the entrance of the chamber resting his heavy dark blade casually on his shoulder. He analyzed the terrifying monster with cold predatory calculation. The chimera did not possess a refined magical core like a Grandmaster but its sheer raw physical density and corrupted elemental output made it a catastrophic threat.

"That thing is completely unnatural," Nyx muttered stepping forward with her curved cutlasses drawn. The corsair captain looked eager for the violence despite the overwhelming size of the enemy. "It looks like three different nightmares stitched together."

"It is drawing limitless energy directly from the anchor," Valeriana warned checking her glowing compass. She retreated toward the safety of the tunnel entrance. "Its cellular regeneration will be astronomically high. You have to destroy the crystal to sever its power supply."

Seraphina stepped up beside Leon her fierce violet eyes blazing with unyielding warlord determination. The brilliant crimson aura of her Tier One Grandmaster core ignited pushing back the suffocating dampness of the catacombs.

"We fight it together Leon," Seraphina commanded gripping her heavy broadsword with both hands. "I will take the main head. You shatter the anchor."

"Keep the tail occupied," Leon ordered addressing the rest of the strike team. "That serpentine head looks like it spits a neurotoxin. Do not let it flank us."

The chimera did not wait for them to finalize their tactical plan. The massive beast lunged forward covering the distance with terrifying explosive speed. The ground shook violently under its heavy clawed paws.

"Scatter!" Leon roared diving to the right.

The chimera crashed heavily into the spot they had just occupied shattering the solid stone floor into a massive crater. The beast instantly pivoted snapping its massive jaws toward Seraphina.

The silver haired warlord did not flinch. She swung her broadsword in a devastating upward arc unleashing a concentrated wave of searing volcanic fire. The crimson flames violently collided with the chimera’s face momentarily blinding the creature and incinerating the corrosive acid dripping from its fangs.

The beast shrieked in agony blindly thrashing its massive horned goat head toward her.

Before the heavy horns could connect Beatrice and Elara moved in perfect synchronization.

The Ice Queen raised her hands sending a dense freezing torrent of frost mana directly at the beast’s front legs. Thick layers of solid glacial ice aggressively formed around the creature’s massive paws temporarily rooting it to the ground.

Elara followed up instantly hurling three concentrated spheres of blistering fire directly at the chimera’s vulnerable flank. The fiery explosions shattered the thick gray fur exposing the raw pulsing muscle beneath.

The monster roared in pure furious rage violently shattering the ice binding its legs with a single flex of its monstrous strength. It whipped its thick serpentine tail around aiming a lethal venomous strike directly at the two servants.

Isolde Vane intervened in a blur of vibrant green motion. The Emerald Knight leaped gracefully over the sweeping tail bringing her glowing rapier down in a flawless piercing thrust. The blade sank deeply into the serpentine head pinning the thrashing snake to the stone floor.

Captain Nyx capitalized on the opening darting forward like a shadow. Her twin cutlasses flashed in the dim light delivering a rapid flurry of devastating slashes that completely severed the venomous tail from the chimera’s main body.

The beast wailed in agonizing pain dark toxic blood spraying wildly across the chamber.

Leon used the chaotic distraction to sprint directly toward the raised stone dais. The colossal violet obelisk pulsed blindingly casting long ominous shadows across the cavern.

The chimera realized its primary power source was being threatened. The monster aggressively abandoned its fight with the women spinning its massive body around to intercept the towering warlord.

The beast lunged opening its jaws to unleash a devastating torrent of corrosive green acid.

Leon did not attempt to dodge. He activated his Aura Hardening pushing a massive surge of dense kinetic energy to the surface of his skin. He braced himself taking the toxic blast head on.

The highly corrosive acid violently splashed against his invisible kinetic barrier hissing and smoking as it aggressively tried to eat through his magical defenses. His Endless Vigor burned furiously constantly replenishing his stamina to maintain the shield under the overwhelming chemical assault.

He pushed through the acid rain closing the final distance to the beast.

Leon channeled a massive surge of Kinetic Weight into his heavy dark blade turning the blunt steel into an impossibly dense weapon of pure destruction. He swung the weapon in a brutal sweeping arc aiming directly for the chimera’s front knee.

The catastrophic impact generated a deafening concussive shockwave. The beast’s heavily armored leg violently snapped with a sickening crunch dropping the massive monster down onto its side.

"Now Seraphina!" Leon shouted stepping back to clear the path.

The silver haired warlord vaulted off a nearby broken pillar launching herself high into the air. She poured every single drop of her Tier One power into her broadsword turning the steel into a blazing meteor of pure crimson heat.

She descended with flawless lethal grace driving the blazing blade directly through the top of the chimera’s skull.

The intense volcanic fire instantly incinerated the creature’s brain violently erupting out through its eyes and jaws. The massive beast let out one final gargling shriek before collapsing heavily onto the stone floor a lifeless burning carcass.

The chamber fell into a heavy echoing silence broken only by the crackling of the burning monster.

Leon stood near the raised dais breathing heavily as he wiped a streak of dark soot from his striking face. The strike team had functioned with terrifying flawless perfection. They were a unified force of nature capable of dismantling any nightmare the capital could throw at them.

He turned his intense midnight eyes toward the towering violet obelisk. The final anchor pulsed with a frantic erratic rhythm clearly destabilized by the sudden death of its guardian.

"It is time to pull the plug," Leon murmured stepping up onto the stone dais.

The final battery was ready to be smashed and the path to the Emperor’s throne room was about to be blown wide open.
