Chapter 686 - 460: Little Ningning Wants to Go to the Bathroom

Chen Yuan walked out of the detention center with a spring in his step. On his way out, he told the captain not to see him off, shaking his hand and thanking him profusely.

The sun was bright, and the secluded street beneath the plane trees was dappled with sunlight.

A gentle breeze blew past.

But Chen Yuan’s mood was even lighter than the breeze.

The discussion had run about ten minutes over schedule. When Chen Yuan returned to the car, Pei Youwen was on the phone handling business, while the driver was getting drowsy from the wait.

Seeing him approach, the driver instantly perked up.

"Looks like the talk went well," Pei Youwen said with a shrug, hanging up his phone.

"How did you know?"

"My dear young master, just look at that smile. The corners of your mouth haven’t dipped once the entire walk over."

Chen Yuan froze for a second before quickly suppressing his smile.

’He really had been a little too obvious.’

You couldn’t blame Chen Yuan for wearing his heart on his sleeve. A major concern of his had just been resolved with surprising ease. Not only that, his future mother-in-law’s attitude was far better than he’d imagined; she was even willing to stand in his corner.

How could he not be ecstatic about such a wonderful surprise?

’If he had known it would be like this, he would have come to see Jiangg Ruxue ages ago.’

In his happiness, Chen Yuan’s opinion of his mother-in-law improved immensely. Even all the terrible things she had done before no longer seemed so detestable.

Just now, Jiangg Ruxue had said she had a plan. For now, however, they couldn’t risk tipping their hand and antagonizing Ningning. Once this whole affair was over, the family would sit down and discuss things together.

They would have a formal, serious discussion about the feasibility of both sisters marrying Chen Yuan.

When the time came, she would do her utmost to persuade Jiangg Ning.

It would be for the best if Jiangg Ning agreed. If she didn’t, Jiangg Ruxue would take responsibility and already had a plan to deal with it.

Seeing how confident she was, Chen Yuan felt encouraged himself and secretly clenched his fist.

However, their meeting had to be kept secret from the two sisters.

Chen Yuan suppressed his joy and composed his features. He couldn’t let the sisters see through him when he got back; after all, both Ningning and Yaoyao were the types to have an exceptionally sharp sixth sense.

If they asked why he was so worked up, it would be difficult to fob them off with an excuse.

"So, what’s the plan? I head out, you go back to Linzhou for the project meeting tomorrow, and we’ll meet then?" Pei Youwen asked, pulling out his phone and scrolling through a file.

"Sounds good. You keep a close eye on things in Linzhou. If any problems come up, you can video call me directly. I’ll keep an eye on the work group chat," Chen Yuan nodded.

"Then take me to the airport," Pei Youwen said, patting the driver’s seatback. "Pick up the Chairman at eight o’clock sharp tomorrow morning. We’re on a tight schedule with a heavy workload. The sooner we get this project underway, the easier it’ll be for everyone."

"No need. A little after seven is fine. No reason to make the team wait for me."

With the arrangements made, it was time to take Pei to the airport for his flight to Linzhou.

Pei Youwen truly lived up to his role as a competent right-hand man, shouldering the vast majority of the work. Without him, Chen Yuan would never have been able to free up so much time to spend with the two sisters, running back and forth between the two cities.

It suddenly occurred to Chen Yuan that his leave of absence from school was about to expire. He needed to go back and get it extended. ’Exams are in a little over a month, and I haven’t studied a thing... How long has it been since I’ve even thought about any of that?’

"Sir, the transfer paperwork has all been processed. If you need, we can arrange for a vehicle to take you, accompanied by a nurse, just to make sure there are no mishaps on the way."

Chen Yuan returned to the hospital.

He had originally planned to stay out a little longer to avoid arousing the sisters’ suspicion—but this feeling of sneaking around was just too weird.

After getting the instructions from the nurse, Chen Yuan took the completed transfer paperwork and rode the elevator back to the hospital room.

As he walked down the hallway, before he even reached the room, his steps were still light and his face was beaming with delight.

"I’m back, my two wives—"

Chen Yuan excitedly pushed open the door, intending to surprise his beloved big wife and little wife. But when he walked in... four or five young women turned to look at him in unison.

All eyes were on him, each gaze holding a different emotion.

Chen Yuan’s smile instantly froze on his face. A moment later, the corner of his eye twitched.

Lawyer Gu and a short-haired girl he recognized from the family banquet were sitting by the bed, their heads turned to the side to look at him. Wan was sitting on the other bed.

At that moment, Chen Yuan had the strong urge to find a hole to crawl into. He turned his head away, his cheeks flushing beet red, and started to silently walk back out of the room.

"Where do you think you’re going...?" Jiangg Yao laughed in exasperation. "Get back here," she said, her tone resigned.

"Lawyer Gu... Wan, when did you guys get here?" Chen Yuan asked, forcing a calm expression and steeling himself.

"We’ve been here for a while."

"Just got here."

The two gave different answers.

While Wan didn’t have much of a reaction, Lawyer Gu shot him a distinctly unfriendly look.

’She probably took issue with his flippant entrance.’

"Lawyer Gu is here to discuss company matters with me," Jiangg Ning explained softly. "Wan heard Yaoyao was injured and flew in from Lanjing. She has to catch a flight back soon."

"I was just telling Wan she shouldn’t go back. It’s such a hassle flying back and forth. Stay the night and keep me company. Yaoyao will even pay for your hotel, okay, Wan?"
