My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 672 - 452: Car Accident
The items taken from the company wouldn’t fetch much money, even if they could be sold.
Some of the electronics, like printers and computers, could probably be offloaded quickly on the secondhand market. But for the desks, chairs, and decorative plants, the moving costs alone would eat up a significant portion of their value, let alone turning a profit.
It wasn’t so much about the money as it was about venting their frustration.
It was simply the helpless act of long-suffering corporate drones after being backstabbed by an unscrupulous capitalist.
Now, someone was offering a solution.
The beleaguered employees were naturally willing to cooperate. At the request of their original work group chat, many of them began returning the items they had taken.
The once-empty offices of the Meiruxue Company gradually began to return to their original state.
Of course, with no one overseeing the cleanup, the already messy environment only grew worse. The once-gleaming floors were now covered in so many overlapping footprints that their original color was unrecognizable.
Jiangg Yao had expected to be tired, but not *this* tired. Still, she gritted her teeth and got through the entire day without a single word of complaint.
It was enough to make her older sister see her in a new light.
By evening, the gloomy sky had grown even darker. The air was thick with the smell of dampness—the unmistakable signs of a coming storm.
"I’m taking a break. My back is killing me." Jiangg Yao lay down on her side on the sofa and gave her sister a little wave.
"Okay, you get some rest. We’ll head home as soon as we’re done here."
Seeing Yaoyao completely exhausted, Jiangg Ning couldn’t help but feel her heart ache for her.
Yaoyao had been pampered since she was a child; the family had never let her do any heavy lifting. But today, she was helping move furniture and take inventory, without a moment’s rest. She’d only even taken half an hour for lunch.
Jiangg Ning herself could barely stand the work. She had originally wanted to send Yaoyao home to wait.
But Yaoyao had refused, insisting on staying to help.
"Yeah, I know."
She let out a weary sigh, shifted her position on the sofa, and picked up her phone to text Chen Yuan.
...
’Looks like it’s going to rain.’
Chen Yuan had rushed to Linzhou that morning without even having time for breakfast. He’d spent the entire day in meetings, dealing with a backlog of miscellaneous tasks and handing things off to Pei.
After sitting for so many hours, even his tailbone ached.
He had hurried back from Linzhou that evening, and as he approached Mingzhu City, the car was just entering the suburbs.
Gazing at the sky, which looked as if it were shrouded by a thin gray film, Chen Yuan drew his attention back inside the car.
"Slow down a bit. I need to make a call," he told the driver.
"Understood."
Chen Yuan had tried calling earlier at noon, but Jiang Zhengfeng hadn’t picked up. Half an hour later, he’d received a text saying Jiang Zhengfeng was in a very important meeting and would call back that evening.
’Now that it was evening, he’d probably gotten busy and forgotten.’
Since Chen Yuan had something to discuss, his only option was to call again.
The call connected, and a familiar voice came through from the other end.
"Dad," Chen Yuan began, getting straight to the point. "Do you have a minute? Right now."
"I just got out of a meeting," came the somewhat weary reply. "Yuan, what is it? Go ahead."
"I’ve withdrawn some funds from the Bauhinia Company account. I had something important to take care of and wanted to give you a heads-up."
There was a pause on the other end of the line.
"That’s a minor thing," Jiang Zhengfeng’s voice was relaxed and casual. "I gave you that company, so of course you have full authority over it. I wouldn’t even mind if you sold it. Compared to the company’s monetary value, I was actually more interested in two other things. First, for you to have more contact with Mo’s daughter and Pei. And second, to give you a preliminary understanding of the business world and its rules. That kind of knowledge is a form of wealth that can’t be measured in simple dollars."
"Mm..." Chen Yuan nodded, his gaze dropping. He hesitated for a moment. "I have something else to tell you. It’s about my personal life."
"Go on."
"I’ve mentioned my two friends from the Jiangg Family to you before. I’ve now promised one of them that we’ll get engaged first... Dad, for something like this, should you be the one to make the formal proposal to her family, or should I ask Mr. Chen and my mom to do it?"
"A formal proposal?" On the other end of the line, Jiang Zhengfeng sounded stunned.
"Yes. She’s a bit older than me, so I don’t feel right making her wait. I want to settle the engagement first, just to make things official—"
But before Chen Yuan could finish, Jiang Zhengfeng cut in, his voice grave.
"Marriage is a monumental decision. A man has only two great matters in his life that require the utmost caution: his career and his marriage... Have you told your adoptive parents yet?"
"Not yet. But they met Jiangg Ning and Jiangg Yao when they visited Lanjing, and they were very pleased with them," he answered.
The implication in Chen Yuan’s words was that his adoptive parents would most likely support his decision.
In truth, he was only saying that; Chen Yuan wasn’t actually sure if they would support him or not.
After all, he was still very young to be getting engaged, and he still had his studies to focus on.
From a parent’s perspective, it was certainly a matter that warranted careful consideration.
Jiang Zhengfeng was silent for a moment.
Then, he spoke again. "Didn’t you say before that you were going to marry both of them? Have you changed your mind so quickly?"
"I haven’t changed my mind. It’s just that their situations don’t have to be handled at the same time. It might be better to keep things separate."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhengfeng didn’t press the matter.
Instead, he spoke in a serious, heartfelt tone. "This is a major issue. I need to discuss it with your adoptive parents. Furthermore, I need to meet this young woman and formally get to know her family... An engagement isn’t something you two can decide on a whim. You’re an adult now, with your own career, so logically you should have your own reasons for doing things.
"However, Yuan, don’t think me harsh for saying this.
"You meet so many people in your life. Someone you find amazing and brilliant now might seem ordinary later on when your perspective and feelings change."
