Chapter 246 162: New Year's First Day (3)
“Fine, don’t go then. I’ll be there anyway,” Jiangg Ning answered quietly, rubbing her thigh. “At least now you understand how hard it is for me.”
“More than understand. This experience is something I’ll remember for a whole year. Looks like I’ll have to find an excuse to get out of the family gathering next year, too.”
“Oh, great. So in the end, it all falls on me.”
“Sis~ Aren’t you tired?”
“I’m used to it. These kinds of social obligations are unavoidable. After you get married, won’t you have to face Chen Yuan’s family? Or maybe I’ll be the one to face them.”
“Now that you mention it, you’re right,” Jiangg Yao nodded thoughtfully. “I’ve never thought about that before. I always figured marriage was just between two people, and had nothing to do with anyone else.”
“Just the two of you against the world?”
“Exactly.”
“That’s not possible in the real world. If two people could truly ignore everyone else, that would be nothing but a fantasy.”
With that, Jiangg Ning poured the steeped tea into a porcelain cup. Parting her lips, she blew gently on the rising steam before taking a small sip.
Jiangg Yao fell silent for a moment, then suddenly stood up.
“Whatever, I’ll worry about the future when it gets here. Anyway, I’m going to my room to call my Little Master~”
“Heh.” Jiangg Ning paid her no mind.
Jiangg Yao bounced happily over to the foot of the stairs, then turned back, studying her sister with a curious glint in her eye. After a moment, she called out, “Hey?”
“What is it?”
“Ning, why do you never fight me over the video calls?”
“Is that… something we’re supposed to fight over?”
Jiangg Ning tilted her head, unable to comprehend what her sister meant by that.
“Don’t you miss Chen Yuan? It’s been so many days since we saw him after our trip.”
“I do miss him. Of course, I do.”
“Oh, I get it,” Jiangg Yao said, arching an eyebrow as if she’d made a grand discovery. “Your feelings for him aren’t as deep as mine. You’re okay without video calls. Simply put, you don’t love him as much as I do.”
“Then you win again.”
“Damn right I do!”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Jiangg Yao. We just have different ways of loving, that’s all. Love isn’t just one thing. Even if I’m not stuck to Chen Yuan’s side every moment of the day, I still have him in my heart, and he has me in his. The bond between two people doesn’t just fade away because of a little distance. Do you get that?”
“What’s all this weird, philosophical nonsense? Love is about possessing each other, isn’t it? That stuff you’re talking about is just flaky.”
“Just admit you don’t get it.” Jiangg Ning waved a hand, unwilling to say more. The meaning was clear: she wanted Jiangg Yao to hurry up and go upstairs.
The TAP, TAP, TAP of footsteps on the stairs faded into the distance.
Jiangg Yao went upstairs and back to her bedroom.
Her intention was to gloat, and she had actually been hoping Jiangg Ning would try to fight her for the call. That would have put her mind at ease. But instead, Ningning had given her an answer like that.
It left Jiangg Yao feeling deeply unsettled.
‘That kind of feeling doesn’t exist… Keep lying to yourself, you stupid sister!’
Clothes fell to the floor, only to be picked up again.
Her exquisitely curvaceous figure was revealed.
Jiangg Yao crumpled the clothes in her hands and whispered, “Once I’ve won, we’ll see how anxious you get. Let’s see if you can still keep up this act then!”
Next, Jiangg Yao picked out and put on a pale pink slip nightgown. She sat at her vanity, combing her hair and waiting quietly for the video call to connect.
BEEP—
“Little Master!”
Jiangg Yao, whose face had been full of dejection just moments before, instantly lit up with a brilliant smile the moment she saw Chen Yuan. She drew out the two words in a long, melodious lilt.
Her sensual collarbones were on full display, and the way she propped her hands on her knees, pushing her chest forward, was inexplicably alluring.
Chen Yuan was taking a sip of water and almost sprayed it all over the place.
“What’s wrong? Did you choke?”
“I’m fine…”
“I missed you so, so much. I’m bored to death just sitting at home, *whimper*…”
