My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister

Chapter 229 154: Encountering the Future Mother-in-Law, Jiangg Ruxue's Heart Unexpectedly Flutters for a Young Man (6)

Chen Yuan quickly shrank back. He was genuinely a bit scared of Jiangg Ruxue. This mother-in-law of his was quite fierce. Just earlier at dinner, he had been dreading the thought of going to Mingzhu City to formally meet her side of the family… The imagined scene was enough to make his skin crawl.

“Hey, waiter! Where’s my drink? I want it cold!”

As she turned, her profile came into clear view. She was banging her cutlery on the table, making quite a racket.

Chen Yuan confirmed that it was, indeed, his mother-in-law. But seeing the drunken flush on her face, he couldn’t help but wonder…

‘How much has she had to drink?’

He hadn’t heard back from Jiangg Yao, so he had no idea why Jiangg Ruxue was in Lanjing City all by herself, or what she was even doing here. ‘I should just wait and see what happens,’ Chen Yuan thought. ‘It’s best if she doesn’t see me. I’ll just leave as soon as I can.’

‘But what if something happens to her?’

Chen Yuan’s brow furrowed. He was supposed to be enjoying a nice dinner, but now he’d run into this headache. He really, truly wanted to pretend he hadn’t seen a thing.

He wasn’t the only one in the restaurant watching Jiangg Ruxue; quite a few others had their eyes on her as well.

Most of them, however, were giving her mocking and lecherous looks.

Time ticked by, second by second. On the wall, an old Calder clock ticked and tocked.

Chen Yuan grew more anxious waiting for his driver, all while watching Jiangg Ruxue down one drink after another.

Watching her, the waiter began to break out in a sweat.

“Miss… Miss?”

Just as Chen Yuan was fretting, a dramatic scene unfolded, almost as if it had been scripted. Jiangg Ruxue slumped forward, drowsily laying her head on her arms on the table.

A well-dressed, affluent-looking man in a suit walked over.

He loosened his tie, his leather shoes squeaking as he walked at a measured pace to the seat across from Jiangg Ruxue.

“Hello, miss… What happened to make you drink so much?”

The man spoke earnestly. He wasn’t what you’d call handsome; in fact, he was rather ugly. He had to be at least forty and gave off a heavy, greasy vibe.

Jiangg Ruxue lifted her head, gazing at him in a daze as she brushed a strand of hair from her forehead.

“Who’re you?”

“Hah. Who I am isn’t important. You just need to tell me what’s troubling you. It’s not a bad thing to vent, so why do you need to know my name? Hm?”

Chen Yuan broke out in goosebumps. He couldn’t hear everything clearly, but the few muffled words he did catch were enough to make him sick to his stomach.

“Get lost! I don’t know you.”

“??? Fine, if you don’t want to talk, don’t! What are you cursing at me for?”

“I didn’t curse.”

“You!” The man’s face flushed red, then went pale. It took a visible effort for him to calm down. “I can see you’re in a bad mood. Fine, I’ll let it slide. How about we have a drink together?”

With that, he waved the waiter over.

Jiangg Ruxue shot up from her seat and walked toward another table, her disgust obvious.

But as she was leaving, the man, with surprising speed, snatched her purse.

“Forgetting something?”

“I never said I didn’t want it. Give it back!”

“Of course I’ll give it back to you. But since I helped you, it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t at least have a drink with me to say thank you, would it?” the man said, batting his eyes.

The sheer sleaze radiating from the man almost made Chen Yuan vomit on the spot.

‘I don’t get it,’ Chen Yuan thought. ‘Dude, are you filming a TV show or something? Where did you even get those lines?’

The cringe was so intense his toes were curling in his shoes.

Jiangg Ruxue reached to grab her purse, but the man lifted it high, dangling the expensive leather bag in the air.

Chen Yuan couldn’t take this harassment for another second.

He shot to his feet, strode over, and angrily snatched the purse. Then he looked down at the white-collar man, who was only about five-foot-seven.

“Are you fucking stupid?”

The moment the words left his mouth, half the restaurant turned to stare.

But what the frowning Chen Yuan failed to see was that the instant he spoke, the corners of Jiangg Ruxue’s lips curled into a smirk before quickly falling again.

She subtly pressed her legs together, the emotion in her eyes imperceptible.

“How… It’s you?”

She covered her mouth in shock, the surprised expression on her flushed cheeks a masterful performance.

‘He took the bait, this little guy,’ Jiangg Ruxue thought.
