My Milf Tamer System

Chapter 163: The Studio With A Parking Lot View

  • Next Chapter

"She’ll be back," Elena said. The marker capped. Her voice carrying the certainty of a woman who’d learned that leaving was sometimes how you found your way home.

"How do you know?"

"Because I left Richard. And I came here. To this building. To this apartment. To you." She sat back down. Picked up her tea. Sipped. "The leaving isn’t the ending. The leaving is how you find out if you want to come back. And if she wants to come back, she will. And if she doesn’t, then she was never really here to begin with."

*Elena left Richard. Elena came to this building. Elena sat on this couch and decided to stay. She knows the difference between leaving to end something and leaving to find something. Yuki is leaving to find something. Elena recognizes the shape of it because she’s lived inside that shape herself.*

The apartment was quiet. The tea was cold. The calendar glowed on the wall with seven colors and one open circle.

Somewhere across town, Yuki sat in a studio apartment on the floor, drinking tea from her mother’s set, looking at a photo of her son and a parking lot and a sky that was mostly gray but sometimes blue.

She was alone. For the first time in her life. Alone by choice.

And the choosing was everything.

*Friday will be empty. The lavender block will sit there unclaimed. Elena will probably fill it with something strategic. Diana will send a briefing. Sarah will text about tomatoes. Chelsea will suggest a terrible movie. Victoria will assign more Foucault.*

*But tonight: silence. Green tea. The woman beside me who buys the right kind of comfort without being asked. And the knowledge that somewhere, a woman I love is learning to be herself for the first time in forty-four years.*

*That’s not loss. That’s the bravest kind of love there is. The kind that lets go.*

May 19th. Lucas’s Apartment. 6:34 PM.

The knock was different. Not Elena’s two-tap. Not Diana’s single authoritative strike. Not Sarah’s tentative shuffle. This was a fist hitting wood with the kind of rhythm that said the person on the other side had been clenching that fist since they got in their car and drove across town looking for someone to use it on.

Lucas opened the door.

**Marcus Tanaka, First Full Appearance:** Twenty-one years old. Five foot ten, wiry, the build of someone who’d inherited his mother’s frame and his father’s bone structure and turned both into something sharp and restless. Dark hair buzzed short on the sides, longer on top, sticking up in every direction because he’d been running his hands through it for an hour. Dark eyes, Yuki’s eyes, red-rimmed, the particular redness of someone who’d been angry long enough to cycle through it and land somewhere worse. He wore a Westbridge University hoodie, gray, the sleeves shoved up to his elbows, jeans, sneakers untied. His face was a twenty-one-year-old’s face trying to process information that belonged to a forty-year-old’s life. His jaw was clenched so tight the muscle jumped under his ear.

He looked like his mother. The same cheekbones. The same way his eyes narrowed when he was thinking too hard about something that hurt.

"My dad says my mom is leaving." Marcus didn’t wait to be invited in. He pushed past Lucas into the apartment, his untied sneakers catching on the threshold. "That she’s been seeing someone. That she moved out. That she’s living in some studio apartment near the community college because she needs to ’find herself’ and he’s sitting at the kitchen table wearing his shoes because apparently that’s what you do when your wife tells you she’s in love with another man."

The apartment felt smaller with Marcus in it. Marcus, who’d been his best friend since seventh grade. Marcus, who’d let him crash on his couch when his lease fell through. Marcus, whose mother’s perfume he could still smell on his own shirt sometimes because he’d been holding her against a kitchen counter three weeks ago.

"Yes." Lucas didn’t sit. Didn’t move toward the kitchen. Didn’t offer drinks or small talk or the kind of deflection that would make this easier. He stood in his own living room and said yes because Marcus deserved the truth and the truth deserved to land without padding.

Marcus turned. The motion too fast. His face cycling through something Lucas couldn’t track because he’d never seen Marcus look like this. Not when they’d failed their driving tests. Not when Marcus’s girlfriend cheated sophomore year. Not when Kenji had his health scare in 2023 and Marcus had sat in the hospital corridor shaking for four hours.

"Is it you."

The question sat between them. Heavy. Specific. Not a question about the affair. A question about identity. Who. Who took his mother. Who took his parents’ marriage. Who was the reason his father was sitting at a kitchen table wearing shoes.

"Yes."

Marcus punched him.

The fist connected with Lucas’s jaw. Left side. The angle was slightly off, Marcus’s inexperience showing in the placement, but the force was real. Twenty-one years of friendship and betrayal and the particular rage of a son defending a family that was already broken packed into knuckles that had never thrown a real punch in their life.

Lucas stumbled. His shoulder hit the wall. The apartment tilted. His jaw screaming, the bone singing with the kind of pain that started at impact and spread outward like ink in water. He tasted copper. Bit his tongue. The blood pooling at the corner of his mouth.

He didn’t dodge. He’d seen it coming. He could have dodged. Stamina 82. Vitality 74. Reflexes enhanced by a System that made him faster than any normal twenty-two-year-old. He could have stepped left, caught Marcus’s arm, redirected the force. He’d done it to better fighters than Marcus Tanaka.

He stood there and took it because Marcus deserved to throw it.

Marcus was shaking. His fist still clenched. His chest heaving. The anger cycling into something else, something that looked from the inside like fury but from the outside looked like grief wearing fury’s clothes.

"She’s my MOTHER." His voice cracked on the word. The same crack Yuki’s voice had on the phone. The genetic inheritance of breaking. "She’s my fucking mother, Lucas. She made me breakfast every morning. She sat with me when I had nightmares. She taught me to fold paper cranes when I was six and I still have one in my desk drawer and you, you were, my best friend was, my mother, you were sleeping with my MOTHER."

"I know."

"Don’t say ’I know.’ Don’t you dare say ’I know’ like that makes it better. Like acknowledging it fixes something. Like you being sorry means anything right now." Marcus’s hands were shaking. His whole body shaking. The hoodie too big on him, swallowing his frame. He looked younger than twenty-one. He looked seventeen. He looked like the kid who’d shown Lucas how to unlock the secret level in Halo 3 and laughed when Lucas fell off the same cliff six times in a row.
