My Milf Tamer System
Chapter 149: No Target Detected, The Roommate’s Brunch
*She’s funny. Dry. The kind of funny that doesn’t announce itself. No setup. No punchline delivery. Just observations that happened to be hilarious, said in a voice that suggested she didn’t care whether you laughed or not.*
They walked to the brunch place. Three blocks. Sarah in the middle, Lucas on one side, Chelsea on the other. Chelsea’s stride shorter, her pace faster to keep up. She didn’t complain. Just walked faster. The pace of a short woman who’d spent her life adjusting to a world built for taller people.
The restaurant served eggs benedict for fourteen dollars and called it brunch. Mismatched chairs. Edison bulbs. A chalkboard menu with handwriting that was trying too hard. Chelsea sat in the chair facing the door because she’d been a retail manager long enough to always know where the exits were.
"So," Chelsea said, opening the menu. "You’re twenty-two."
"I’m twenty-two."
"You’re dating a woman who’s forty-two."
"I’m dating Elena."
"And you’re also sleeping with Sarah."
"I’m here with Sarah."
"That’s not a denial." She ordered coffee. Black. No sugar. The order of someone who’d given up on enjoying caffeine and just used it as a delivery system. "I’m not judging. I’m observing. Sarah’s my friend. My first real friend in two years. I want to make sure she’s not being an idiot."
"I’m not being an idiot," Sarah said.
"You’re sleeping with a twenty-two-year-old who has a forty-two-year-old girlfriend. That’s at least adjacent to idiot."
"Adjacent isn’t the same as actual."
"It’s close enough to see actual from the window."
*She’s protective of Sarah. Not jealous. Not curious about Lucas specifically. Curious about whether her friend is making a mistake. That’s different from the way everyone else has looked at Lucas. No assessment of him as a target. No measuring him for potential. Just a woman checking whether her friend’s boyfriend is going to hurt her.*
Brunch arrived. Eggs benedict for Chelsea. Avocado toast for Sarah. Pancakes for Lucas. Chelsea ate like someone who’d been managing a retail store all week and this was the first meal she hadn’t eaten standing up. Fast. Focused. Not savoring. Fueling.
"I’ve been divorced for two years," she said between bites. "No kids. No trauma. Just a marriage that died of neglect. Like a houseplant. We forgot to water it and one day we looked up and it was dead and neither of us could remember when it stopped being alive."
"I’m sorry."
"Don’t be. It was mutual. He was nice. I was nice. Nice people who forgot to be anything else." She ate a bite of eggs. "Last guy I went out with talked about cryptocurrency for forty-five minutes. On the first date. While I was eating pad thai. He didn’t ask me a single question. Not one. Forty-five minutes about blockchain while I slurped noodles and thought about death."
"That sounds terrible."
"It was. The pad thai was good though. Small victories." She waved for a refill. "Before him, there was a guy who cried about his mother. On the first date. At a Taco Bell. While eating a Crunchwrap Supreme. I can’t make this up."
"The dating scene sounds."
"Like a landfill fire? Yes. It is. I’ve decided the universe is punishing me for something I did in a past life. Probably I was a warlord. The dating karma is proportional."
Lucas laughed. Genuinely. Unexpectedly. Not the polite laugh he gave Victoria’s academic jokes. Not the surprised laugh Aurora’s comments pulled from him. A real laugh. The kind that came from somewhere beneath performance and landed in the part of him that was just a guy sitting in a restaurant eating pancakes.
Chelsea grinned. The first full grin he’d seen from her. It transformed her face. The tired hazel eyes lit up. The round cheeks lifting. The drugstore glasses catching the light. For one second, she wasn’t the exhausted retail manager. She was a woman who was funny and knew it and had just been given the satisfaction of making someone genuinely laugh.
"See? I’m funny. Sarah never mentions that part."
"She mentions other parts."
"She mentions the parts that matter to her. The listening. The seeing. The whatever magic thing you do that made her go from invisible to enrolled in community college." Chelsea looked at him. Direct. The hazel eyes steady. "I don’t get it. I’m not going to pretend I do. You’re young. You’re dating multiple women. That’s weird. But she’s happy. She’s actually happy. Not performing happy. Not ’please validate me’ happy. Just happy. I haven’t seen her happy in two years."
"I didn’t do that. She did that."
"You were the catalyst. Catalysts don’t get to take credit but they don’t get to dodge responsibility either." She ate another bite. "I’m watching you. Not in a creepy way. In a ’this is my friend and I will end you if you hurt her’ way."
"Fair."
"Good. Now tell me about the forty-two-year-old. Because that’s the part I really want to know about."

⚠️ She is not a target.

"I have no framework for
this, Master. She’s not a
target. She’s not an ally.
She’s just a person who
likes you and wants to
make sure her friend is safe.
I don’t know what to do
with people who aren’t
targets. I’m learning."

*No target. No suppressed desire spike. No hidden trauma. No archetype. The Milf Radar scanned Chelsea Morrison and found a woman eating eggs benedict and making jokes about cryptocurrency. The System has no framework for normal. Aurora has no framework for someone who isn’t broken, lonely, or suppressed. She’s just a person. A regular, tired, funny, divorced person who eats fast and drinks coffee black and makes her friend laugh.*
*That’s the most terrifying thing I’ve encountered in three years of this.*
Sarah watched the exchange. Her face cycling through relief and something warmer. Relief because Chelsea and Lucas were getting along. Something warmer because two people she cared about were in the same place and it wasn’t falling apart.
"She’s not like the others," Sarah said quietly. For Lucas only. "She’s just. Chelsea."
"I know. The System doesn’t know what to do with her."
"Good. The System shouldn’t get to decide everything."
Brunch lasted ninety minutes. Chelsea told stories about retail hell. The customer who tried to return a used toilet seat. The employee who cried in the break room every Tuesday. The district manager who communicated exclusively in motivational quotes printed on cardstock.
Lucas told her about Marcus Tanaka. His best friend. The one who didn’t know about the harem. The one who would probably punch him when he found out. Chelsea listened. Laughed. Said: "At least your friend will punch you. Mine just stopped calling."
*She’s not lonely the way the others were lonely. She’s not broken. She’s not suppressed. She’s just alone. The alone that happens when your marriage ends and your friends were shared and your life was a building with two people in it and now it’s a building with one. She doesn’t need me. She doesn’t need the System. She needs someone to eat brunch with.*
The check came. Chelsea reached for it. Lucas reached faster. She raised an eyebrow.
"Chivalry?"
"Practicality. You’re a retail manager. I’m dating a woman who runs my life. I can afford fourteen-dollar eggs."
"Fair." She stood. The oversized sweater falling to mid-thigh. The leggings showing the full curve of her legs. "Same time next week?"
She said it to Lucas. Not to Sarah.
"Next week?"
"Brunch. This place. Sunday. I’m free." She grabbed her purse. "Unless that’s weird."
"It’s not weird."
"Good. Because Sarah’s busy next Sunday and I don’t want to eat alone and you’re the only other person I know who likes pancakes."
She walked out. The door chiming behind her. Short. Curvy. The oversized sweater swallowing her frame. The messy bun already coming apart.
Sarah looked at Lucas. Her expression complicated.
"She wants to be your friend," Sarah said. "Just your friend. She’s not interested in the other stuff."
"I know."
"She’s never been interested in the other stuff. Not since her divorce. She’s just. done with complications."
"Good. I could use a friend who isn’t complicated."
"You have Marcus."
"Marcus is going to punch me when he finds out about Yuki."
"Fair point." Sarah kissed his cheek. "Be nice to her. She’s the realest person I know."
*The realest person she knows. A woman who eats fast and talks dry and wears an ex’s sweater and doesn’t need me for anything except pancakes. No target. No archetype. No suppressed desire. Just a woman who’s alone and wants to not be alone for the duration of a brunch.*
*The System doesn’t know what to do with her. Aurora doesn’t know what to do with her. I don’t know what to do with her.*
