My Milf Conqueror System
Chapter 276: The Shadow’s Tail
The paranoia hit me the moment I stepped out of the Mandarin Oriental.
The air outside was hot. Humid. It pressed against my suit the second the doors opened. Car exhaust and sea salt mixed with the faint smell of money and perfume from the lobby. The sun was high and white. It reflected off the glass towers of the Cotai Strip and made me squint. My watch felt heavy on my wrist.
"Overwatch," I murmured, sliding into the backseat of the armored Mercedes. The leather was cool. The tinted windows sealed me in. "Run a full spectrum sweep of the surrounding traffic. I want eyes on every vehicle pulling out of the hotel garage."
The door closed with a solid thud. Soundproof.
"Scanning now," Nia replied. Her voice was crisp in the comms bead. "You have a clean perimeter. Your security detail is in the lead and trail vehicles. Traffic is standard for the mid-afternoon."
I leaned back. Kept my posture loose. Bored. Julian Croft didn’t check mirrors like a trained operative. He let other people do it.
"She didn’t buy it," I said, staring out the tinted window as the convoy merged onto the avenue. The glass was dark. The city moved past in blurs of gold and glass. "Song Mei accepted the capital, but she doesn’t trust the source. She’s going to put the Imperial Shadows on Julian Croft."
The Mercedes rolled forward. Smooth. The engine was quiet.
"If they follow you back to the Outer Harbour, the dual identity is blown," Claire warned. Her voice was tight.
"I’m not going to the Outer Harbour," I said. My voice stayed calm. "Tell the driver to head for the Wynn Macau. I need to establish the Croft penthouse as my primary residence."
The driver acknowledged with a small nod. The convoy navigated the heavy traffic of the Cotai Strip. Horns were distant. Muffled by the armor. I kept my eyes on the rearview mirror, watching the sea of taxis and luxury sedans behind us. Nothing stood out. There were no aggressive tailgaters, no suspicious motorcycles weaving through the lanes. Just traffic. Just people.
But the Vanguard instincts were screaming.
That cold pressure at the base of my skull. The feeling of being watched.
"Nia, access the municipal traffic cameras along our route," I ordered. "Look for a dark gray Audi sedan or a black motorcycle. Something fast, low-profile, and maintaining a consistent three-car distance."
"I’m checking the feeds," Nia said, her keyboard clacking. I could hear it faintly through the line. "Wait. I have a hit. A dark gray Audi A8 pulled out of the Mandarin Oriental garage exactly forty seconds after your convoy. It’s currently two cars back, matching your speed perfectly."
My jaw didn’t move. My hands stayed loose on my knee.
"Run the plates," I said.
"Plates are registered to a shell corporation in Hong Kong," Nia reported. "It’s a ghost car. You have a tail, Julian."
The Imperial Shadow. She was tracking me to see where the billionaire went when the meetings were over. If I tried to lose her using evasive driving maneuvers, it would instantly flag me as a trained operative. Billionaires didn’t know how to execute J-turns or lose a tail in traffic. They called security. They called lawyers.
I had to lose her using Julian Croft’s resources.
The Audi stayed two cars back. I could see the dark shape through the tint. It didn’t get closer. It didn’t fall back. Perfect discipline.
"Claire, contact the Wynn Macau concierge," I instructed, my voice calm. "Tell them Mr. Croft is arriving in ten minutes. I want the VIP underground entrance cleared, and I want my private security contractors to establish a hard perimeter around the elevator banks."
"Done," Claire said.
I watched the buildings slide past. The Wynn’s gold facade was getting closer.
"Nia, I need a decoy," I continued. "Contact the luxury car rental service we used to secure the Rolls-Royce. Have them dispatch an identical armored Mercedes to the Wynn’s underground garage immediately. Same make, same model, same tinted windows."
The plan was simple. Boring. Expensive. Exactly what Julian would do.
"The decoy is en route," Nia confirmed. "It will arrive at the Wynn three minutes before you do."
The convoy pulled into the massive, subterranean parking garage of the Wynn Macau. The air down here was cool and smelled like concrete and exhaust. Fluorescent lights buzzed overhead. The VIP entrance was cordoned off by velvet ropes and flanked by my heavily armed private contractors. They stood still. Hands near their jackets.
The gray Audi A8 slipped into the garage a few seconds later, parking discreetly in the shadows near the exit ramp. I didn’t look at it.
I stepped out of the Mercedes, ignoring the Audi completely. The heat from the garage hit me. It smelled like oil. I walked with the slow, entitled stride of Julian Croft, flanked by my security detail, and stepped into the private elevator. The doors were brushed steel. They closed silently.
"I’m in the elevator," I murmured. "Execute the switch."
"The decoy Mercedes is pulling into the VIP lane now," Nia reported. "Your security contractors are loading a man matching your physical build into the backseat. He’s wearing a similar gray suit."
The elevator started to rise. The numbers ticked up. 1. 2. 3.
My reflection in the steel looked bored. Unbothered.
"The decoy convoy is moving," Claire said. "They’re exiting the garage, heading north toward the old city."
"Is the Shadow following?" I asked. My voice didn’t change.
There was a tense, five-second pause. I could hear my own breathing.
"The Audi is moving," Nia confirmed, relief flooding her voice. "She took the bait. She’s tailing the decoy convoy."
I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.
The elevator doors opened.
I stepped out of the elevator and into the sprawling, opulent penthouse suite of the Wynn Macau. The air in here was cold. It smelled like citrus and expensive carpet. The floors were marble. The windows showed the entire Cotai Strip. Gold light poured in.
The digital and physical firewalls were holding, but the margin for error was shrinking rapidly.
The cold war was turning into a high-wire act, and I was operating without a net.
One wrong step and Song Mei would see the wire.
