Chapter 102: Chapter 94: Water Monkey Captured Alive, the Lu Family is Attacked

Beneath the Canglan River

Night spilled over the Canglan River like ink.

The river was a sunken black, except for when the moon chanced to break through the clouds.

Then, it would glitter with myriad, ice-cold silver scales, only to be swallowed once more by the flowing darkness.

Beneath the surface was another world, one utterly devoid of sound.

It was gloomy and turbid, the current carrying years of silt and a deep chill as it slowly churned.

A long whip, soaked in dark Demon Blood, was like the malevolent thought of a viper.

It pierced through the water, lashing viciously at the depths of a certain phantom’s Spiritual Sense.

Under the invisible goading of the whip’s shadow, the Water Monkey swam rapidly toward the two Ironclad Ships.

Its body was as slick as an eel in the water, moving almost without a sound.

Only its scarlet eyes, set within a jagged skull, gleamed in the absolute darkness with a light of pure malice.

Its hatred for humanity had long since seeped beneath each of its armor-like scales.

It had to kill. Kill every human in its sight, every one of them radiating living warmth.

And finally, it would kill the whip-wielder, the one driving it, the one who exuded an aura it despised.

Not a single one could be left alive.

The Water Monkey’s Spiritual Sense was extremely sharp; it could clearly perceive it.

Of the two ironclad behemoths, the one on the left radiated a faint yet dangerous aura that made its scales prickle and stand on end.

The aura came from a human, a human it instinctively wanted to avoid.

Thus, in a flash, its simple and savage mind made a choice.

It would lunge for the ship on the right, dozens of meters away—the prey ship whose aura was much cleaner.

The steel outline of the ship’s hull was now visible above it—cold and hard.

The Water Monkey’s long, hook-like claws spread slightly, a slick fluid seeping from the gaps in its Scale Armor.

It arched its back, its leg muscles coiled with Mountain-Breaking power.

It prepared to leap up and tear open the first warm throat with its fangs.

"CLANG—!"

A gong sounded.

The sound was deep and heavy, yet it carried a sharp, piercing quality that stabbed straight into the depths of the soul.

It ignored the resistance of the river, like an invisible awl.

It bored viciously into its cochlea!

The Water Monkey convulsed, its coiled-up, ready-to-spring posture instantly freezing rigid.

It was the [Monkey Gong]!

It was the echo of fear for its "King"—a fear that originated from the very source of its bloodline, branded into the depths of its Demon Marrow!

Although what remained of its intellect screamed that the gong’s sound was a fake, a pathetic imitation, its demonic body betrayed its will.

Every bone ached, and every inch of muscle trembled.

This was the crushing pressure of a higher Tier, an absolute obedience carved into its very heritage.

Compared to the fear awakened by the gong, the pain from the whip’s shadow seemed utterly insignificant.

"Ghhh..."

A low hiss, mixed with endless resentment and unwillingness.

It was squeezed from between its serrated teeth, transforming into a string of broken bubbles that rose to the surface.

Its demonic body defied its lust for slaughter. Driven by the incessant and urging demonic sound, it forcibly twisted around, carving a murky trail through the water.

It swam toward the Ironclad Ship it feared most, the one it least wanted to approach.

"SPLASH!"

The river’s surface suddenly exploded!

A drenched, black silhouette, wreathed in a thick stench and a shower of spray, shot into the air, then fell as heavily as a meteorite.

Its feet and claws collided with the steel deck, letting out a dull "THUD."

The entire ship seemed to tremble slightly from the impact.

The lights instantly focused on it.

The Water Patrol Officers on deck finally got a clear look at the true face of the Demon Fiend that had terrorized the Canglan River for months and slaughtered more than four hundred people.

It was a little more than half the height of a man, its back hunched.

Its entire body was covered in hard, blackish-green Scale Armor that resembled the scales of both a fish and a lizard.

It glistened with a damp, cold light under the lamps.

Its limbs were abnormally long and slender, with joints that bent backward.

They ended in hook-like claws that glinted coldly.

Its head was like an ape’s but covered in fine scales.

It had a protruding snout, and two rows of interlocking, saw-like teeth were exposed.

Viscous, blood-streaked saliva dripped from its mouth onto the deck.

It actually made a faint "TSSS" sound, corroding small pits into the metal.

"D-Demon Fiend!"

"It’s on board!"

Cries of alarm mixed with the sound of rifle bolts being drawn.

Though their faces were pale and their knuckles white from the force, the well-trained Water Patrol Officers still gripped their rifles tightly.

The muzzles of their guns trembled as they aimed at the monster.

However, no one dared to be the first to pull the trigger.

They weren’t sure if their conventional Firearms could actually harm it.

They were even less sure if firing would only provoke it into a frenzy.

The crowd automatically parted, creating a path.

Chen Xuan walked out from the back, his expression impassive, the Monkey Gong in his hand.

The sound of his footsteps on the deck was steady and clear.

It was as if the ferocious beast just a few feet away was nothing more than an inconsequential piece of cargo.

He stopped three paces from the Water Monkey, a distance well within its pouncing range.

The Water Monkey whipped around, its scarlet eyes locking onto Chen Xuan.

Or rather, onto the Copper Gong in his hand—the one that filled it with terror and rage.

A threatening growl, like the rasp of a broken bellows, rumbled in its throat. "HOH... HOH..."

It suddenly bared its massive jaws, revealing its horrifying, serrated gums as thick saliva dripped down in long strands.

Chen Xuan’s gaze didn’t waver in the slightest; he was as calm as if he were facing a mere rock.

He wasn’t looking at the Water Monkey. His gaze seemed to be fixed on the dark surface of the river farther away.

But the thumb of his right hand, which rested on the hilt of the sword at his waist, softly pushed open the clasp on the sharkskin scabbard.

"SHIIING—!"

The clear ring of the blade drawing drowned out the river wind!

A flash of brilliant steel suddenly exploded under the deck’s gas lamps.

It was like a bolt of cold lightning tearing through the dark clouds of the night sky.

It wasn’t a single flash of the blade, but four afterimages that almost blended into one.
