Chapter 79: In a Rush
Chapter 79: Chapter 79: In a Rush
Zelir was having a hard time choosing between the two Talent Skills.
The first, Spring Overload, was without a doubt an incredibly powerful buffing skill.
It could vastly increase his power for a short period, allowing him to overwhelm opponents with a pure torrent of Magic.
It was incredibly useful, whether for an opening burst of damage or as a trump card to turn the tide in a critical moment.
Most importantly, Spring Overload had no side effects. After using it, all he needed was a good night’s sleep to fully recover.
Even an Overclocking Potion, which had a similar effect, would leave him in a weakened state for a while.
’Where could you find such a considerate skill these days?’
And the second one, Magic Contract...
Its effect was more straightforward, and it tempted Zelir greatly.
It immediately increased his Strength, Agility, and Body by an amount equivalent to 25% of his Spirit Attribute.
Based on Zelir’s current 71 points in Spirit, if he chose Magic Contract, his Strength, Agility, and Body would each immediately be enhanced by 18 points.
Afterward, for every 4 points his Spirit increased, his Strength, Agility, and Body would each gain another attribute point from this effect.
Even more absurdly, Magic Contract had an additional effect: for every 4 points he gained in Spirit, he would receive 2 extra attribute points to allocate to Strength, Agility, or Body.
This essentially created a strong, interconnected link between his Spirit Attribute and his physical attributes.
By simply increasing his Spirit, his physical prowess would rise in tandem.
A Mage’s greatest weakness was instantly remedied.
Besides, there were all sorts of interdependencies between Strength, Agility, and Body, and they could be further enhanced with the extra attribute points.
’These are two Talent Skills so powerful it’s hard to choose...’
Zelir let out a soft sigh.
’If only I could have them both.’
He could activate his overload to bombard enemies with Magic from afar, or roll up his sleeves and fight them hand-to-hand up close.
But that was just a fantasy.
In any case, he had already firmly reached the threshold of a Junior Mage. The next stage of his advancement was just around the corner.
Now, he just needed one last push!
Zelir sat up and resumed practicing his Magic.
Spring Guide, Magic Energy Storage.
A Water Blade, as thin as a cicada’s wing, began to extend from Zelir’s palm, then condensed into a solid form.
It looked like a stationary, sky-blue blade, but that was an illusion created by highly compressed Magic Power. If anyone dared to touch even the slightest part of it, their flesh would be instantly severed.
Water of Cutting!
With a flick of his wrist, Zelir sent the Water Blade sweeping out horizontally. He aimed for the great boulder he had previously used for Arcane Missile practice and sliced right through it!
SWISH!
Unlike Arcane Missile, which created a massive explosion, Water of Cutting was silent, but its destructive power was still terrifying.
The Water Blade sliced horizontally through the boulder, flashing past in an instant. The cutting effect was incredibly violent.
However, because Zelir didn’t continue channeling Magic Power to sustain it, the Water of Cutting dissipated, splashing onto the ground with a loud SPLASH.
The power of that strike was something a Junior Warrior could never hope to achieve. Perhaps it could even rival a full-power blow from a Middle Level Warrior.
Zelir rested for a moment, then resumed practicing Water of Cutting.
The soft SWISH SWISH SWISH was incessant as Zelir sliced the boulder from every angle. Like a block of tofu, it was carved into many smaller pieces that tumbled to the ground.
Through continuous casting, Zelir came to understand the characteristics of Water of Cutting.
Although it and the Flame Breath Skill were both Elemental Magic, their Magic Power consumption was different.
After all, the Element of Flame inherently possessed considerable damage potential. The Magic Power required for the Flame Breath Skill was mostly spent on guiding the surrounding Elements.
Water of Cutting was different. The Water Element itself had no inherent damaging properties. This Magic required the Mage to continuously infuse a large amount of Magic Power throughout the process. While guiding the Water Element, they also had to use Magic Power to apply high-intensity compression to it.
This undoubtedly consumed far more Magic Power.
However, its terrifying cutting power was something the Flame Breath Skill couldn’t compare to.
With each flash of a Water Blade, the rock that had been Zelir’s companion for over a month was finally sliced to bits, its pieces rolling one by one into the river.
It had lived a full life, in a way.
Besides Water of Cutting, Zelir had also analyzed and mastered all the other Magic that Riley had cast that day.
Now, Zelir’s skill list was practically blossoming with variety.
Level Two Magic: Fireball Skill, Wind Blade Technique, Lighting Skill, Water Ball Skill, Heavy Pressure Technique, Ice Cone Skill, Evil Words Skill, Rock Bullet Skill, Stone Wall Skill, Vortex Skill, Vine Entanglement, Frost Technique, Cloud Mist Skill.
Level Three Magic: Flame Breath Skill, Arcane Missile, Water of Cutting.
Level Four Magic: Healing Skill, Extraction Skill, Fog Flowing Gauze.
Such a wide variety of Magic had saved Zelir at least several hundred Gold Coins!
’Technique Celestial Calculation really was the right choice...’
Zelir shook his head in amazement.
Moreover, during his training, he had noticed many other hidden benefits that came with Technique Celestial Calculation.
It didn’t just analyze Magic; it also greatly increased his speed of learning it.
An ordinary Mage learning the Heavy Pressure Technique, as Zelir once had, could never have mastered it with a single glance.
They would need to spend several days at a minimum, using their Spiritual Power to continuously memorize and trace the Spell Structure, to slowly stabilize it within their sea of consciousness.
But Zelir was different. He only had to sweep his Spiritual Power over a Scroll, and Technique Celestial Calculation would present the clearest possible structure, without the slightest error.
If a Scroll contained a damaged or incomplete structure, Technique Celestial Calculation could even complete it automatically.
The difference between the two was self-evident, saving him an immeasurable amount of time.
"Hooo..."
His practice finished, Zelir let out a long breath.
The last wisp of Magic Power dissipated from his fingertips as he sat on the grass, supporting himself with his hands behind him.
The sun was slowly sinking in the west, and the sky looked like a canvas soaked in oil paint.
The sunset’s glow spilled through the gaps in the clouds, plating the river’s surface in a warm, orange-red hue. The rippling current shimmered, like shattered silk.
Zelir closed his eyes, letting the gentle breeze softly caress his cheeks and lift the hair from his forehead.
Ever since arriving on the Candia Continent, he had been constantly busy—leveling up, earning money, fighting monsters, practicing new Magic. It felt as if something was always pushing him forward.
But at this moment, watching the gently swaying waterweeds and the migratory birds swooping in the distance, Zelir’s heart suddenly grew calm.
He sat by the river for a long time before reluctantly getting to his feet.
Instead of taking his usual path, Zelir chose an unfamiliar trail, strolling along at a slow, leisurely pace.
Autumn had arrived, and the weather was cool and refreshing—the most comfortable temperature imaginable.
A thick layer of fallen leaves had accumulated in the birch forest, making a soft RUSTLING sound when stepped on.
The sound of frequent dog barks drifted from a distant farmstead, along with a mother’s drawn-out voice calling for her child. Beside the field ridges, boundless waves of golden wheat rose and fell, surging layer upon layer into the distance.
