Chapter 443: Chapter 357: The Uncounterable Existence

After getting the hang of Coronal Waymark, Zelir turned his attention to Water Prison.

It also had a two-layered Spell Structure, which couldn’t compare to the three layers of the Flame Thunder Spear.

The first layer’s purpose was to consume Magic Power to create a large amount of water. It would also draw in the surrounding Water Element, gathering it together.

The second layer’s purpose was to compress and shape the gathered water, imbuing it with greater impact force using Magic Power.

However, what surprised Zelir was the process of casting Water Prison...

It was incredibly Mana-efficient!

As the Spell Structure activated, the water in the nearby creek was drawn forth.

It obeyed Zelir’s will, gradually gathering into a giant sphere.

Zelir targeted the Water Prison on a large boulder by the bank.

When he had practiced with the Flame Thunder Spear, Zelir had always blasted mountainsides directly and wouldn’t have bothered with a mere rock.

That was why it had survived until now.

Now, however, it was about to come in handy.

The currents of water swept forward, completely enveloping the boulder that stood over two meters tall.

Everything was in place.

Zelir aimed his palm at the boulder and slowly closed his hand.

And then...

He clenched his fist!

In that instant, it was as if a switch had been flipped.

Inside the Water Prison, countless high-pressure jets of water suddenly erupted!

"SZZT! SHH-SHH-SHH! WHOOSH!"

A rapid series of sharp, cutting impacts could be heard from within the watery prison.

To Zelir’s senses, the inside of the Water Prison was no different from a meat grinder.

The compressed jets of water were incredibly destructive; each burst was like the slash of a sword or the chop of a blade.

The boulder couldn’t scream, so all that could be heard was the sound of rushing water.

But if a living Demon had been trapped inside, its tormented screams would have been deafening.

The agony would be no less than death by a thousand cuts.

「A moment later.」

He opened his palm, and the spherical prison of water dissipated.

The water splashed onto the ground, slowly seeping into the earth.

The spot where the boulder had stood was now empty.

Countless tiny fragments were scattered about; the largest piece was no bigger than a quail’s egg.

After assessing its power, Zelir gave a slight nod.

’Hmm...’

’Not bad.’

’A squishy Demon would probably die instantly from a barrage like that.’

’Against a tougher one, it could still weaken it considerably.’

Water Magic was never known for its attack power anyway.

To be able to achieve this level of destruction was already quite impressive.

Its strength lay in its versatility. Flowing water is formless and can take on any shape.

Moreover, Water Magic also had some support capabilities. A skill like [Purifying Stream] could almost be used in place of a Healing Skill.

Its defensive capabilities were also quite strong.

Compared to Coronal Waymark’s Mana Consumption of nearly 20%, Water Prison used less than 15%.

In terms of Mana consumption, Water Prison could be considered a highly economical spell.

However, Zelir was well aware that this was due to environmental factors.

It was a bright, sunny day with blazing sunlight.

Plus, there just so happened to be a creek with an ample supply of water.

Casting spells in this environment, whether it was the Light Magic spell Coronal Waymark or the Water Magic spell Water Prison, would result in a definite boost to their power and a corresponding reduction in Mana Consumption.

This was one of the unique aspects of being an Elemental Mage.

The environment could influence their combat effectiveness to a significant degree.

In a desert, for example, a Mage who specialized in Water Element Magic would be rendered almost helpless, their combat power plummeting.

By the same token, in an oceanic environment, a Water Element Mage could unleash power far beyond their normal capabilities.

Just like... right now.

Zelir brandished Night Peace and began experimenting with the next spell.

A Level Six Magic spell: Waterfall!

Since there was already a creek nearby, he didn’t need to expend Magic Power to generate water, which saved a great deal of Mana.

Guided by the Spell Structure, a massive amount of creek water was swept high into the air, forming a wide, thick wall of water in the sky!

"BOOM!"

Dozens of tons of water came crashing down!

The sight was like a monstrous tidal wave sweeping in.

Strictly speaking, Waterfall wasn’t a purely offensive spell.

Its ability to break through defenses wasn’t very strong; it relied entirely on the impact force of the falling water.

It would have no problem crushing an ordinary person or a common Demon, but against a foe with high Defense Power, it wouldn’t be of much use.

However, it could still be used to block damage from wide-area attacks, such as a sea of fire or a volley of arrows.

Such a huge commotion stunned the two Sengu Town patrol guards observing from a distance.

’So he doesn’t just make explosions... He can control light and water so impressively, too.’

Zelir also experimented with two new defensive spells.

Water Curtain and Shield of Radiance.

Zelir now had four Level Five Defense Magic spells at his disposal. His skill list was nothing short of extravagant.

They were Ring of Resistance, Blazing Flame Shield, Water Curtain, and Shield of Radiance.

In terms of all-purpose defense, Ring of Resistance was undoubtedly the strongest.

A solid Magic Barrier with an added repulsive property to knock attackers away—it gave one an incredible sense of security!

The other three—Blazing Flame Shield, Water Curtain, and Shield of Radiance—were all roughly on the same level, a tier weaker than Ring of Resistance.

But as always, the Elemental Magic System was all about counters.

When facing an attack of a specific Attribute, choosing the correct defensive spell would yield twice the effect for half the effort.
