607 Testing her limits
Once the battle was over, Kelan and Julian busied themselves picking up anything of value while Yelena, Zak and Chris caught their breath after each having drunk a healing potion of legendary grade.
Yelena was watching them, and she finally got up and went to join Julian to ask him, as it had been bothering her since the beginning of this dungeon: “Professor Julian, this dungeon is definitely the hardest I’ve looted since I started looting the purple dungeons… Iris is usually careful about which ones she chooses so she had to pick this one so I could use my powers, right?”
Julian nodded and told her honestly: “I was the one who asked her to find a much harder dungeon… Listen Yelena, if I want to be able to help you, I need to watch you use this power, but so far you haven’t needed to so I can’t guess where the problem lies…”
Yelena then told him, trusting him, because Julian after all just wanted to help her: “I don’t need to be in a dangerous situation to draw on the energy of the Cradle of Magic… The times I’ve used this power have been because I was frustrated at not being able to defeat my opponents on my own, but perhaps it’s better to try it here, as there’s no longer any danger, rather than having to deal with the summoned creatures in addition to my possible loss of control, what do you say?”
Julian smiled at her and said: “I think you’re very brave and very responsible… Let’s go and talk about it with Iris, Helena and Caleb. You’re right it will be much better to do it here.”
He then added: “Let me just seal the room, in case the dungeon boss decides to send his summoned creatures over here, that way we won’t be disturbed.”
Yelena nodded and as Julian headed towards the tunnel that would lead them to the dungeon boss’s room, he conjured up 2 water talismans and a wind talisman to seal the tunnel with ice, which should be enough to slow down the summoned creatures if they ever decide to attack them here.
When he had finished and turned around, he saw that they were all waiting for him in the middle of the room, so he joined them there.
They all made up their minds quickly and while Zak and Chris were instructed to stay at the entrance to the room with Kelan to protect them thanks to the power of his chains if something went wrong, Iris, Helena and Caleb positioned themselves all around Yelena so that they could act quickly if necessary and Julian had to stay close to Caleb to observe Yelena.
When they were all ready, Yelena closed her eyes and circulated her chakra through her body to form the pentagram that would link her with the unlimited source of energy that was the Cradle of Magic.
A white light immediately enveloped her, much more sparkling than the one she had used to disintegrate Julian’s wind blades earlier and as Yelena seemed to be able to contain this power Julian then said to her: “Now let’s test your limits, I’m going to send you more and more powerful ice spikes, and just try to disintegrate them with your chakra like you did with my wind blades earlier, okay?”
Yelena, who was aware that it was her chance to be able to learn to use this power at will nodded, and so the experiment began.
At first everything went smoothly, the ice spikes that Julian sent to her were disintegrated without much effort from her, but when he increased their power by using Talismans to create them directly, Yelena started to feel a pressure from them and the chakra she was using thanks to the Cradle of Magic started to become unstable.
Julian then sent a warning message to everyone thanks to the communication stone as he could see that the flow coming from the pentagram that Yelena had formed with her multiple energy reserves started to increase, and also some small waves appeared on her white aura which showed that Yelena was starting to lose control over this energy.
Yelena’s eyes had turned completely white and when Julian sent another spike of ice, this time it pierced her chakra shield and as Yelena felt the ice spike begin to sink into the flesh of her left shoulder, a ray of white light immediately shot out annihilating Julian’s ice spike and making a hole in the wall so huge it looked like another tunnel.
Julian had not expected such power and he paled when he saw the damage the beam of light had done to the wall of the dungeon, and suddenly Yelena started screaming and fell to her knees, holding her head in her hands as she felt as if her skull was going to explode.
Julian then saw just like everyone else that the small waves that had appeared on her white aura grew bigger and bigger and then her white aura start to spread at a speed that they hadn’t anticipated.
Miguel joined them immediately when he heard Iris panic voice in his head and he told them right away: “Use your force shield, we must contain this energy first before it spread further.”
Caleb then shouted: “Kelan, get the hell out of there, take them in safety.”
Julian then heaved a sigh of relief and he said to Miguel who was just next to him: “Yelena can control this power, she has proved it just before losing control… Can you make sure she hears my voice, I will guide her.”
Miguel then asked him: “How are you going to help her, even I don’t know how?”
Julian then said to him: “Her head ache is coming from the fact that she tries to push back and shut down this flow of energy that is coming from the Cradle of Magic, if she let this energy flooding freely in her body accepting it and not being afraid of it, then she will be able to control it.”
