Swoosh!

Damian’s figure shot through the night sky above the capital like a beam of dark light, moving so quickly that the people below barely had time to look up before he had already crossed several streets. The sudden pressure accompanying his passage caused windows to tremble and loose banners hanging from the upper levels of buildings to whip violently in the wind.

Several demons stopped in the middle of their conversations and turned toward the direction he was heading, their expressions changing when they realized he was flying straight toward the crimson cube seal surrounding the Velmora Capital Garrison.

The garrison was one of the most heavily guarded military locations in the capital, and ever since Damian announced the execution of Amon and Duke Darbin, the situation within its walls had become increasingly unstable.

Amon’s soldiers had already been moved away after he submitted to Damian’s authority, leaving behind the remnants of Duke Darbin’s once formidable military force. Out of the Duke’s forty four legions, only ten had openly sworn allegiance to the prince. The remaining soldiers had refused to make a final decision, choosing instead to remain within the garrison while waiting for the Council of Elders or some other higher authority to intervene and somehow overturn the execution.

Boom!

His fist crashed into the crimson lockdown seal surrounding the garrison, sending a violent ripple through the enormous cube of energy. The entire barrier trembled as though a mountain had been dropped onto it, and the soldiers stationed near the outer walls immediately turned toward the disturbance. Their eyes widened when they saw Damian floating outside the barrier with one hand pressed firmly against its surface. A thin crack had already begun spreading outward from beneath his fist.

Inside the garrison, alarm bells began ringing as soldiers rushed toward the walls. Thousands of demons raised their heads toward the sky, confusion quickly turning into disbelief when they recognized the pale figure standing outside the seal.

"His Majesty?"

"Why is the prince here?"

"Prepare yourselves!"

The orders came from different directions as officers hurried to bring their men under control, but Damian paid none of them any attention. His black eyes narrowed as he slowly raised his other arm, and dark purple demonic aura erupted from his body with enough force to make the surrounding air distort.

"BREAK!"

BOOOOOOM!

His fist slammed forward again, and the upper section of the barrier violently caved inward. The seal bent deeply beneath the force, demonstrating the terrifying elasticity of the defensive formation, but it still refused to shatter. Crimson light surged through the entire structure as the formation desperately attempted to redistribute the damage.

Damian slowly pulled back his arm and he shot backward. Before anyone inside the garrison could understand what he intended to do, Rin’s small figure descended from the sky.

Swoosh!

Purple smoke exploded around the fox spirit, expanding outward in a violent storm until his tiny body vanished completely within it. A second later, the smoke was torn apart by an enormous creature descending from above.

Rin’s massive seven tailed form emerged from the darkness.

The gigantic fox spirit landed outside the garrison with enough force to shake the surrounding streets. His body was so colossal that his shoulders rose above several of the military towers, while his seven enormous tails swayed behind him like living pillars of purple light. Damian and Loth stood calmly on top of Rin’s head, looking down at the soldiers below as though they were observing insects trapped inside a glass container.

Rin raised one of his massive claws.

KRASH!

The claw descended and the crimson barrier finally shattered.

Millions of fragments of spiritual light scattered through the air like shattered glass before dissolving into nothingness. The garrison was suddenly exposed to the sky, and thousands of soldiers instinctively reached for their weapons.

Panic spread rapidly through the ranks.

Some soldiers rushed toward the weapon racks while others stared upward in complete confusion. Officers shouted orders, but their voices were quickly drowned beneath the roar of the soldiers trying to understand why their prince had personally broken into a military facility that technically belonged to his own realm.

Damian stood silently on Rin’s head and surveyed the crowd below. His expression remained completely calm, but his eyes moved across the garrison, taking note of the officers, the formations and the clusters of soldiers who had already begun gathering around their respective commanders.

"Only one demigod left," Abel’s voice whispered from the black fur scarf resting around Damian’s neck.

Damian gave a slow nod. He could sense it as well.

Four of the six demigods who had previously served under Duke Darbin’s command had already been executed during the political purge that followed the assassination attempt.

Swoosh!

A figure suddenly appeared in the air before Damian.

The demon was dressed in black military armor and wore a strip of cloth across his eyes. His face remained calm despite the chaos unfolding beneath him, and the soldiers immediately became quieter when they saw him appear.

"General!"

Several voices called out from below but he demon did not respond to them. He simply faced Damian and cupped his fists.

"Your Majesty, why are you here?" he asked calmly.

Tens of thousands of soldiers stared at Damian with cautious eyes. No one dared make the first move because they still did not understand what was happening. Even the soldiers who had refused to submit understood the difference between political defiance and openly attacking the prince of their realm.

Damian did not answer immediately. His gaze swept across the garrison one final time before returning to the demigod.

"I was informed that you and your men refused to submit to this God and instead chose to remain loyal to a treacherous Duke," Damian said calmly.

The demigod’s expression hardened.

"Our allegiance will forever belong to Duke Darbin and never to a human."

The words caused a ripple of tension to spread through the soldiers below. Some of the demons lowered their weapons slightly, while others exchanged uneasy looks. Even they could sense that their general had just crossed a line that could not easily be walked back from.

The demigod, however, appeared completely unconcerned. He cupped his fists again and gave Damian a polite bow, maintaining the minimum amount of courtesy required when speaking to a prince.

"If that is all, Your Majesty, I will be leaving."

Without hesitation, the demigod turned around and began descending toward the garrison.

Damian’s eyes narrowed.

The next moment, his fist pierced through the demon’s back and the soldiers below froze.

Blegh!

The demigod coughed out a mouthful of blood as a hand suddenly burst through his chest from behind, gripping one of his still beating demonic hearts. His body remained suspended in the air as his eyes widened in disbelief.

Slowly, he turned his head and realized Damian had not moved. He was still standing on Rin’s head several meters away, he was the one who had moved!

"B... But how?"

The general stared between Damian and the arm piercing through his body, his mind unable to immediately comprehend what had happened. It was as though he had flown backward into Damian’s attack.

"Since you have chosen to stand beside that man," Damian hissed, his voice carrying clearly across the entire garrison, "you will share a similar fate."

Buzzz!

White flames suddenly erupted across the demigod’s body and his scream ripped through the sky.

The flames consumed him with terrifying speed, spreading across his armor and skin before swallowing his entire body. Damian withdrew his hand, and the burning corpse fell toward the ground below.

The soldiers rushed toward their general.

"General!"

"General!"

Several officers shot into the air with murderous intent, their demonic aura exploding around them as rage replaced the fear that had paralyzed them moments earlier. Damian watched them approach without even changing his expression.

Hmph!

He snapped his fingers.

Dark purple aura exploded outward from his body and expanded in every direction until it formed a massive square barrier around the entire garrison. The demons attempting to fly away slammed into the wall and were thrown backward, crashing into the ground or nearby structures.

"Rin."

Damian’s voice was quiet, but the giant fox immediately raised his head. Rin opened his enormous mouth and white flames began gathering within his jaws.

The fire rolled violently, growing denser with every passing second until the inside of his mouth resembled a furnace capable of consuming an entire mountain. Loth stood behind Damian with her hands clenched tightly at her sides. Her face had gone pale, and her breathing had become shallow as she stared down at the tens of thousands of soldiers trapped inside the barrier.

She knew what was coming yet she remained silent because she remembered the royal court.

Damian noticed the tension in her expression.

"Discipline is necessary for obedience," he said calmly, his gaze remaining fixed on the garrison below. "Even if a child is raised with all the love in the world, without discipline, that child will eventually become spoiled and become a danger to everyone around them."

Loth slowly turned toward him as Damian’s voice remained disturbingly calm.

"Lin Qui gave you people too much love. He gave his realm freedom, forgiveness and generosity, and what did all of you do when he died? You tore his realm apart. You fought over his possessions. You killed the few people who remained loyal to him and waited for the next prince so you could repeat the same cycle again."

His black eyes shifted toward Loth.

"Velmora is rotten to the core. I’ll change that with a little bloodshed."

The words had barely left his mouth when Damian’s purple barrier tore open across one section of the garrison. Rin exhaled and an endless torrent of Samsara Fox Flames poured through the opening.

The white fire descended like a river.

The first soldiers struck by the flames did not even have time to scream before their bodies disappeared beneath the blaze. The fire continued spreading through the military formations, consuming tents, weapons and demons as panic finally erupted throughout the entire garrison.

Thousands began screaming. Some attempted to run deeper into the compound while others desperately attacked the barrier, trying to break through Damian’s demonic aura.

A few fell to their knees and begged but none of it mattered.

Damian slowly stretched out his hand and Loth immediately understood what he wanted and handed him the elegant Japanese style sword she had collected from the royal armory. The weapon possessed a beautifully decorated fox shaped hilt and a polished blade that reflected the burning flames below.

Damian examined it briefly before he casually tossed it into the inferno. The weapon vanished into the flames and Loth stared at him in silence.

Damian’s lips curled into a cold smile.

"Burn."

For the rest of the day, the capital of Velmora existed beneath an unnatural silence.

Even the streets surrounding the palace became quiet. Shopkeepers closed their doors early. Families pulled their children indoors. Soldiers who had nothing to do with Duke Darbin’s army stood at their posts without speaking. Mothers held their children tightly whenever another scream echoed through the distance.

The screams never stopped.

By the time the flames finally began dying down, more than fifty thousand demons had been burned to death within the ruins of the garrison.

From that day onward, the massacre became known as the Samsara Genocide. The name spread rapidly through the streets of Velmora, then beyond the borders of the realm as merchants, spies, refugees and terrified soldiers carried the story into neighboring territories.
