Chapter 1079: The Truth of the Misunderstanding

“Is this the Beast Taming Sect’s way of treating guests?” Mr. Bai’s pleasant voice echoed through heaven and earth.

There was no trace of anger, but it made the sect-protecting azure dragon feel a great threat, glaring furiously.

Out of its defensive instincts, the azure dragon was about to act. At this critical moment, a figure suddenly rose from the ground.

“Aaah!”

Accompanied by a cry of pain, a small figure flew straight toward Mr. Bai.

The tense atmosphere was instantly broken.

Countless gazes from heaven and earth converged on that tiny figure.

“It’s Xu Ke…” Mr. Bai smiled.

Xu Ke scratched the back of his head, feeling uneasy.

But he still followed what Li Fan had taught him and asked shyly: “Mr. Bai, why are you here? Are you here to see me?”

Before Mr. Bai could answer, a blue light flashed from the horizon in an instant, blocking between him and Xu Ke.

“Brother Lu Ya!” Seeing old acquaintances one after another, Xu Ke was very excited.

Mr. Bai looked at Lu Ya, whose face was full of vigilance, a trace of helplessness flashing in his eyes: “Lu Ya, long time no see.”

Lu Ya said: “What do you want?”

His tone was cold, full of wariness.

Mr. Bai did not mind and said slowly: “I have no malicious intent on this trip. I came to the Beast Taming Sect for something and need their help.”

Hearing this, Lu Ya hesitated.

At that moment, an elderly voice rang out: “A distant guest is a guest. It is our Beast Taming Sect that has been remiss in hospitality.”

An elder with white hair and white eyebrows appeared in an instant.

“Great Elder?” Lu Ya was startled.

Emperor Sanmo nodded in response. Then he looked at Mr. Bai: “Honored guest, please follow me. If there is anything the Beast Taming Sect can help with, we will certainly cooperate.”

This very polite attitude left Lu Ya puzzled and hard to accept.

But he still respected his teacher and elders, so he did not refute it outright.

“In that case, I thank you in advance.” As the saying goes, one does not strike a smiling face. Mr. Bai also withdrew the aura he had released.

Following Emperor Sanmo, he vanished from sight.

“Ah? Why did he leave?” Xu Ke had assumed Mr. Bai would take him along, and for a moment, he felt quite annoyed.

“I told you not to get too close to Mr. Bai! And yet you foolishly rushed up the moment you saw him!” Lu Ya gently patted Xu Ke’s head and scolded.

“He is not at all like the person he pretends to be in front of us.” Lu Ya gazed toward the distant Beast Taming Sect, his expression darkening.

“Brother Lu Ya, why exactly do you say that? Mr. Bai is truly a good man!” Xu Ke was puzzled but spoke with utmost seriousness.

“You… Sigh…” Lu Ya let out a long sigh. “Fine, at this point, I will not hide it from you anymore.”

“After Ningyuan City was razed to the ground, under his… “

“Under his command, we called out to the people to save themselves and helped transfer all the wounded to the small broken temple.”

“But that day…”

Lu Ya sank into recollection, his expression somewhat dazed.

“Suddenly, one of the wounded had a flare-up of his injuries and seemed on the verge of collapse. Mr. Bai happened to be absent, and our skills were simply not enough to save him…”

“So we had to split up and search the city for Mr. Bai.”

At this point, Xu Ke suddenly interjected: “Right, I remember now. There was indeed such an incident. Not long after, Brother Lu Ya, your attitude toward Mr. Bai completely changed. What exactly happened?”

Lu Ya took a deep breath: “At that time, I searched everywhere but could not find Mr. Bai. Suddenly, I recalled that when I had been gravely ill before, Mr. Bai had taken me to his home for treatment. I vaguely remembered that there seemed to be a basement in his house.”

“I thought, perhaps he was in the basement at that moment. After some effort, I finally found the entrance to the basement near Mr. Bai’s house. Just as I was about to call out to ask, I faintly caught a whiff of a bloody stench drifting from within. I thought Mr. Bai might be injured, so without a second thought, I rushed in. But what I saw was…”

“What did you see?” Xu Ke was completely captivated by Lu Ya’s description.

“Corpses. The basement was filled with them, all mangled and broken. And he was there, holding a sharp blade, dismembering the corpses and performing some evil ritual. Do you still remember Doggy’s former brothers? The ones whose bodies had been forcibly sewn onto dogs.” Lu Ya asked.

Xu Ke nodded.

“At that time, those few had mysteriously disappeared. I asked Mr. Bai about it, and he said he had not seen any trace of them. But…”

Lu Ya gnashed his teeth: “I clearly saw them among those corpses in the basement!”

“This…” Xu Ke’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Lu Ya continued: “The scene in that basement was like hell itself. Even now, when I recall it, I still feel a chill all over my body. Not only was the bloody stench so thick it was horrifying, but the floor was stained black and red with blood. At the very back of the basement stood an utterly bizarre Faceless Statue!”

“Even though I only glanced at it once, it keeps reappearing in my nightmares. If you had not seen it with your own eyes, you could never imagine just how evil it was!”

“He seemed utterly shocked by my sudden intrusion. But I reacted immediately, fearing he would silence me. Without a word, I scrambled out of the secret chamber, fleeing back to the small temple like a madman, wanting to expose Mr. Bai’s true face. But he had always disguised himself so well! No one believed me!”

Lu Ya let out another long sigh.

“If I stayed by his side any longer, I would surely be in danger of being killed. I had no choice but to flee! Unfortunately, no matter how I pleaded, the only one willing to escape with me was you.”

“Fortunately, we encountered our master on the road and finally settled down in the Beast Taming Sect. But I never imagined he would persist like a vengeful spirit and follow us here.”

Xu Ke looked at Lu Ya’s furrowed brows and felt deeply conflicted.

“Perhaps there is some misunderstanding?” Xu Ke still tried to persuade him.

“Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding could there be?” Lu Ya snorted coldly.

“You have seen him in person now. Facing a Dao Integration realm sect-protecting Azure Dragon without batting an eye. One can imagine just how terrifying his current strength is! To reach such a level in such a short time, aside from exchanging it for the power of that evil sacrifice, I cannot think of any other method!”

“Moreover…”

Lu Ya paused: “I have also investigated that bizarre Faceless Statue.”

“It is the evil god worshipped by the ancient malevolent sect, the Xuantian Sect! The remnants of the Xuantian Sect are enemies that we cultivators must eradicate on sight!”

Xu Ke did not know what the Xuantian Sect was.

But he knew the reason for Mr. Bai’s rapid cultivation progress.

The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he suddenly recalled Li Fan’s admonition that “heaven’s secrets must never be leaked,” so he swallowed them back down.
