My Kingdom Building Done Right!

Chapter 470: The Most Unwelcome Welcome [Part 2]

As Hyacinthe grew closer to the Grimjaw Mountain, he noticed that the security had thickened.

Warriors riding on beasts he had never seen patrolled the city, each of them holding a lantern that illuminated their surroundings.

The Half-Elf’s gave them a curious look.

With just one glance, the leader of the Orion Troupe could tell that they were using candle lanterns. But from what he could see, these lanterns had much stronger light than their counterparts he had seen before.

After all, these special candle lanterns were from the Arcane Store.

Thinking the territory now had multiple residents, albeit some temporary, Leone had been convinced to buy them in bulk. More accurately, he succumbed to the temptation of the in-store sale.

Items bought from the Arcane Store had quality second to none. Not to mention, five thousand of them only cost him 10,000 BP.

That was not all! The candles inside these lanterns could stay lit for an entire month without any problems.

Considering their price, the quality of these lanterns was well above the young chieftain’s expectations.

Leone had also purchased thousands of replacement candles in bulk, more than enough to keep the streets of Aslan City lit for decades to come.

He even asked Daedalus to strategically place a hundred of these lanterns in the districts where the tribes were staying.

Once everything was in place, Daedalus personally lit the lanterns, illuminating the surroundings while surprising the tribes. None of them had noticed it earlier.

In fact, they had no idea how these candle lanterns lit up in the first place!

’At least the guards are doing their jobs,’ Hyacinthe thought as he resumed his journey to the mountain.

When he landed on another roof, he noticed another squirrel there, but he didn’t pay them any mind.

He had already passed through dozens of squirrels. He even wondered why these little creatures, who were supposed to live in a forest, were in a city filled with barbarians.

When he finally reached the walls that separated the city from the fortress of the Aslan Tribe, Hyacinthe carefully observed his surroundings.

The wall was thirty meters tall, and it was also well lit by the lanterns that were on the ramparts.

Ordinary thieves might have problems scaling this wall, but for Hyacinthe, this wasn’t a cause for concern.

"Fly," Hyacinthe chanted as he activated the magical shoes he was wearing.

Soon, his body slowly rose from the ground. However, instead of flying directly over the fortress wall, he actually stuck to the wall as close as possible.

When he finally reached the top, he cautiously glanced to his left and right before making his move.

There were guards stationed on the wall, but Hyacinthe was an expert in infiltration. He knew when the right time was to make his move, and so he timed it for when one of the guards was in the process of yawning.

Using the dark places along the ramparts as cover, the Half-Elf frowned after realizing that the wall he was at right now was simply the outer wall.

This was the same wall that blocked the Monster Stampede back then. The real defenses of the Aslan Tribe were built on the mountain.

Using his magical shoes, Hyacinthe slowly descended until his feet touched the ground.

He then pushed forward as swiftly as he could, reaching the base of the mountain. From there, he planned to fly up and infiltrate the fortress that Oisin was talking about.

But just as he was about to execute his plan, his instinct warned him of something.

He immediately moved to his right side and stuck his body as close to the mountain wall as possible.

A second later, a stone the size of an adult’s fist thudded a meter away from where he stood.

It even bounced a few times before finally coming to a stop.

Hyacinthe looked up to see where the stone came from. However, he couldn’t see anything despite his night vision.

He then thought that it might have just rolled over the mountain due to a gust of wind.

However, just as he was about to resume his infiltration mission, he suddenly sensed something once more.

This time, he moved to his left.

A second stone dropped at the place where he once stood and bounced off the ground before coming to a stop.

This stone was smaller than the first one that fell earlier. Even so, the Half-Elf believed that if that stone actually hit him, he might suffer an injury due to the impact it made on the ground.

’It fell from a high place,’ Hyacinthe thought before looking up once more. But just like earlier, he didn’t know where the stone came from.

Suddenly, Hyacinthe rolled to his right, barely evading another stone that was the size of an adult’s head.

Looking at the stone that had shattered from the impact, the Half-Elf’s expression turned solemn.

The first might have been an accident, the second a coincidence.

But the third?

There was no way he could dismiss it anymore.

And as if to prove him right, he sensed more threats falling from the mountain, forcing him to evade.

The Half-Elf was fast and agile, so evading these stones wasn’t a problem.

Even so, his purpose for coming to Grimjaw Mountain was to infiltrate it and test its defenses.

At first, he thought that the security was really lax. But now, he had to admit that he had underestimated the Aslan Tribe’s defenses.

Without an ounce of hesitation, the Half-Elf retreated.

High above the mountain peak, Boris was quickly depleting its stockpile of stones. Blitz was also taking a few of his ammunition, throwing it at the Half-Elf with a determined look on its face.

Even Astravor now had a serious expression because the three of them had made a bet.

The one who would be able to hit the invader would be called Boss by the other two for a week.

Thoroughly averse to the mere thought of calling Boris his boss, Astravor imbued his stones with Wind Magic to speed and intensify their hit!

In fact, if those stones actually hit Hyacinthe, the Half-Elf might really suffer serious injuries. In the worst-case scenario, he might even die!

’This isn’t exactly the welcome I had hoped for when I traveled here to the Borderlands!’ Hyacinthe cursed under his breath as he kept on evading the attacks that grew in intensity and fatality with each passing second.

Finally, the guards in the ramparts noticed something was wrong because the sound of stones pelting the ground caught their attention.

It was then that it finally happened.

The three, who were having fun throwing rocks from the peak of the mountain, finally ran out of ammunition.

Then, as if realizing what just happened, the three glanced at each other in dismay.

"The first one to catch him wins!" Boris suddenly blurted out this condition and flew down from the mountain peak before Blitz and Astravor could even react.

*Squeak!*

"Come back here, you stupid lizard!"

Blitz and Astravor also flew down the mountain with the intention of beating Boris in capturing the invader.

Seeing all this happen, Leone didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry. The curious Half-Elf might really die after being targeted by the three Guardians of the Aslan Tribe.
