Chapter 239: No Place Is Safe [Part 1]
Troy stood proudly before his warriors.
Years ago, the Darkmane Tribe had mobilized their army to fend off the excursions from the Kingdom of Britannia into the Borderlands.
Now, their army was once again mobilized to deal with an exile from that very same kingdom, a young man who had declared himself as the Great Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe.
"Today, we will be written in the pages of history," Troy said. "Today, we have gathered to overthrow the Chieftain of the Aslan Tribe—someone the Kingdom of Britannia had sent to the Borderlands to sow chaos among our people.
"We will not allow them to have their way. The Borderlands belong to the barbarians. The Borderlands will belong to us until the end of time!"
The crowds cheered, wholeheartedly supporting their chieftain.
"If we leave him alone, he will slowly but surely destroy the order of the tribes and make us fight against our own people." Troy stated. "Such a vile intention cannot be left unchecked. It must be nipped in the bud before it can grow and fester."
The cheering of the crowd intensified, prompting Troy to raise his closed fist in triumph.
"We will not lose!"
""We will not lose!""
"We will win!"
""We will win!""
"Glory to the Darkmane Tribe!"
"""Glory!"""
"""Glory!"""
"""Glory!"""
"Warriors, march forward!" Troy ordered, cueing the warriors to march in formation toward the gates of the city.
Blitz watched all of this closely, but remained calmed and unmoving.
Making a move now would just jeopardize their plan. As such, it simply watched as the warriors of the Darkmane Tribe slowly marched out of the city.
Over sixteen-thousand strong warriors in total.
A number that proved the Darkmane Tribe’s top status in the Borderlands.
Cain, Travis, and Troy’s second son, Byron, followed behind their father while riding on their mounts.
Among the three, the one who stood out the most was Travis. He was the only one not mounted on a warhorse.
Instead, he was riding on a Raptor.
The same Raptor Leone had given him as a farewell gift after his release from the Aslan Tribe.
Troy decided to bring his sons to battle so all of them could see how their army would crush the Aslan Tribe.
He would make an example out of this upstart tribe so no other tribes would dare to look down on them in the future.
Suddenly, Jafar glanced at the place where Blitz was observing them from a distance.
But when he looked there, the squirrel was already gone, making the shaman frown.
’Was I just imagining things?’ Jafar thought.
Although it was subtle, he sensed a faint killing intent coming from that direction, which prompted him to look back.
But seeing nothing there, Jafar eventually shook his head and shifted his attention back to their army’s march toward the northeast of the Borderlands.
According to his rough estimate, it would take them about seven to ten days before they arrive at their destination because they were carrying wagons filled with supplies they needed for the war.
Their march was smooth and steady, and the morale of the warriors were high.
They were itching to fight, and their commanders encouraged such talks and behavior.
Two days later...
Blitz opened its eyes and did a little bit of stretching.
*Squeak!*
The little squirrel patted the cheek of Hassan, who was sleeping peacefully in one of the houses they had infiltrated the night before.
"Is it morning already?" Hassan asked, slowly rising up from the bed.
*Squeak!*
"I know." Hassan nodded before taking out a small bag of mixed nuts from his storage ring. He then placed it on the bed so that Blitz could eat.
The squirrel didn’t hesitate to stuff its mouth with nuts, chewing them happily.
Meanwhile, Hassan took out a loaf of bread and some cheese from his storage ring. He then started eating.
When he was finished, he asked Blitz to communicate with Otto in order to check his current situation.
*Squeak!*
"He just woke up as well?" Hassan smirked. "Well, that’s fine. But he better start preparing soon. Today is the day we make our move."
Blitz nodded, a glint of mischief flashing from the depths of its eyes.
Since they didn’t want to delay the march of the Darkmane Tribe, they had to wait for a few days in order to start their operation.
And now that they had traveled a good distance from their tribe, they wouldn’t be able to hear any news from it anytime soon.
Though, it was more like it would become impossible for anyone who remained in the city to pass any message to Troy and his army.
An hour later, Hassan lightly patted the squirrel’s head with his finger before turning into black mist, merging with its shadow.
"It’s time, Blitz," Hassan said. "Time to turn this place upside down."
*Squeak!*
—————
Troy’s Residence...
One of the servants was trimming the garden as usual when he suddenly sensed something off.
Then, as if to prove that his senses didn’t fail him, he noticed smoke coming out from one of the windows of the chieftain’s manor.
"Fir—gahhh!"
The servant collapsed before he could even ask for help, electrocuted by Blitz, who was scouting the surrounding area.
"Is that the last of them?" Hassan asked as he materialized in the garden, carrying two unconscious servants with both of his hands.
*Squeak!* Blitz nodded.
"Good." Hassan casually tossed the two servants in his grip to the ground.
They were still alive, but they wouldn’t wake up anytime soon.
"Let’s go to the next location."
*Squeak!*
As someone who was used to doing undercover missions, Hassan was completely in his element.
He had raided the chieftain’s residence, taking anything with value within before setting it on fire.
Of course, there were a few magical traps here and there, but he didn’t have trouble disarming them.
After he was done, he and Blitz moved toward the shaman’s house and set it on fire as well.
Compared to Troy’s residence, the shaman’s home was protected by many magical formations.
Hassan didn’t want to waste time disarming all of them, so he simply tossed oil lamps in areas that would easily catch fire.
Soon, dark smoke rose toward the sky, which was now noticed by the barbarians who remained in the city.
"Fire!" one of them shouted while pointing in the distance. "It’s coming from the chieftain’s residence!"
The guards scrambled to the location of the fire, desperate to put it out sooner.
While everyone rushed in that direction, Hassan and Blitz finally entered the unguarded granary, which contained the reserve food supply of the Darkmane Tribe.
Hassan casually stored a sack of grain in his storage ring before tossing oil lamps at the rest.
Since it was a place with highly combustible materials, the flames spread easily.
One by one, Hassan and Blitz targeted the important locations of the Darkmane Tribe. Since the majority of their warriors and shamans were with Troy’s army, no one could stop the two invaders from wreaking havoc within the city of the Darkmane Tribe.
At the very least, Hassan and Blitz still showed a bit of restraint.
They only did arson on the homes that didn’t have any people and let the fire organically spread across the entire city.
When the people headed to the chieftain’s house noticed what was happening, it was already too late.
After spending a few days in the city, the two arsonists had gathered enough resources to complete their mission without fail.
"Find the person responsible for this!" the Guard Captain ordered his subordinate. "Then, if you find him, kill him right away!"
Unfortunately, it was impossible to find the little squirrel, with Hassan in its shadow, jumping from roof to roof and setting fire in places no one expected to burn.
Some of the guards thought they were under attack by another tribe, so they immediately mobilized their fastest riders to leave their city and catch up with their chieftain’s army.
They would need to report the current situation, which had gone way out of their control.
Yet, after traveling for nearly a mile outside the city, all the riders fell from their horses with arrows sticking onto their heads.
Otto carefully lowered his bow and looked at the dead warriors coldly.
He didn’t feel even a shred of guilt for killing these people.
They were currently at war, and they would make sure that Troy and his warriors would have no home to return to after their war had ended.
