The treatment-room door opened into a corridor that could not fit inside Hesh.

Jori Neh saw twelve meters of green floor, six closed doors, and one overturned medicine cart.

The broad plate held the corridor upright on the lower landing.

A woman stood behind the cart with a bone saw in one hand. Ten people waited behind her. Two wore patient gowns. One held a ceiling brace against a door marked surgery.

"Hesh Roof," Jori said. "Current contact through a carried room. State your site."

The woman kept the saw raised.

"Basalt Mile Central Treatment. South corridor."

No Basalt Mile appeared on Hesh's route board.

"Your name?"

"Sani Koro, surgical porter. Tell me who moved the city."

Jori gave her no answer he could not verify.

"We found your corridor inside a metal plate below our occupied roof. Ten standing behind you, plus yourself. Is anyone beyond the six doors?"

"Thirty-two when the floor lifted. We lost three rooms."

The broad plate moved under her.

Sani drove the bone saw between the cart wheels. The handle caught on the door frame and kept eleven people from sliding toward Hesh.

The six-footed body pulled two crushed legs free from the drained tank.

Jori closed no stair door.

He moved the forty-bed tank crew to separate landings and told each group to hold only its own rail.

Sani looked through the impossible corridor at them.

"Are you rescue?"

"We are Hesh."

"Is that yes?"

"It means I can offer this landing. I cannot offer the roof until 604 people answer their own routes."

Sani lowered the saw one hand-width.

"Landing first."

The pipe frame tapped eleven through the walls.

It had counted her group.

Tali received the Hesh contact and sent no general declaration of a found city.

She issued thirty-one local requests.

`Search your own unexplained losses for six-point pressure, red soil, or rooms with wrong depth.`

`Report proof. Do not report agreement.`

North Pump answered before Hesh moved one person.

Nemi stood beside Service Pump Four with her injured hand tied against her chest. The pump had failed twenty-one minutes before Mark Eleven opened at the origin field.

Its maintenance log called the failure a cracked lower seal.

The seal sat intact on Nemi's workbench.

Six round dents marked the concrete beneath the pump.

Each dent matched one leg of Cairo's trapped sample.

Nemi removed the inspection cover with her good hand. A second worker held the light without touching the pump frame.

Red soil filled the motor housing.

The main shaft had not snapped. Someone had cut it into seven equal pieces and stacked them around an empty center.

"Prior crossing verified at North Pump," Nemi said. "It entered before our origin alarm."

"What did it take?" Tali asked.

Nemi checked the room count.

Pump Four had served three wash blocks and one treatment line. Workers had replaced it with hand pressure after the failure.

The old log listed two mechanics inside the service trench.

Both mechanics had checked out six minutes before the seal report.

Their tool belts remained in the trench.

"No missing current worker tied to the failure," Nemi said. "It took the pump shaft, seven tools, and our first explanation."

She marked that explanation false without changing the mechanics' status.

The stacked shaft pieces turned inside the housing.

They pushed one narrow metal leg through the motor cover.

North Pump's earlier crossing had never left.

Nemi backed her crew away and offered the empty wash-block drain as a local stop.

The leg tested concrete around it and refused to enter the drain.

It had already measured that route while people believed the pump was broken.

Dena reported next.

Market Oven Two had lost its rear heat wall during the garden separation. Everyone had blamed the cut culture line.

Current mason Ivo Rell removed three bricks from the cold wall.

No insulation remained behind them.

A folded laundry room occupied the oven depth.

Wet sheets pressed against the opening. A washing machine hung sideways above a floor drain. The drum still turned under power from somewhere outside Dena.

Ivo called for the seventeen market workers who had survived the oven block.

They answered separately from stalls and heat rooms.

No one recognized the laundry.

He cut one sheet from the wall with ordinary scissors.

The fabric carried a service stamp.

`BASALT MILE CENTRAL TREATMENT, LEVEL SIX.`

Sani heard the stamp over Hesh's channel.

"Our laundry is below surgery."

"Any people assigned there?" Ivo asked.

"Night crew has five. Pella Noss runs the floor."

Ivo knocked on the washing-machine door.

No answer came from the drum.

The floor drain knocked back.

He did not repeat the signal.

"Dena verifies a second carried room and one earlier crossing," he said. "Five people possible. No current contact."

The oven wall had not merely lost heat.

It had been replaced by part of a city while Dena crews fought another weapon.

Tali kept the North Pump and Dena findings on separate lines.

Two prior crossings verified.

Hesh might be a third, but its entry time remained unknown.

Far-side contact had reported nine completed.

Six still had no local proof.

Ridge offered a broken radio repeater. Its crushed housing had six dents, but those came from an ordinary mounting bracket installed twelve years earlier.

Ridge withdrew the report.

Tera found red dust in the dead cistern. The metal hook from Chapter 370 had left it during known current contact.

Tera refused to count the hook twice.

Kiln Steps opened a failed hand-pump seal. The crack came from mineral pressure and matched its maintenance record.

No one promoted a normal failure into invasion evidence just to reach nine.

At Hesh, Sani moved the first patient across the carried corridor.

His name was Vik Em. A drain tube entered his left side. Sani held the bag while Jori's landing crew held separate rails.

The broad plate shifted toward the six-footed body.

Jori offered Vik the Hesh landing and no roof destination.

Vik accepted.

He crossed the corridor threshold.

The pipe frame changed Hesh's valve pattern to match his four-step gait.

Jori stopped the landing crew from moving in rhythm with it.

One rail keeper released. Another took weight late. Vik's bed struck the door frame and opened his drain wound.

Sani pressed cloth against his side.

They completed the crossing with fresh blood on Hesh concrete.

One person left the carried room alive.

Ten remained in the corridor. Twenty-one Basalt Mile patients and workers remained beyond current view if Sani's starting count was accurate.

No route record confirmed them.

Rina asked Sani for a detail created after the corridor moved.

Sani looked at the overturned cart.

"The green bottle broke when Vik's bed hit your frame. It smells like burnt mint."

Jori smelled it from Hesh.

The detail crossed both current sides after contact. No archive had supplied it.

Sani was current.

Basalt Mile was still absent.

Cairo searched every open route title, former city name, cultivation label, casualty ledger, private corridor address, and target-settlement file.

No Basalt Mile entry appeared.

Kim's exposed source evidence contained no matching root. The Woman's six corridor histories contained no matching address. Mara's box named no city with that treatment stamp.

Sani watched Jori receive each failure.

"You have maps for cities?"

"Too many," Jori said.

"And ours is not there."

"No."

She turned toward the six closed doors behind her.

Three no longer opened onto rooms. One showed red trench soil through its window. Another showed a vertical road under an unknown sky.

The surgery door remained braced by a current worker named Odel Vim.

Sani counted the visible group again.

Ten after Vik crossed.

"Basalt Mile had eighty-two thousand fourteen people at morning count," she said. "Central Treatment had four hundred seven."

Jori recorded the numbers as her current report, not verified totals.

Sani pointed through the missing laundry door toward Dena's cold oven.

"That is one room. This corridor is seven."

The broad plate raised them another step inside Hesh.

"Where did the frame put the rest of our city?"
