Chapter 348: What Seven Days Own
Ridge Array stopped rotating because North Pump’s rescued people took the recoil.
The ring had turned three degrees after the private garage root entered its foundation bolts. Black Grass from the one-ended road followed the movement toward Ridge’s receiver hall.
Shared emergency machinery activated without another local signature.
Six inherited bolts locked the ring to the North Pump receiving court. Ridge’s Array stopped four centimeters before its western rail cut through the occupied control room.
At North Pump, 494 arrival marks pulled east.
Twenty-eight people fell against court walls. One child lost two teeth. A pump keeper’s shoulder left its treatment sling and opened onto Ridge ballast. Three residents inside private rooms developed black lines around their door keys.
Hesh Roof’s 202 scoped arrivals took the next share.
The eleven-year-old waiting to call her father felt the receiving floor become Ridge’s road. Her selected caregiver lifted her onto a treatment cot before the road reached both feet.
The contract protection held.
Ridge’s receiver hall remained current. Its 4,806 counted road and rail occupants kept a working Array site. No person inside the hall died.
Black Grass turned around the locked ring.
It entered Ridge South Field, where 318 people lived outside the Array equipment boundary. Their houses had no private garage connection and no shared reserve.
Two homes opened onto the one-ended road. A repair worker named Garo Nill lost his left arm closing a gas valve from one side of the missing street. South Field crews evacuated sixty-one residents through local yard lines before the second house disappeared.
The inherited protection had saved the Array and moved current danger into an uncontracted neighborhood.
Company counsel denied no part of the result.
"The contract protects connected emergency machinery," she said. "South Field accepted no protection and carries no contract injury share."
Ridge control answered through its own record.
"We rejected the inherited bolts before activation."
"The prior garage route remained eligible machinery. North Pump’s accepted root inherited it under the shared-reserve clause."
The clause was present in the corrected contract.
Ridge had never signed that contract.
North Pump had.
The root used a saved population’s acceptance to reach hardware owned by a different site.
Pavi asked for the eighth-day test.
Counsel opened a dry simulation using copies with no active people. Personal room marks released at the fixed local expiry. Pending addresses returned to public review. Treatment requests stayed current under local medical law.
The six Ridge foundation bolts remained inherited emergency machinery.
Their successor field had no expiry line.
North Pump’s receiving court also remained attached after personal addresses ended. The contract called the court equipment created during the term. Equipment passed through company succession until locally purchased, replaced, or destroyed.
"Seven days owns people for seven days," Pavi said. "It owns the rescue machine after them."
Counsel corrected one word.
"The people retain current choice. Their accepted fields support the machine during the term."
Pavi kept both statements in the review.
Ridge ordered local crews to cut the six bolts.
The first cut transferred one-third of Array recoil into the North Pump court. Four walls bowed inward. Private strike protection kept them from collapsing by spreading load through Hesh Roof patient routes.
One pump patient’s bed moved two roofs west. Her current body stayed in the receiving clinic while her oxygen line entered the lost Hesh stair.
Hesh workers cut the line from their side. Private treatment replaced it. The patient survived with six minutes of low oxygen and a route burn across her throat.
Ridge stopped cutting.
Local mechanics tested replacing one inherited bolt with plain rail steel. The replacement acquired the successor mark before its threads seated. A ceramic pin carried no mark and shattered under recoil load. Leaving the hole open turned the Array ring toward South Field again.
Shutting Ridge Array would stop inherited charge from that site. It would also remove the only current receiver tracking the one-ended road while thousands of arrivals still occupied its yard and rail zones.
Ridge retained the bolts under written objection and no consent claim.
The Woman’s counsel gave projected losses for removing all six bolts during active attack.
Ridge receiver hall could rotate into 4,806 current occupants.
North Pump court could collapse around 494 rescued people.
Hesh’s remaining roof population could lose the private patient corridor and one-third of shared water protection.
South Field would regain no houses already lost.
The numbers came from visible loads. Local teams contested ranges and could not dismiss the danger.
North Pump held a current court assembly while its contract remained active. One hundred eighty-nine people asked to release their collateral immediately. Two hundred eleven chose to hold through Hesh’s next patient movement. The remaining residents wanted local replacement routes built before either action.
The root accepted none of those answers as machinery control.
Their votes still changed the rescue plan. Hesh delayed its next patient transfer until North Pump’s current supporters staffed the court edge and objectors moved away from the load marks.
At South Field, Garo Nill reached Ridge treatment without joining the private root. Surgeons completed his arm amputation under a local clinic route. His gas-valve closure had prevented fire in fourteen homes.
He asked whether Array protection would cover the next strike.
Ridge could offer local evacuation lines and no inherited shield for his neighborhood. Garo chose treatment first and entered no position for the next attack.
The contract kept one population safer by defining another population outside its machinery.
Caleb offered a bounded root pull from Foundry Twelve.
One prior removable plate still carried independent separation. Two others now lay inert under Cairo’s shutter and Orra Gate’s fallen wall. New volume could form plates and could not recreate the missing route memory.
Ridge accepted his one plate at Bolt Six under a local keeper.
Caleb pulled only the successor mark.
The root answered by naming his plate `REPLACEMENT EMERGENCY MACHINERY`.
Silver spread from Bolt Six through Ridge’s foundation. It reached North Pump’s court and began drawing a seven-meter boundary around every rescued arrival mark.
Caleb released before the boundary closed.
His plate stayed at Ridge as local evidence. It no longer separated when he called.
Caleb had no prior removable plate left.
"If I tear the root, it makes me the rescue machine," he said.
His current body could grow new silver volume. Any new section lacked independent route release and could fuse him to the seven sites.
Kim reviewed the root from an evidence room controlled by eleven claimant routes.
She had no live command line. Farah supplied code pages one at a time after each claimant keeper approved the view.
Kim recognized the inheritance branch beneath the seven-day term.
"That is not the corridor’s original defense," she said. "It descends from mine."
Before subscriber ownership became public infrastructure, Kim had built one private exclusion around her archive work. It prevented projected viewers, buyers, and later claimants from inheriting her body or source records through a failed route.
She had never released it.
Archive Eight’s other protections had been seized, exposed, or destroyed. This exclusion remained hidden because it operated only when someone tried to claim Kim herself.
The Woman copied its logic into private corridor succession. Her version turned exclusion outward. Accepted machinery could exclude local release by inheriting itself through the next holder.
Farah asked whether the root could be cut from the copied branch.
"My original defense can reject its descendant," Kim said. "Once."
"Cost?"
"Release makes my exclusion current evidence. Claimants can enter the route it protected. Prosecutors can prove I retained hidden control after every disclosure order. My body and records lose their last private defense against seizure."
Eleven claimant keepers heard her.
Kim asked none of them to trust her.
"If you authorize the bounded release, the largest corridor root breaks," she said. "Then you get everything I kept it to hide."
