Nabil’s old hand finished the extraction call.

Eight bells answered across Post Eight.

The route body found the rhythm.

Every vehicle door in its shin opened. The bridge ends at its hips pulled apart. Arrival boards turned across its ribs until the fresh Sovereign hospital mark faced outward.

The loading-bay service door opened inside its chest.

An empty bed rolled through.

The bed fell twelve meters into Cairo’s excavation, struck a drill casing, and folded around it. One wheel remained in the hospital, spinning on the other side of the body’s ribs.

Sovereign’s transit officer hit the corridor release.

The contract rejected her.

```
DESTINATION RISK ACTIVE.
HOLDER RELEASE REQUIRES JOINT REVIEW.
```

"I am the holder," she said.

"You are one holder," the contract replied.

Sovereign Safety’s remote review desk had the other vote. Its queue estimated nine minutes.

The route body put one door-shin through the loading bay.

Concrete broke around the frame. A parked ambulance lost its rear doors, then its rear half. The severed section appeared under Post Eight’s west survey rail with emergency lights flashing across bare foundation ground.

Miri pulled the water carriers behind separate posts.

"Do not follow the red lights," she called.

At Cairo, the body’s other leg unfolded beneath Kestrel’s broken platform. Bus doors struck the lower beams. One door opened onto flood water and filled the shaft to Kestrel’s ankles before snapping shut.

Nabil dragged the medical case above the water with his young hand.

Mazen’s upper body shifted toward a door marked `RECOVERY`.

Kestrel tied him to the broken beam with the striped cloth.

"Recovery owed," she said. "This is not it."

The route body stood.

Its height occupied the hospital’s four-story loading wing, Cairo’s excavation shaft, and Post Eight’s open night. No single camera could frame it. Davi placed the three feeds beside one another and refused software that offered to join them.

Cairo sent one request through the deployment frame.

"Keep the route body out of the occupied station and away from the pit crew."

The hospital sent another.

"Keep its current material out of patient floors. Do not hold patients inside the building."

The request came from the charge nurse, not Sovereign’s contract office. She attached the current floor count: two hundred fourteen patients, nine ventilated, thirty-one unable to use stairs.

Dalia Saad occupied Room 417 after heart surgery. Her pressure had fallen twice that hour. Her sister sat beside the bed with Dalia’s reading glasses in one pocket and a paper cup of tea she had forgotten to drink.

The contract office proposed `PROTECT ALL REGISTERED PATIENTS WITHIN FACILITY DESTINATION`.

The charge nurse rejected it.

"Some can leave. Some need to leave. Keep the body out. Do not make the building their owner."

The overlap was force against the body between loading bay and excavation.

No endpoint belonged to Caleb.

He pressed both feet into Bay Twelve’s plate.

Ward Nine’s open rails bent around empty air beside him. Mercy’s shoulder fork took weight after Elara selected its pump. North Rail’s brace stopped his spine from following either destination.

Silver appeared around the route body’s waist.

It did not form Caleb’s complete body. One forearm crossed Cairo. Another braced the hospital loading wall. A shoulder existed at Post Eight as a curved silver plate under three separate survey chains.

Caleb pulled.

The bridge ends in the body’s pelvis ground against one another. Cars fell from both fragments. One landed in the Cairo flood water. Another crossed the hospital ceiling and crushed an unoccupied records desk.

Arrival boards struck Caleb’s silver.

```
CENTRAL CIVIC SHELTER.
MERCY BED FOUR.
ELARA CURRENT SUPPORT.
CALEB MERCER: TEMPORARY ANCHOR.
```

Each offered a place where his force could finish.

"No destination," Caleb said.

The body drove a bus-door knee into his Cairo forearm.

Silver split down to the floor plate. Caleb’s right ulna opened along an old feeder groove. No blood came. Black lines filled the break and tried to write `CAIRO` inside him.

Elara watched his arm on one feed and his body on another.

"Current action?"

"Hold waist away from both occupied sides."

"Current body?"

"Arm open. Three destination marks moving inward."

"Release point?"

"When Kestrel clears the chamber or either local keeper pulls."

Kestrel heard him.

The unfinished chamber was the only stable ledge near her platform. It also gave the route body a room shared by present Cairo and Post Eight.

"We remove the chamber," she said.

The drilling supervisor stared down from the surface.

"You are under it."

"We move to the east wall. Drop casings through the west lip after our line clears."

Nabil looked at Mazen.

There was no route that carried all three current bodies. Kestrel could move Mazen’s upper half only by taking the `RECOVERY` door the route body offered.

"He stays tied," she said.

Nabil closed his eyes once.

"Recorded."

They rigged a short manual rope from the platform to an east-wall pipe. Nabil named his movement. Kestrel named hers separately. The medical case moved under a third request after both people reached the wall shelf.

Mazen remained on the failing platform.

The route body pulled at the striped cloth.

Kestrel did not answer it.

The drilling crew released the first steel casing.

It fell through the west lip and struck the unfinished chamber roof. Wet concrete cracked across the future image.

The second casing hit the steel door beside Nabil’s abandoned boot. Door, boot, and three black blades disappeared into Post Eight’s west trench.

The third casing lodged across the room.

"Need another," Kestrel said.

"No loose casing."

The platform beam began tearing out of the east wall.

Mazen’s body moved with it.

Kestrel removed the emergency ram from the medical-case cart. Its piston had enough travel to push one beam. She could set it from the wall shelf, but the hand pump sat on the platform.

Nabil reached with his old right hand.

The field telephone cord tightened around his wrist.

His aged fingers touched two brass contacts hidden behind the cracked receiver. The surgery scar in his palm fitted around the lower contact as though somebody had cut it for that switch.

Post Eight’s extraction circuit closed.

Asa shouted from the old line.

"West bearing released. Current travelers witnessed elsewhere."

The route body’s foot left the old trench.

Its pelvis lost one bridge end.

Caleb tore the other end downward.

At the hospital, the transit officer drove a supply tug through the body’s open loading-bay door. The tug crossed into Cairo and struck the emergency ram handle.

The piston fired.

The third casing rolled through the chamber wall.

Concrete, copper pipe, yellow lamp, and steel door collapsed into the six missing meters. Black Grass rose through the debris and consumed the room relation that had held the body upright.

The platform fell with Mazen still tied to it.

It passed out of Cairo’s depth feed and did not appear at Post Eight.

Tali changed his status from `CURRENT BODY VISIBLE` to `RECOVERY ROUTE LOST`.

Caleb closed both silver arms around the route body’s ribs.

The arrival boards shattered.

Vehicle doors rained across Cairo streets. Hospital walls expelled axles, bridge stone, and evacuation tickets. At Post Eight, an ambulance rear half settled beside the cook tent and went dark.

The body’s unfinished head opened once.

Inside it, thousands of destinations called Caleb by name.

He released both local frames.

The body had nowhere to finish.

It collapsed into separate doors.

For three breaths, the hospital loading bay was quiet.

Then every door in the building opened.

Patient rooms, supply closets, operating theaters, toilets, lifts, and fire stairs lost their corridors.

Beyond each threshold lay Post Eight under petroleum lamps.

In Room 417, Dalia’s monitor alarm called into a construction night. Her sister opened the door for a nurse and found Miri Dast carrying boiled water on the other side.
