My God-Level System Can Rebuild Civilization in the Apocalypse!
Chapter 363: Lumber Shortage
The drawback was that it required more Strength than an ordinary axe, making it difficult for most people to wield it flexibly.
"A common-quality lumberjacking axe. It requires 8 Strength and can chop down one thousand units of basic wood per hour. Based on the area you want to enclose with your city walls, my lord, you’ll need at least one hundred thousand units of basic wood," Kang Taewoo concluded with the confidence of an experienced professional.
"How much?!" Joo Joowon exclaimed.
Although he had known that building city walls would require a considerable amount of wood, wasn’t one hundred thousand units a little too much? Building one mu of farmland only required ten units of wood!
Seeing such an intense reaction, Kang Taewoo suddenly began to feel that this lord was rather unreliable. It pulled up the map and shared it with Joo Joowon, pointing at the marked area.
"For a mountain this large, one hundred thousand units is already a very conservative estimate. I thought you would have a clear idea of the amount required, my lord."
Joo Joowon suddenly felt that even if every tree on the mountain were cut down, there might still not be enough wood. He could not help opening the Lord Forum to look around. If he had to buy everything and pay for shipping on top of that, how much would it cost?
He had never imagined that the thing that would ultimately stand in the way of his plans would be a shortage of basic wood.
Kang Taewoo did not notice Joo Joowon’s silence.
"My lord, where are your lumberjacks? I’ll take them with me to cut down trees."
Joo Joowon came back to his senses. "Oh, let’s go."
Kang Taewoo: "...?"
Huh?
This time, Kang Taewoo quickly understood what Joo Joowon meant. So when he had said that he would not make one bear do all the work, he meant that he would personally go along and cut down trees, too?
Kang Taewoo was speechless. Its eyes turned directly into the expression (= =).
"My lord, why don’t you just buy a few lumberjacks? The two of us alone wouldn’t be able to gather enough materials even if we spent an entire month cutting down trees!"
"Are you underestimating me?" Joo Joowon asked.
With his spider silk, he felt that temporarily playing the role of an octopus would not be a problem.
At a rate of one thousand units per hour, as long as there was enough wood nearby, he could gather ten thousand units in an hour. That meant he could finish the job in just ten hours.
Of course, in reality, he certainly would not be able to achieve such an ideal result. The trees were scattered across different parts of the mountain, so he would need time to travel between them. He also had to consider the physical exertion involved.
Even so, his efficiency would still be fairly high. He could gather the required materials quickly and begin construction without much delay.
...That is, if there was enough wood on the mountain.
Kang Taewoo could only find the whole situation difficult to put into words.
"It’s your territory, my lord. You can make your own decisions. Let’s go."
Joo Joowon nodded.
There were still plenty of other things he would need to spend money on later. Many of the building materials he needed could only be obtained by purchasing them through the game at the moment, as they could not be acquired in the real world.
Therefore, although the gold bar in Joo Joowon’s possession might seem like a lot of money, it would actually run out very quickly once he started spending it.
Naturally, he wanted to save as much as possible, so he still planned to do things himself for the time being and provide for his own needs through his own efforts.
"Byeol, we’re heading out first. Don’t forget to come tonight, okay~" Joo Joowon waved at Byeol, who was hiding in a corner and secretly observing them.
Because of Joo Joowon’s attitude toward Kang Taewoo, Byeol had not immediately become wary when the bear appeared. Instead, it had simply followed its usual habit of hiding in a dark corner and watching the strange creature that had suddenly appeared.
It had no interest in two legged creatures other than Joo Joowon. Usually, if it could avoid them, it would.
It was not that Byeol was afraid of strangers. It simply could not be bothered to pay attention to them.
Although Kang Taewoo had noticed Byeol when it first arrived, it had not paid much attention to the cat. It had assumed that Byeol was a little pet kept by the lord. However, judging from Joo Joowon’s words, Byeol also had work to do. Had Kang Taewoo been mistaken, then?
It glanced at the permissions Joo Joowon had granted it and used Detection on Byeol.

So it really was not a pet?
Kang Taewoo was a little surprised. After thinking for a moment, it tapped the map.
Although the little green dots on the map could not display detailed information, they did show names.
After looking around the map, Kang Taewoo had a general idea of the situation.
Perhaps it was just Joo Joowon’s imagination, but he suddenly felt that Kang Taewoo’s attitude toward him had become a little friendlier. He did not pay much attention to it, though. As they walked, he casually chatted with Kang Taewoo.
"What do members of your race usually eat?"
Kang Taewoo rubbed its belly and laughed cheerfully. "I’ll eat just about anything. You don’t need to prepare any special food for me, my lord."
Joo Joowon was slightly surprised by this answer. "Won’t that upset your stomach?"
He had thought the other party might eat cotton or some other special kind of food.
"No, it won’t," Kang Taewoo replied nonchalantly. "Even if something really does upset my stomach, I can just reach inside and take it back out. It won’t even cost me any HP."
As it spoke, it lifted its apron. "I even went out of my way to find a puppet maker to install a zipper for me. Even if I eat something poisonous, it won’t matter."
