Apart from the authorities, Joo Joowon could not think of many people who would be willing to protect children, the elderly, and pregnant women.

The continuation of civilization, the future of humanity, the preservation of morality, and all such ideals. To the vast majority of people, how could any of these things possibly be more important than their own lives?

Most living creatures had a natural tendency to move toward light. Especially in this darkness that was as thick as ink, their longing for light was magnified to its absolute limit.

Joo Joowon pulled the curtains shut, carried the two cats upstairs to the second floor, and placed the electronic candle on the dust covered table.

Although the game had already warned everyone that it was best not to turn on any lights during these three days, for most people, moving around without any light at all was extremely difficult.

He pulled the curtains in the bedroom shut. The curtains were not very thick, and their material allowed quite a lot of light to pass through, so their ability to block light was rather poor. The curtains were covered in various bright colors and patterns, making them look as though the owner of the house had used some unwanted bedsheets or similar pieces of fabric as curtains.

Curtains like these made it very easy for the light inside the room to leak outside. Joo Joowon rummaged through the wardrobe of the house for a while and found some bedsheets. He added another layer of fabric over the curtains, then used spider silk to seal all the gaps around them before finally feeling at ease.

Looking at the house from outside now, there should be no way to see any light coming from inside.

After finishing all of this, Joo Joowon finally went to receive the crossbow bolts made by Moon Jungi. After completing the transaction, he did not pay any further attention to the trading market. Instead, he opened a bottle of mineral water and took a few sips.

Although he had expected the Age of Apocalypse to cause some trouble when the trading market ended, he had not expected things to become this troublesome.

Byeol and Hwi could basically only stay at home for these three days. Their Mental Power were not particularly outstanding. If they went outside, forget about helping him. Being able to take care of themselves would already be good enough.

As for Joo Joowon himself, his situation in this environment could not exactly be considered good either. Although he had spider silk and mental power to help him scout the way, as a human who was accustomed to using his eyes to see things, it would obviously be a lie to say that this environment had no effect on him whatsoever.

Under these circumstances, the only creatures that probably would not be affected were animals that did not need to rely on their eyes to move around in the first place, such as ants, snakes, and similar creatures.

The eyes of these animals could not exactly be called useless, but they all had other sensory organs that assisted them in moving around, and they were also more accustomed to relying on those other sensory organs.

"Meow..." Byeol jumped into Joo Joowon’s arms, feeling completely flustered by this situation that he could not understand at all.

He had already tried. The moment he left the area illuminated by the electronic candle, he could no longer see anything. This completely unfamiliar situation caused fear to uncontrollably grow inside Byeol.

In the past, darkness had never been an obstacle to his movements. So why had things suddenly become like this now?

"Don’t be afraid. It will be over soon." Joo Joowon tried his best to comfort him and help him relax.

Although the game had not said whether creatures other than players would also hear the unknown whispers, it was likely that they would. Therefore, allowing Byeol’s emotions to fluctuate too intensely would not be a good thing for him.

Joo Joowon could not determine exactly how high Byeol’s Mental Power was. However, if he continued remaining in his current state, then even if he originally could not hear the whispers, he might be able to hear them now.

Joo Joowon’s technique for petting cats had been gradually perfected through practicing on Byeol, so he naturally knew exactly which places to massage to make him relax the most. Therefore, although the environment around them was still unfamiliar, Byeol slowly calmed down.

A cat’s eyes have never been merely decorative. They possess excellent dynamic vision, while both smell and sight are indispensable to them throughout their lives. That was precisely why this mutation had caused Byeol to become so panicked.

Fortunately, under Joo Joowon’s comfort and reassurance, he gradually returned to his calm state.

No matter what happened, as long as his human was still there, the other things were not that big of a deal.

Byeol was also a cat that had experienced life and death and had seen plenty of major situations, so his ability to deal with sudden changes was quite strong. He would not be like a kitten that had only been born recently and easily became startled by everything it encountered. After a brief moment of panic, he quickly composed himself.

For Joo Joowon in his current state, emotional fluctuations were the easiest things for him to detect. After noticing that Byeol’s emotions had gradually settled down, he could not help but breathe a sigh of relief. Only then did he have the mood to pay attention to Hwi, and for a moment, he did not know whether he should feel relieved or helpless.

Unlike Byeol, Hwi did not need Joo Joowon to come out and comfort him at all. When Joo Joowon carried Hwi upstairs, he had simply placed some cat food in front of him, and then this fellow had stopped reacting to everything. Forget about panic, the only emotion he was leaking out was happiness.
