’’GET UP THERE!’’

’’DON’T LET THEM PUSH YOU BACK!’’

The Deres soldiers immediately began climbing, their weapons drawn and shields raised above their heads.

Roderic tightened his grip around his blade.

’Finally,’ he thought. ’Time to get some action in!’

Frankly, he’d started to get tired of the wait.

His gaze immediately locked onto a nearby ladder.

Several Deres soldiers had already climbed halfway up, making them perfect targets.

However, just as he was about to move, a familiar voice rang out behind him.

’’WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING?!’’

Roderic raised an eyebrow and turned around.

Arthur’s gaze had locked onto him, his expression even containing a bit of anger.

’’STAY BACK AND WAIT FOR AN ORDER!’’

For a moment, Roderic truly didn’t know how to react.

Many thoughts raced through his mind as he tried to decipher the reason for the command.

Just as he realized what was going on, two familiar figures approached from behind.

’’Young master.’’

Roderic glanced over his shoulder.

Standing behind him were Sir Roland and Sir Benjamin, both fully armored two-seal knights.

’’We’ve been assigned to you,’’ Roland explained respectfully. ’’The baron ordered us to remain back until the enemy three-seal knights make a move.’’

Roderic’s face fell slightly.

It seemed he’d figured out Arthur’s intentions correctly.

But... he didn’t like it one bit.

’’We are to work together to contain one,’’ Benjamin continued thoughtfully. ’’Which will require our full stamina.’’

Roderic immediately shook his head in annoyance.

’What a fucking waste...’

This was the perfect opportunity to reduce the enemy’s numbers.

With the Deres soldiers desperately trying to climb the walls, he could easily kill dozens of them without expending much stamina or aura.

Unfortunately, Arthur had already made his decision.

And as much as Roderic disliked it, he couldn’t deny the reasoning behind it.

’Even the three of us will struggle to contain a three-seal knight,’ he thought. ’They are just that much stronger.’

He paused for a moment.

’It’s just a shame they won’t attack until our gate has been breached.’

If they did and decided to breach the gates themselves or jump onto the walls, they’d be paying far too heavy a price.

Arthur and Harris would sacrifice their lives to take down as many enemy soldiers as possible, fighting without any regard for their own safety.

It’d most definitely end in a victory for Deres.

But how many soldiers would still be alive to celebrate that victory?

’A third? Maybe a bit more,’ he thought. ’There’s no reason they’d choose that when they can ’win’ through several other means.’

BOOM!

A loud crash suddenly interrupted his thoughts.

Roderic turned his attention back to the battlefield.

’’PUSH THEM BACK!’’

’’DON’T LET THEM REACH THE TOP!’’

The Whitemane soldiers were desperately fighting to prevent the enemy from climbing onto the walls.

Several spearmen thrust their weapons down, piercing the bodies of Deres soldiers who had climbed too high.

Many died without being able to utter a word.

Those who didn’t lost their grip and fell back, crashing into several companions below.

Meanwhile, other defenders had grabbed long wooden poles and placed them against the ladders.

’’PUSH!’’

’’HARDER!’’

CREAK!

Several ladders slowly began tipping back.

The Deres soldiers climbing them desperately tried to regain their balance, but there was nothing they could do.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Ladder after ladder slammed into the ground, crushing several unfortunate soldiers beneath them.

’’GOOD! KEEP PUSHING THEM BACK!’’

Despite their efforts, the Deres soldiers continued relentlessly.

Within moments, several more ladders had been raised against the walls.

Commands rang out one after another down below.

’’KEEP CLIMBING!’’

’’GO! GO! GO!’’

However, with the advantage of height, the Whitemane defenders managed to repel one attempt after another.

Roderic watched on quietly, his heart only pounding faster as the minutes passed.

CLANG!

Suddenly, the noise of clashing weapons caught his attention.

Roderic’s head snapped to the side.

Not too far away, a Deres soldier had managed to climb on top of the wall.

With his sword raised, he lunged at the nearest Whitemane soldier once more.

CLANG!

The spearman barely managed to slam the weapon aside.

’’HERE!’’ he shouted.

Within moments, two reserve spearmen dashed forward.

SWISH! SWISH!

The Deres soldier met his end in an instant.

Unfortunately, several more enemy soldiers had climbed onto the wall in the meantime.

The three spearmen immediately turned their attention to the newcomers.

’’GET THEM!’’ one shouted, thrusting his spear forward.

SWISH!

It pierced through a soldier’s chest.

However, before he could pull his weapon back, another enemy swung his sword at him.

SWISH!

The spearman’s eyes widened.

A deep gash appeared across his neck, blood immediately pouring down his armor.

Only a moment later, he collapsed lifelessly.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Several more Deres soldiers managed to climb onto the wall, slowly pushing the Whitemane soldiers away.

’’WE NEED MORE MEN OVER HERE!’’ one of the squad leaders shouted.

A few reserve soldiers immediately rushed to the struggling defenders.

However, they weren’t the only ones in trouble.

’’THEY’RE ON THE WALLS!’’

’’WE NEED REINFORCEMENTS!’’

Similar shouts began ringing out across several sections.

Roderic quickly glanced around.

More and more Deres soldiers managed to climb onto the wall.

Although they hadn’t gained much ground yet, it was enough to force archers to take out their swords.

The scene wasn’t much of a surprise to Roderic.

With such a large difference in numbers, this was bound to happen.

’’Alright, that’s it,’’ he said, turning to Roland and Benjamin. ’’One of you, bring me anything I can throw.’’

Roland and Benjamin exchanged confused glances.

Roderic simply smiled.

’’I’m not going anywhere,’’ he continued. ’’And it isn’t up for discussion.’’

For a moment, neither knight knew what to say.

Then Benjamin nodded.

’’I’ll see what I can find, young master,’’ he replied respectfully.

The smile on Roderic’s face grew faintly.

’’Much appreciated,’’ he said, turning back to the front.

His gaze wandered across the battlefield, eventually settling on the siege machines waiting in the distance.

Six large siege towers and four battering rams.

’They won’t wait that long anymore,’ he thought. ’This is going to be troublesome.’

So far, the Deres army had relied entirely on their infantry to overwhelm the defenders.

But now, with more and more Whitemane archers being forced to abandon their bows, they’d finally created the opportunity they’d been waiting for.

’Even if I’d intervened earlier, that result wouldn’t have changed.’

RUMBLE! RUMBLE!

As if responding to his thoughts, the siege towers suddenly began moving.

Roderic’s eyes narrowed.

’There they go.’

Behind the towers, the four battering rams also began advancing toward the city.

Hundreds of soldiers marched alongside them, their shields raised to protect the machines.

And among them were rows of archers, ready to provide covering fire.

Roderic immediately glanced toward Arthur.

Unsurprisingly, the baron had already noticed the movement.

’’PUSH THEM OFF THE WALLS!’’ he shouted. ’’ARCHERS! INCENDIARY ARROWS!’’
