Chapter 146 - You Can't Underestimate Yourself
As the night and the Playoffs went on, the battles in the Municipal Arena reached another level.
After the 'Half-Wolf' beat Hanemiya Sallow with extreme superiority, he won many fans, because most didn't even understand what happened in the battle. Since it lasted less than five minutes, Luke started to be cheered like someone mysteriously powerful.
Next, it was Nathalia's turn to enter the battle arena again. She was confident in herself, and to motivate her even more, her opponent would be Adven, the swordsman who had mocked her before their first fight.
The boy looked with contempt at Nathalia, as if she had been lucky to make it all the way to the round of 16, but in a few minutes, this was proven otherwise.
The young Miss Strogueher took possession of the center of the battlefield, and since Adven feared that the same thing would happen to him that happened to Hanemiya, he dared not enter into the stone labyrinth. Adven was using only a two-handed sword, whose blade was medium-sized and also seemed thick. The boy was constantly being pressed by the fast and powerful attacks of the Daughter of Hades, Nathalia's spear.
And the boy's mistake was to let himself be pressured because with each blow that Nathalia completed, the next one was even stronger and faster.
'This girl... she thinks she can humiliate me in front of everyone? I won't allow that!' Adven thought, as he gritted his teeth and defended her blows.
So, when he used his <Switching Eyes> skill, he looked up at Nathalia and was teleported to this exact position.
"Now you've fucked yourself!" he shouted, at the same time striking downward with his sword. His parted bangs were thrown back with the wind caused by his blow.
Nathalia smiled when she heard Adven scream, because she already knew that he wouldn't remain unresponsive for long, and she already anticipated the use of some skill. Her spear had such a good speed boost that she still managed to react in time to block Adven's blow and then kicked him in the stomach, throwing him hard against one of the rocks.
At that moment, not only did Luke realize that Nathalia was already at a level above a C-Class, but the whole stadium realized her strength. Now, even without her armor, the Elf was handling dangerous situations very well, and this shut the mouths of those who said that Nathalia only won the first battle because she had good armor.
Adven stood up from the sand floor, leaning on the rock thrown onto. He searched the ground for his sword, but as soon as his eyes could find it, the tip of the 'Daughter of Hades' was pointed against his throat.
Although Nathalia said nothing, Adven reluctantly accepted his defeat and spoke:
"I give up."
Upon hearing this, a huge smile appeared on the face of the young white-haired Elf. This contented and proud smile fascinated all the men in the stadium, who thought they were seeing a Goddess on the battlefield. Nathalia's aggressive way of fighting, combined with her beauty, made her win thousands of fans.
When she was teleported to the bleachers again, she soon jumped on the half-wolf.
"Thank you so much! Thank you so much! Thank you so much!" She spoke a few times, with a huge smile on her face and her eyes sparkling.
Luke Lange was surprised by the girl's reaction. "Why are you thanking me?" He asked with a confused smile.
"You and Alexis have trained me so much over the past few weeks, and I've been able to learn so much from you!"
The half-wolf didn't know how to answer his friend, because the giant responsible for Nathalia's tremendous evolution was the growth of her confidence in herself and also Alexis, who taught the Elf how to be aggressive, committing as few slips as possible.
In fact, Luke was totally opposed to the aggressive type of approach and only acted this way when the battle demanded it. After hearing Nathalia's thanks, he took advantage of the fact that there were still six battles left and called her over to eat the things Martha handed her for him to keep in his inventory.
They returned in time to see 'The Previous' kill one more person, and so far, he had been the only participant to kill in the Playoffs. The man wore a buffalo skull as a mask, as well as a black hood with two feathers on top of the cap.
This man gave even Luke goosebumps because he was using his scythe with absurd precision, and he didn't say a word at any time.
The half-wolf felt like facing him, to see how he himself would react to 'The Previous's' cruel cuts, and luckily, the first quarterfinal match was exactly that.
People were excited to see the cheering 'Half-Wolf' against the man who looked like he came out of some cannibal tribe from horror tales.
"Run! Run! That will be the best fight of the night so far!"
"There's no way the 'Half-Wolf' is going to lose to someone like that guy."
"I wouldn't complain if the half-wolf died."
"Hey, 'The Previous'! Go take it up the ass!"
The terrain of the battlefield changed for this round as well. All the rocks that had not yet been cut or shattered were laid down. Forming an extremely uneven terrain. On such a battlefield, it would not be difficult to trip at some point or trap a leg between rocks, and this didn't please Luke.
When the start of the battle was decreed by Mikaela, Luke immediately removed his Claymore from his inventory. However, unlike all of Luke's other opponents, 'The Previous' did not move a muscle, who always took the first action.
This man, who wore a skull as a mask, was wearing black, patched clothes and was also wearing a long Pansperm scythe, whose primary function was to increase the size of the blow or retract when the user deemed it necessary.
The half-wolf could see the cold stare of 'The Previous' through his mask, and for the first time, Luke's opponent opened his mouth to mutter something:
"Are you afraid to die, 'Half-Wolf'? Because today you will."
