Chapter 542 – The Sinister Shadow Behind the Car
B0XNVEL.CƟMGuan He and his two comrades were completely dumbfounded. From the moment they rushed into the stairwell to their descent down the stairs, they hadn’t even had a chance to lift a finger in combat.
The three girls charged ahead, and although Ling Mo did not engage directly, his actions hinted at a method of fighting that was beyond their comprehension.
Combat between mental ability users is invisible to the naked eye. The trio couldn’t discern how Ling Mo was fighting, but they could at least see that every zombie that came close to him was mysteriously thrown away.
In contrast to their terror-filled hearts, Ling Mo appeared far too calm…
Suddenly, Guan He had a realization.
Why hadn’t Ling Mo and his group devised a plan of action? Because they simply didn’t need one!
They hadn’t included Guan He’s trio in their plans at all; they were merely there to watch!
With the formidable combat strength of the three girls and Ling Mo’s strategic coordination, they could easily steamroll through the opposition.
“We’ve been reduced to mere spectators…” Guan He thought with tears streaming down his face.
Huang Duo also noticed this and was immediately annoyed.
But as disgruntled as he was, did he dare to rush into the intense fray a few meters away?
The zombies’ nails meant certain death upon contact, and in such a confined space, he wasn’t confident he could cover all his bases.
Meanwhile, the three girls moved swiftly and powerfully, maneuvering with ease among a dozen zombies, even moving in ways that defied logic.
If one person could do this, it could be explained by psychic abilities, but all three…
Huang Duo glanced at Ling Mo and understood. This anomaly was definitely Ling Mo’s doing.
Still, Huang Duo didn’t look at Ling Mo favorably, even letting out a heavy snort of contempt.
“Stay close to me later,” Ling Mo suddenly said to Huang Duo.
“Oh…” Huang Duo nodded subconsciously, then jumped up in surprise. “Who are you calling ‘Duo Duo’?”
“Cut it out,” Ling Mo retorted, already turning and pushing Huang Duo behind him.
Caught off guard, Huang Duo stumbled backwards, his heel hitting a step, nearly causing him to fall.
“What the heck…!” Before Huang Duo could explode in anger, he saw a zombie flying from in front of Ling Mo and crashing at Ye Lian’s feet.
Ye Lian immediately stomped down on it, and at the same time, Xia Na’s scythe swung, precisely slicing the zombie’s neck and dragging it away.
The zombie’s arms flailed twice, hitting nothing but air.
“This…”
Huang Duo then realized the zombie had been stealthily approaching them, attempting to strike.
If not for Ling Mo’s quick reaction, they might have been thrown into chaos by now, with injuries or even fatalities likely.
Thinking back to his own outburst that nearly interfered with Ling Mo, possibly leading to a grave error, Huang Duo’s face turned shades of red and white.
Guan He frowned at Huang Duo but said nothing, his dissatisfaction clear on his face.
Xiao Ming couldn’t hold back his frustration and exclaimed, “Huang Duo, what are you doing? Look at the mess you’ve made…”
“What mess have I made?” Huang Duo shot back irritably, as if to say, ‘If you don’t speak up, no one will think you’re mute!’
“Why so aggressive…” Xiao Ming muttered under his breath, clearly displeased.
However, Ling Mo didn’t offer an opinion on the matter. Instead, he simply commanded “Follow me” before taking the lead and running down the stairs.
Guan He and Xiao Ming immediately followed suit, and after a moment’s hesitation, Huang Duo joined them as well.
This time, however, he didn’t try to take the lead; he just followed the group down without any further actions until they were off the building.
“We’re about done here. Most of the zombies left in the square have been lured into this building and eliminated,” Ling Mo stated.
“That’s amazing…” Guan He remarked in awe.
Their original plan had been just that, but in Guan He’s mind, the best tactic was to defend the rooftop iron door to slowly wear down the zombies.
Alternatively, they could have bottlenecked them in the stairwell, taking them out one by one as they came up.
But such a direct and violent approach to combat was something Guan He hadn’t even considered, let alone witnessed before!
Less than five minutes… In just under five minutes, they had wiped out nearly thirty zombies.
Are they even human?!
Guan He held nothing but reverence for the combat abilities of Ling Mo and his group, which explained why Yuwen Xuan had been so vague when giving instructions, merely saying, “Just follow and learn, don’t fall behind…”
At the time, Guan He hadn’t taken those words seriously, but now he realized that it was practically their operational motto…
“Xiao Ming, pay close attention…” said Guan He.
“I am watching!” Xiao Ming replied, his face full of admiration. His boldness in speaking up to Huang Duo was precisely because of his reverence for Ling Mo and his companions.
“There shouldn’t be many zombies left outside now, let’s go,” Ling Mo gestured with a wave of his hand.
Ye Lian and the two other women walked ahead as usual; being zombies themselves, they wouldn’t be the primary targets even if spotted by their own kind.
The reason that one zombie had stealthily circled around them earlier was just that, but in such a cramped and chaotic space, Guan He and the others couldn’t have noticed any anomaly…
But now, they needed to be more cautious. Ling Mo waited for Ye Lian and her group to get about ten meters ahead before he waved his hand and led Guan He and the others out.
The building they had descended from was probably an office structure, and it was quite a distance from the oil depot.
The oil depot, while seemingly small from the air, felt quite spacious from within.
Several abandoned oil tankers were scattered haphazardly across the lot, partially obstructing their view.
“It’s a good thing there hasn’t been an explosion; otherwise, all the oil here would be gone,” Ling Mo observed.
“Yeah, besides jet fuel and aviation kerosene, there’s also some regular gasoline here. All of this is useful to us,” Guan He began to murmur, “I heard that regular gasoline is specifically requested by Falcon headquarters. We’ll be collecting more for them in other places. Now, this stuff has turned into a complete non-renewable resource, truly too precious…”
“What kind of fuel do helicopters use?” Ling Mo asked curiously.
“Aviation gasoline,” Guan He said. “This type of gasoline, well, it’s used in aircraft with aviation piston engines. But these are all auxiliary models… like helicopters, communication planes, and so on…”
“Okay, okay, we’ll talk later,” Ling Mo replied, his head aching after hearing just a bit. He really shouldn’t have asked…
The group stuck close to the wall, moving slowly toward the direction of the oil depot, their actions very gentle.
Not all zombies had been lured inside the building, after all, who knew if any had been overlooked and were hiding nearby?
Even if there weren’t any on this open ground, they were certainly inside the buildings.
The group had just turned a corner when Xiao Ming, who was at the back, suddenly swayed and bumped into an oil tanker that was blocking the way.
This tanker was stuck right there; everyone had squeezed past its side, but Xiao Ming, nervous as he was, hit the corner.
“Clang!”
The sound wasn’t loud, but Xiao Ming let out a “Ouch,” his brow furrowing in pain.
“What’s wrong, what’s wrong?” Guan He quickly turned to ask.
“It hurts…” Xiao Ming winced, unable to free himself.
Ling Mo hurried over and immediately sighed, “His thigh is cut open.”
“Ah? How could you be so careless!” Guan He immediately grabbed Xiao Ming’s arm, trying to pull him out.
A dark brown trace of blood slowly seeped through Xiao Ming’s trousers.
Ye Lian, who was at the front, sniffed the air and then turned around blankly.
Meanwhile, a pair of dirty feet appeared from the other end of the oil tanker…
“Hurry up!” Huang Duo shouted.
“Slow down, slow down, be careful, there’s rust…” Guan He said in a low voice.
Ling Mo wanted to help but felt that the boy was really a bit clumsy, and he was somewhat speechless for a moment.
But considering that Xiao Bai could squeeze through the tiniest gaps, he felt a bit relieved compared to Xiao Bai, Xiao Ming was still a bit smarter after all…
In their rush, no one noticed that from the gap under the tanker, one could see a pair of feet slowly approaching.
Not only that, not long after these feet passed by, another pair of female feet appeared as well.
The dirty, bare lower legs were covered in blood plasma and mud, and one foot was missing its shoe.
The movements of both pairs of legs were slow and utterly silent…
