[Do you wish to spend 10,000 Soul Energy and 1 Legendary Point to upgrade this equipment?]
Adhering to his principle of "playing it safe," Li Heng had spent 1,000 Soul Energy Points to upgrade his original Heavy Armor Arm Guard.
The Moon Heavy Armor Arm Guard!
Setting all else aside, the moment Li Heng saw the direct +9 to his stats and the complete removal of all negative attributes, he was completely at ease.
Once the upgrade was complete, he immediately equipped it on his right arm. At the same time, he felt a sudden surge of strength course through his body.
With the equipment’s boost, his Strength reached a high of 41 points!
’I’ve got this! I’ve totally got this!’
If before he was prepared to flee the moment he couldn’t gain an advantage, now, with the appearance of the Moon Heavy Armor Arm Guard, Li Heng had no intention of letting this Ice Luan get away.
With two stats completely overwhelming the beast, and their Spirit attributes being roughly equal, plus the boosts from his Body Technique and Swordsmanship, Li Heng was extremely confident.
But at the same time, he didn’t forget to scan his surroundings with his peripheral vision, checking for any other stray Soul Beasts that might be wandering over.
Perhaps due to the Ice Luan’s "aura," no other Soul Beasts appeared suddenly. Even the roars from before had diminished significantly.
Seeing this, Li Heng decided to focus his attention and properly fight this Ice Luan—as soon as it flew down.
SCREE~
Unlike its previous cries, this call seemed to be one of the Ice Luan’s Soul Energy Skills. Its sound faintly carried a sorrowful tone.
Although his stats overwhelmed the Ice Luan, Li Heng remained vigilant due to his lack of experience fighting Flying Soul Beasts.
The sorrowful undertones in the Ice Luan’s cry only registered with Li Heng for a moment. He didn’t fall into its trap and kept his eyes fixed on the creature above.
After crying out, the Ice Luan suddenly spread its wings. Moonlight shone down through them, and if it weren’t for the sharp icicles mixed in with the light...
...the scene would have been incredibly beautiful!
As the Ice Luan spread its wings, the icicles poured down with the force of a torrential rainstorm, but their power was dozens of times greater.
The Empty Cicada Longsword danced, and Li Heng’s figure moved with it.
CLANG~
CLANG~
CLANG~
A sound like scraping metal rang out continuously as the icicles collided with the Empty Cicada Longsword.
If Bao Yaoyao were still here, she would have seen Li Heng swinging his sword without pause.
And then, a breathtaking "scroll painting" would have unfolded.
Bright silver butterflies and shards of shattered icicles instantly intertwined, and with the desolate moonlight shining through, an ethereal, hazy feeling was added to the scene.
Hazy and indistinct, it faintly resembled an Immortal Realm.
But this "Immortal Realm" had no admirers. Li Heng, at its center, certainly didn’t find it beautiful. He was simply swinging his sword to bat away icicles or using his Body Technique to dodge them.
In a ten-meter radius around Li Heng, the ground was now completely pockmarked with craters; not a single patch was left intact.
This showed just how formidable the Ice Luan’s icicle attack was.
Although the icicles were powerful, it wasn’t too difficult for Li Heng to handle. He’d call it a normal level of difficulty.
At least, Li Heng felt this dense barrage of icicles wasn’t as terrifying as dozens of Blood Wolves pouncing at once, nor as hair-raising as more than twenty Cold Ice Pythons whipping their tails in unison.
Especially since he had just gained 9 points of Strength, Li Heng felt it wasn’t a big problem.
Meanwhile, the Ice Luan in mid-air, seeing its two consecutive attacks have no effect, seemed to have become truly enraged. It threw its head back, spread its wings towards the desolate moon in the sky, and let out its sharpest cry yet!
SCREE~
SCREE~
"It’s that terrifying?! Li Heng... he doesn’t seem like the type to take risks... He should be fine, right?"
Bao Yaoyao was already far from the Ice Luan, but hearing those furious cries, she couldn’t help but feel her scalp tingle.
She couldn’t even imagine the kind of pressure she would be under if she were there right now. After a minute or two, it probably wouldn’t be just pressure she was suffering from.
She’d either be dead or would have been forced to teleport away.
Not daring to think about it further, Bao Yaoyao didn’t just focus on escaping. As she ran, she fought.
After all, the Tier Two high-grade Ice Luan wasn’t the only thing on a rampage; the other rampaging Secret Realm Creatures were not to be trifled with either.
Bao Yaoyao had no desire to "capsize in a ditch." For any creature she saw along her path, it was a simple matter of a swift strike.
She couldn’t afford to provoke a high-grade Tier Two creature, but did that mean she was afraid to take on Tier One Soul Beasts and ordinary Secret Realm Creatures?
However, when it came to Li Heng and the Ice Luan, Bao Yaoyao’s thoughts were a complicated mess. At the very least, her mind was currently filled with nothing but that man and that bird.
But no matter what, her own safety had to come first.
Ensuring she could pass the Secret Realm’s college entrance exam was the proper path. Therefore, although she was deeply concerned, Yaoyao had no plans to go back and "check on" Li Heng and the Ice Luan for now.
「Meanwhile.」
Li Heng had already lost count of how many times he had blocked the Ice Luan’s icicles head-on, yet the creature had only lowered its flight altitude slightly.
The Ice Luan’s current altitude was still outside of Li Heng’s attack range.
’Aside from that Heavy-Armored Antelope, are all Tier Two Soul Beasts this shameless?’
Li Heng thought of the Blood Wolf King from the Dungeon. It was truly the most cowardly boss he had ever seen, always hiding behind a huge pack of Blood Wolves.
When trouble arose, it never charged in itself, instead letting its underlings do all the fighting!
This Ice Luan was the same. It was shamelessly unleashing its Soul Energy Skills, just because it could fly. ’So what if you can fly? Is that such a big deal?’
This was just Li Heng’s internal complaint, but it also showed that Tier Two Soul Beasts seemed to have more "intelligence" than Tier One Soul Beasts; they weren’t just pure meatheads.
After these few waves of attacks, Li Heng wasn’t tired, nor did he feel much pressure. He was just a little frustrated.
But this couldn’t go on forever. Li Heng felt he needed a breakthrough, and he refused to believe the Ice Luan in the sky could release its Soul Energy Skills indefinitely without any limits.
’If all else fails, the Ice Luan has to get tired eventually!’
And so, the man and the bird were locked in a stalemate. The Ice Luan released its Soul Energy Skills from mid-air, while Li Heng defended on the ground, swinging his Empty Cicada Longsword.
As time went on, Li Heng gradually noticed that with every use of its Soul Energy Skills, the Ice Luan’s flight altitude slowly decreased.
Seeing this, Li Heng understood.
He just needed to drag this out a little longer, and the Ice Luan would definitely enter his attack range. That would be his chance!
