Chapter 30: Cold Ice Python
Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Cold Ice Python
Early the next morning, Li Heng and Bai Shasha left the settlement and headed for the Icefield to continue their exploration.
As for the conflict late last night, it had naturally played out as expected. Just as tensions peaked and someone even summoned a soul energy pet, Lin Jiangang had stepped in to intervene.
The students involved were each given a warning. If any similar incidents occurred, they would be immediately teleported out of the secret realm, losing their chance to explore it any further.
After that, everyone went about their business. Even though both sides of the conflict were still annoyed with each other, they chose to leave it at that and didn’t continue the argument.
After Lin Jiangang’s intervention, the settlement was quiet for the rest of the night, right until dawn.
For some unknown reason, the light snow and freezing rain on the second day were much lighter than on the first, and visibility had improved significantly.
Combined with their experience from the previous day’s exploration, Li Heng and Bai Shasha were a bit more relaxed as they walked across the Icefield. Although they were still cautious, they no longer needed to keep their eyes peeled in every direction.
Hungry Snow Leopards were likely the most numerous and weakest creatures on this Icefield. Most of the Soul Energy Items and Equipment the students turned in came from them.
The students who entered this secret realm were all top students from their respective high schools. They generally understood that it was only a matter of time before the Snow Leopard resources on the vast Icefield were all farmed. Consequently, quite a few people had set out for the Icefield early.
With the improved visibility, Li Heng and Bai Shasha could occasionally see other students’ movements while they were hunting Snow Leopards, but there were no conflicts over resources.
Because of the better visibility, Li Heng planned to venture deeper today. If possible, it would be best to reach the Wind Snow Area. After all, the biggest draw of the entire secret realm for Li Heng was whether there were any Dungeons he could record.
As Li Heng and Bai Shasha ventured deeper into the Icefield Area, the number of Snow Leopards began to decrease, replaced by new Soul Beasts.
"Bai Shasha, back up a bit. That snake should be a Soul Beast, and I don’t think it’ll be easy to deal with."
Cold Ice Python: Healthy
Level: 11
Tier: Tier One Low-Grade Soul Beast
Strength: 11
Agility: 11
Spirit: 10
Soul Energy: 16
Soul Energy Skill: Wind of Frost
Li Heng saw the Cold Ice Python’s detailed stats and figured he could handle it alone without much trouble. So, he decided to put on a bit of a show.
He would send Bai Shasha away and then plausibly claim that the Cyan Blade Longsword was a piece of equipment dropped by this Soul Beast.
"I’ll keep watch on the surroundings. You be careful!"
Seeing Li Heng’s solemn expression and glancing at the five-meter-long python emanating a cold aura not far away, Bai Shasha tactfully retreated and began to vigilantly watch their surroundings.
Once Bai Shasha had moved away, Li Heng estimated she was far enough. He directly switched to his Cyan Blade Longsword and pointed it at the Cold Ice Python.
Although his own Strength and Agility were much higher than the Cold Ice Python’s, and he believed a solo kill shouldn’t be a problem, Li Heng remained vigilant. A Soul Beast’s Soul Energy Skill was no joke.
Moreover, this was the largest creature Li Heng had faced since entering the secret realm, so he felt a little nervous.
"Wolf Walk Technique!"
Nervous or not, he still had to make the necessary preparations. Activating the Wolf Walk Technique, Li Heng swung his sword toward the Cold Ice Python’s vital spot.
When fighting a python of this length, attacking its tail was clearly asking for trouble. Li Heng had no desire to experience the feeling of being slammed by a tail whip.
At the same time, if he focused most of his attention on the Cold Ice Python’s tail, it could twist its body at any moment and bite him.
Li Heng couldn’t guarantee he would be able to react in time in that situation. Therefore, a quick, direct strike aimed at the Cold Ice Python’s vital spot was the most effective method of attack.
HISS~
HISS~
The speed and direction of Li Heng’s attack clearly alerted the Cold Ice Python to the danger. It flicked its tongue and immediately unleashed its strongest offensive move.
The fallen snow and ice shards on the ground rapidly gathered at the Cold Ice Python’s mouth. The surrounding air pressure changed, and Li Heng could clearly feel a wind starting to rise from the python’s body.
The source of the wind was its mouth!
Wind of Frost!
Feeling the ice shards sting his face, Li Heng instantly identified it as the Cold Ice Python’s Soul Energy Skill. The bone-chilling cold also made it clear that he couldn’t take this Wind of Frost head-on.
So, Li Heng leaned to his left, maintaining his offensive stance, and dodged the Wind of Frost gathering at the snake’s mouth.
But as Li Heng moved, although the Cold Ice Python’s head didn’t move, its tail came whistling through the air, smashing toward him.
’Holy shit! It reacts that fast?’
Li Heng was also a bit surprised by the Cold Ice Python’s change in tactics. Its reaction speed was a little too fast.
He had no intention of testing the force of a five-meter-long snake body slamming down, so his only option was to shift his position again.
WHOOSH~~
A wave of cold air swept past his right side as ice shards and snow whizzed by. Li Heng himself wasn’t hit, but he felt as if the Cyan Blade Longsword had been struck by the Wind of Frost, making the blade feel heavier.
BANG~
After the Wind of Frost passed, the snake’s tail slammed viciously onto the Icefield, sending splinters of ice flying at Li Heng.
It was then that Li Heng realized that while the Cold Ice Python’s attacks looked fierce, they didn’t seem to be very damaging. Although the Cyan Blade Longsword had been hit by the Wind of Frost, it hadn’t frozen over. There were just some ice shards clinging to it, which didn’t affect his ability to use it.
Most importantly, while the Cold Ice Python reacted quickly, its large body meant its attacks had a wide swing, making them very easy to dodge. At least, Li Heng thought they were easy to dodge.
With the Cold Ice Python’s attacks missing twice in a row, Li Heng had no intention of just standing around. His previous attacks and dodges had closed the distance between him and the python.
The Cold Ice Python’s vital spot was right in front of him!
So, he mustered his strength and swung the Cyan Blade Longsword fiercely.
BANG!
The Cold Ice Python’s vital spot was hit, and its head slammed heavily onto the Icefield.
’Huh? It actually dropped something!’
As the system displayed the Cold Ice Python’s death, Li Heng noticed a green orb of light emerge from its body and walked over, sword in hand.
Name: Frost Ring
Category: Soul Energy Equipment
Value: Common
Effects:
1. Wearer’s Agility +1, Spirit +1.
2. Cold Resistance +1.
[Consume 100 Soul Energy to upgrade this equipment?]
After seeing that it was a piece of Soul Energy Equipment and checking its specific stats, Li Heng decided not to turn in the Cold Python Ring. Although he didn’t feel cold now, if he later entered the Wind Snow Area or even the Ice Lake District, the cold resistance would be much more important.
Besides, he had Soul Energy points to upgrade the Cold Python Ring, giving him even less reason to hand it over.
Nearby, Bai Shasha stood guard, watching as Li Heng quickly and flawlessly slew another Soul Beast. The sight solidified her resolve: ’I must become a Soul Apprentice in this secret realm!’
