Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Meteor University, Comprehensive Department
1. Four sets of custom-made Meteor University school uniforms, free of charge.
2. One free bottle of a Tier Two Elixir per month.
3. One Soul Energy Skill book of your choice, of any attribute.
4. A full waiver of tuition and miscellaneous fees for all four years, plus a freshman year scholarship paid at the highest possible amount.
5. A private, high-end, retro-style dormitory room.
6. The right to purchase on-campus real estate at a preferential price.
7. An offer of employment at the university upon graduation.
These seven points were the final "terms" Lu Shengming offered after his discussion with Li Heng.
Originally, Lu Shengming’s offer had included a guaranteed spot for Li Heng to enter a fully-explored Secret Realm once a month.
However, Li Heng suggested swapping this for something else, so Lu Shengming changed it to one free bottle of a Tier Two Elixir per month.
In the end, Li Heng and Lu Shengming came to an agreement. After waiting for Li Guobin and his wife to return home and asking for their opinion, Li Heng filled out his university application, listing Meteor University.
Major: General Studies.
In truth, other universities could have made similar offers. What ultimately made Li Heng choose Meteor University was something Lu Shengming mentioned offhandedly during their conversation.
"Our Meteor University is the only one in the entire federation that doesn’t force its students to participate in the exploration or study of semi-explored or unknown Secret Realms!"
This single point was what truly captivated Li Heng!
Li Heng had learned that other Soul Energy Universities, to varying degrees, required students to have at least one expedition into a semi-explored Secret Realm per semester. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to graduate.
But Meteor University was different!
This was perfectly suited to Li Heng’s tastes. He almost nodded in agreement on the spot, but he still waited for his parents to return. He told them about it, and only after a bit of feigned "struggle" and "deliberation" did he make his final decision!
Li Guobin and his wife were also very supportive of Li Heng applying to Meteor University. For one, the couple had always supported their son’s wishes. For another, it was because of something else Lu Shengming had said.
"Our university strongly encourages students to participate in outdoor activities. We want them to get out of the classroom, because true knowledge comes from practice." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ
And just like that, the family of three came to hold Meteor University in high regard, and Li Heng decisively filled out his application.
As for Lu Shengming, although the final outcome was a little unexpected, he had successfully recruited Li Heng. All in all, his primary objective was met.
Li Heng hadn’t applied for the Weaponry Department’s Longsword specialization, choosing General Studies instead. Lu Shengming couldn’t quite wrap his head around that.
While Meteor University’s Longsword program wasn’t the best in the nation, its foundation and strength were by no means poor. In his eyes, it was a bit of a shame that a young man from the Celestial Rankings, hailed as a "Future Sword Dao Grandmaster," hadn’t chosen to specialize in the Longsword.
But since the recruitment was successful and his mission was complete, the result was a happy one for everyone involved.
In the end, Li Guobin and his wife invited Lu Shengming to stay for lunch. The family plied him with a lot of alcohol, but he showed no signs of being drunk. Li Heng was in a good mood too and, in a burst of bravado, drank a glass of beer.
(P.S. Minors should not consume alcohol!)
The meal lasted a full four hours. During that time, Zhang Yu Yao cooked several more dishes, essentially turning their lunch into dinner as well.
The reason it went on for so long was that while they were having their combined lunch and dinner, several more waves of visitors came knocking on the Li family’s door.
They were all teachers from various Soul Energy Universities, sent to recruit Li Heng.
They offered incredibly generous terms, no less than what Meteor University had, but when they learned Li Heng had already submitted his application, they could only leave with a sigh.
It was worth noting that the second-ranked Mingsi University also came to recruit Li Heng, and they even explicitly stated they could help him change his application.
At this, Lu Shengming nearly got into a fight with the Mingsi University teacher on the spot. But, unsurprisingly, Li Heng ultimately turned Mingsi University down.
The reason was that Mingsi University required students to enter a semi-explored Secret Realm at least once a month, and an unknown Secret Realm at least once a semester.
Thus, after four hours had passed in total, once Zhang Yu Yao had finished cleaning the living room and kitchen, Lu Shengming expressed his thanks and took his leave.
Before leaving, Lu Shengming made a point to remind Li Heng, "Li Heng, our university has some special regulations, so the semester starts quite early. A school bus will likely be sent to pick up new students in about a week."
He was reminding Li Heng that his "post-exam summer vacation" would only be a week long, so he should plan his time accordingly.
Li Heng didn’t mind the short vacation. For him, it just meant moving to a new environment to continue grinding Dungeons.
Besides, at university, after he finished grinding Dungeons, he could go for a walk in the evening breeze and check out all the cute, young female students on campus.
Most importantly, he wouldn’t have to worry about venturing into semi-explored Secret Realms. The more he thought about it, the more Li Heng found himself faintly looking forward to his university life, which would begin in just one week.
While Li Heng didn’t mind, Li Guobin and his wife suddenly felt reluctant to see him go. That evening, they spoke with him at length, reminding him to take good care of himself when he was on his own and to avoid drinking if he could.
Drinking leads to trouble!
After talking with his parents, Li Heng returned to his room. He thought for a moment, then decided to call Bai Shasha first.
He told her which university he had applied to and what his major would be.
When Bai Shasha heard that Li Heng had applied to Meteor University, a flurry of keyboard and mouse clicks came through the phone, followed by the flat-chested loli’s voice.
"I’ll be in your care then. I won’t hold you back!"
"You’re very strong. You’ve never held me back, Bai Shasha."
After he said this, the line went dead with a BEEP BEEP BEEP. He wasn’t sure if the flat-chested loli had heard him or not.
But that was a minor thing. After contacting Bai Shasha, Li Heng sent a text message to Bao Yaoyao. He started with a polite greeting.
Then, he told her the university and major he had chosen.
Ten minutes later, Li Heng received a reply from Bao Yaoyao. Her text read, "Boss, you gotta keep carrying me in the future!"
Li Heng replied, "We’ll support each other! Let’s do our best together!"
After replying, Li Heng didn’t look at his phone again. Instead, he locked his bedroom door and went to grind Dungeons.
Far away in Peony City, Bao Yaoyao was in her family’s training room, ceaselessly swinging a long saber as she practiced her blade techniques.
Although her text message to Li Heng had a joking tone on the surface, the look in her eyes grew firmer with every swing of her saber.
A few minutes later, Bao Yongyan burst into the training room with a stern expression and questioned Bao Yaoyao in a cold voice.
"I told you! Any other university in the federation is acceptable, but you are forbidden from applying to Meteor University or Netherworld University! Why did you still choose Meteor University?!"
