Chapter 106: Bao Family Matters
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Bao Family Matters
Bao Yaoyao had bathed, had her wounds treated and bandaged, and changed into a fresh set of clothes, but she remained in a daze. She had no desire to even taste the delicacies spread out on the table before her.
Bao Yaoyao’s behavior made her parents frantic. Their daughter, who normally loved to eat, showed no reaction to her favorite foods and was still lost in a daze. How could they not be worried?
When they first picked her up from the exam site, Bao Yaoyao’s parents had actually been quite happy. Their daughter had lasted until the final day of the secret realm exam, meaning the medicinal herbs she had gathered would be valid for scoring.
’Her score was sure to be good!’
But the scene they had imagined—their daughter, beaming as she reported her scores—never happened. Instead, she was blank-eyed and lost in a daze.
Her clothes were in tatters, hanging off her in shreds. It was a good thing she was draped in a piece of clothing from who-knows-where; otherwise, with her figure, she would have been completely exposed.
But right now, her parents were far more concerned about her condition than any potential indecency. Most importantly, she hadn’t said a single word the entire ride home.
Her expression hadn’t even changed when they applied the most painful type of medicine to her wounds.
’What on earth did our daughter go through in that secret realm?’ Bao Yaoyao’s parents desperately wanted to know.
"Yaoyao! Please, eat a little. These are all your favorites. There’s even some Flower Honey Cake!"
Mrs. Bao couldn’t stand it any longer. She felt she had to find out what had happened, but instead of asking directly, she decided to approach it through her daughter’s favorite food.
But Bao Yaoyao seemed not to have heard her mother’s question, her eyes remaining vacant.
However, it wasn’t entirely without effect. After all this time, they finally saw their daughter stir.
The couple finally saw the corners of their daughter’s mouth twitch, as if she were murmuring something.
Mrs. Bao, who was only a Great Soul Warrior, couldn’t discern what she was saying. She could only shoot a helpless glance at her husband, who was a Soul Energy Grandmaster.
Father Bao focused his gaze, staring intently at Bao Yaoyao’s lips. After about a minute, beads of sweat forming on his brow, he slowly uttered two words.
"Li Heng?!"
’Li Heng... who’s that?’
After Father Bao spoke those two words, the same question surfaced in both their minds, and they frantically searched their memories.
But after racking their brains, the couple found they had no memory of anyone named Li Heng.
This person wasn’t among Yaoyao’s classmates, her friends, or even the children of their own friends.
But Father Bao was certain. After listening intently for a full minute, he knew he hadn’t misheard. His daughter was repeating those two words over and over.
The couple concluded that this Li Heng must be someone their daughter met in the Desolate Moon Secret Realm. Furthermore, her current state was definitely connected to him!
Bao Yaoyao had reacted, and now they had a clue. The couple breathed a sigh of relief. It was a fragile connection, but it showed their efforts weren’t entirely in vain.
The couple tried a few more times to get through to her, but the only result was the same two words: Li Heng.
"Old Bao... this isn’t getting us anywhere. Maybe we should use a Healing Talisman?"
Seeing that they weren’t making any progress, Mrs. Bao suggested using a Healing Talisman, seeking her husband’s opinion.
Father Bao fell silent for a moment, deep in thought. After about thirty seconds, he nodded and retrieved a Spirit Healing Talisman from his spatial storage device.
A white light emanated from Father Bao’s palm. The Talisman between his fingers suddenly pulsed with a soft, green glow.
The soft green light enveloped Bao Yaoyao. It lasted for about thirty seconds before a crack appeared on the Healing Talisman in Father Bao’s hand, and the green glow vanished.
As the light from the Healing Talisman faded, focus and life returned to Bao Yaoyao’s eyes.
"Yaoyao? Yaoyao?"
The moment Mrs. Bao saw the focus return to her daughter’s eyes, she rushed over and embraced her.
Feeling her mother’s embrace, Bao Yaoyao finally snapped out of it. She hugged her mother tightly and began to wail, "Dad~! Mom~! I’m so miserable!"
Their daughter was finally reacting. Though they never wanted to see her cry, for the couple right now, this was an excellent outcome. They both nodded in relief.
Bao Yaoyao cried for a full five minutes before gradually calming down. Then, her voice still choked with tears, she told her parents, "Dad... Mom... I’ve never, ever had such terrible luck in my entire life! I really... I just had the absolute worst luck!"
The couple didn’t speak, letting her vent freely first. Only after she had mumbled a few fragmented sentences to herself did they ask the question that was burning in their minds.
"Who is Li Heng?"
Hearing Li Heng’s name, the composure Bao Yaoyao had just regained vanished. Her mood plummeted, and she was silent for several seconds before speaking.
"Li Heng was the only teammate I met after I entered the secret realm. We were together in there for six whole days! There was a mountain on the island, and an altar... The food he cooked was delicious... He’s incredible..."
’A mountain!’
’And an altar?!’
As they listened to the first part of their daughter’s story, the couple thought her experience sounded fairly normal. But when she mentioned a mountain and an altar on the island, their expressions changed drastically.
But they didn’t interrupt, waiting for their daughter to continue.
’He fought ten Tier One Soul Beasts all by himself?!’
’He single-handedly defeated a Tier Two High-Grade Soul Beast, an Ice Luan, and took it as his soul-bound pet?!’
’And this Li Heng is only a Soul Disciple!’
What kind of power was this? Bao Yaoyao’s parents had never heard of anything so outrageous from someone at that level.
’Even the most talented Descendants of Noble Families would have to be at least a Soul Warrior to accomplish that!’
Or rather... in Father Bao’s view, to achieve such a feat, one would need to be a Soul Warrior at the very minimum—and an exceptionally brilliant one at that.
He insisted on destroying the altar, chose to stay behind so their daughter could escape, and was still trying to destroy it even as the mountain began to collapse!
The couple knew that within the Desolate Moon Secret Realm, there were ten altars in total. Each altar was linked to a Tier Three High-Grade Soul Beast—a Mountain Spirit.
After their daughter finished her story, Bao Yaoyao’s parents looked at each other in utter disbelief. It wasn’t that they didn’t believe her; it was that everything about this Li Heng was simply beyond their comprehension.
’A mere Soul Disciple accomplished things that even a Soul Warrior couldn’t?!’
Father Bao seemed to realize something and asked, "He covered your retreat? This Li Heng... is he still alive?"
