Chapter 101: Test Flight and Anomaly
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Test Flight and Anomaly
Li Heng spent 100 Soul Energy points and entered the Wolf King Mountain Dungeon. The moment he arrived, he summoned the Ice Luan.
After the few days they had spent together in the Desolate Moon Islands, the Ice Luan’s intimacy with him had already reached 89 points. While that was still a long way from the maximum of 255, it was better than the 59 it started with.
Besides, this was a Dungeon. Li Heng wasn’t the least bit worried.
Li Heng had been quite envious when he’d ridden Lin Jiangang’s Ghostly Warhorse. He’d even fantasized about one day having a mount of his own—a really cool and impressive one.
The Ice Luan was about three meters tall, with a long, broad body. It could easily carry a person.
Li Heng’s heart leaped with excitement!
So, he decided to try a test flight right here in the Dungeon.
The reason he hadn’t attempted a test flight the moment he got the Ice Luan was because they had been in a mystic realm at the time.
If he had suddenly fallen from the Ice Luan’s back during a test flight there, he probably would have been a goner. After some thought, Li Heng had decided to play it safe. Whether it was a test flight or anything else, he would wait until he was inside a Dungeon.
After all, inside a Dungeon, Li Heng wasn’t even afraid of death. Naturally, he didn’t need to worry about other problems either.
His feud with the Blood Wolf King needed to be settled, but before that, he was definitely going to satisfy this little craving of his first. ℴ
Especially since this was a flying Soul Beast!
The Ice Luan’s feathers were all coated in a layer of frost, and the ones on its back were no exception. But when he touched them, they weren’t as hard as he’d imagined; they were still quite soft.
"In a bit, fly a little lower. Try not to go too high!"
Since the Ice Luan’s back was quite broad, Li Heng chose to sit on its neck. Otherwise, he would have had to stand on its back.
Standing on the back of a flying pet certainly looked cool, but for someone as inexperienced as Li Heng, the outcome was obvious: he would take a nasty fall.
Since this was his first time riding a flying Soul Beast, Li Heng still felt a bit uncertain, even though they were in a Dungeon.
But in the end, he still ordered the Ice Luan to try taking off.
The Ice Luan spread its wings, and Li Heng felt a cool breeze from both sides. As the wind swept past, he saw his line of sight slowly rise along with the Ice Luan’s ascent.
And just as he’d expected, with his complete lack of experience in flying on a beast, he found it difficult to keep his balance before the Ice Luan had even gained much altitude. Unable to sit steady, he could only cling tightly to the Ice Luan’s neck.
But Li Heng wrapping his arms tightly around its neck scared the poor bird witless. It thought its master was about to attack it, and in its terror, it flew even more erratically.
Since they weren’t flying very high, when Li Heng fell from the air, he only got a face full of dirt and was otherwise unharmed.
’Hmm... that actually felt okay?’
Although his first flight had ended very quickly—less than a minute after takeoff—Li Heng still thought the sensation of rising into the air was great.
No wonder there were so many people in movies and shows who could ride beasts or perform Sword Flight. The feeling really was amazing.
’I should try a few more times!’
AROOO~
AWOOO~
...
Just as Li Heng was about to mount the Ice Luan again, a series of howls echoed from Wolf King Mountain. He paused and looked toward the mountain.
He saw pack after pack of sturdy wild wolves and Blood Wolves charging madly down from Wolf King Mountain, sprinting toward him and the Ice Luan.
’What is this...?’
Ever since his Wolf Fang Bracelet had been upgraded and its deterrence against wolves had massively increased, these sturdy wild wolves would run like hell the moment they saw him. Even Blood Wolves in groups of three or less had to flee at the sight of him.
Now, after all this time, the Wolf Fang Bracelet had even been upgraded to the Blood Soul Wolf Fang Bracelet. Logically, these wild wolves and Blood Wolves should be even more terrified of him.
’So why are they all suddenly charging at me?!’
’Something’s not right here.’
This strange development inside the Dungeon made Li Heng give up on the idea of riding the Ice Luan again. He drew his Empty Cicada Longsword from his medium-sized Space Stone and faced the ever-growing wolf pack.
’Could it be... because of the Ice Luan? The pressure from a Tier Two High-Grade Soul Beast?’
If this were a mystic realm, he would have bolted at the sight of this. He wouldn’t be in any mood to stand around and analyze the situation.
After a moment’s thought, Li Heng arrived at a possible answer. He guessed it had to be because of the Ice Luan.
After all, compared to the last time he’d entered the Wolf King Mountain Dungeon, the only new addition was the Ice Luan, which must have triggered this "wolf stampede."
It had even drawn out the gravely injured Wolf King and the Blood Wolf King!
’Seriously... I bring one helper, and you call out your entire army? You even called on the former Wolf King, your mortal enemy?’
Li Heng was shocked as he stared at the "sea of wolves" in the distance, so dense it made his scalp tingle.
He had originally planned to bring his Soul Beast as backup, charge up Wolf King Mountain, clear out the dense packs of Blood Wolves, and confront the Blood Wolf King head-on. He’d thought he had a decent shot.
He might even have been able to clear the Dungeon.
But Li Heng had underestimated the Blood Wolf King’s shamelessness.
Li Heng considered himself a fairly cautious person, but he had to admit, he was impressed by the Blood Wolf King’s performance.
Li Heng sighed with emotion. ’I’ve learned something today,’ he thought. ’An entire pack of villains, not bad!’
AROOO~
AWOOO~
The Blood Wolf King didn’t know what Li Heng was thinking. All it knew was that the nearby Ice Luan filled it with immense pressure and fear.
It was a pressure so terrifying that it could feel it all the way from the summit of Wolf King Mountain. It knew, at least, that it couldn’t withstand that pressure on its own.
The howls of several hundred wolves were now incessant. Seeing this, Li Heng felt the pressure too, even though he was inside a Dungeon.
He had experience fighting a dozen, even several dozen, enemies at once.
But this Blood Wolf King’s idea of a greeting was to bring an entire mountain’s worth of reinforcements. Having hundreds of wolves laid out before him was, admittedly, a bit much to handle.
The sheer shock of their furious howls battered Li Heng relentlessly. He had to remind himself this was a Dungeon; otherwise, his only option would have been to run.
SCREEE~
In response to the sudden appearance of hundreds of wolves, the Ice Luan let out a sharp cry of its own. Li Heng saw blue threads of energy begin to emanate from its body.
The Ice Luan was preparing to unleash one of its Soul Energy Skills. As its master, Li Heng naturally couldn’t fall behind.
Even with hundreds of enemies before him, Li Heng resolutely tightened his grip on his Empty Cicada Longsword.
After all, ever since he had died once in a Dungeon, Li Heng had stopped worrying about his own safety!
"Ice Luan, stay in the air and just keep firing your Soul Energy Skills! Do not come down, no matter what! Don’t come down even if I die!"
Li Heng was certain that if he himself died in the Dungeon, it wouldn’t be a big deal. At worst, he would waste a Talisman charge or lose out on some rewards.
What he wasn’t sure about, however, was whether the Ice Luan could be "revived" if it died in the Dungeon.
He couldn’t bear to lose the Soul Beast he had worked so hard to obtain!
