Thinking of that, Chloe felt unbearably miserable all over again.

"You feel that bad? Chloe, if you really can’t take it, I’ll take you to the hospital."

Seeing Chloe in such pain, Lucas said he’d take her to the hospital.

"No need, Lucas, go make me a cup of 999 Weitai first. Let’s see if it helps?"

Chloe forced a smile and spoke.

If she let Lucas take her to the hospital, how was she supposed to escape?

"Okay, I’ll go make the medicine now."

Lucas didn’t suspect anything. He nodded and went to prepare the medicine.

As soon as he left, Chloe hurriedly got up, ready to run.

But then she thought it through—how could she actually escape?

If she jumped out the window from this height, even if she didn’t die she’d be half disabled.

If she wanted to get out, the only exit was through the living room, and Lucas was outside making the medicine. There’s no way he wouldn’t see her.

Chloe racked her brains, and in the end she came up with only one plan: knock Lucas out.

She quickly scanned the room, looking for any handy tool.

After looking everywhere, the only thing usable was the silicone floor squeegee in the master bathroom.

Nothing else was of any use.

Chloe grabbed the silicone squeegee and walked out, and suddenly remembered that earlier they’d opened a bottle of wine and hadn’t finished it; it should still be in the master bedroom.

She rushed back to look for the wine.

Unfortunately, just as she found the bottle, Lucas had already finished mixing the medicine and was bringing it in.

"Chloe, what are you doing with a bottle of wine?"

Chloe’s whole body jolted, her heart pounding wildly.

Her palm gripping the bottle was slick with sweat.

"Oh, I think it’s because I drank a few sips of this wine that my stomach started hurting. I suddenly remembered this bottle was opened a long time ago, so I wanted to check the production date. See if it’s expired."

Chloe’s mind spun at high speed, and she finally managed to come up with an excuse to cover it.

"Oh, let me see. Here, drink the medicine first."

Luckily, Lucas didn’t suspect anything. He walked over, trying to take the wine from Chloe’s hand to check the expiry date.

Chloe knew that if Lucas took the bottle, she’d have no weapon left to make a move.

One step, two steps—just six or seven steps and Lucas would reach her and take the wine.

She had to, within those seven steps, find the best position and smash Lucas unconscious—steady, fast, and ruthless.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

At that moment, Chloe was so tense she was about to snap.

She had never been this nervous in her life.

From the day she married Lucas till now, she had never done anything like this.

No—more precisely, in all the years they’d been together, she had never imagined this day would come.

Never imagined there would be a day she’d actually raise a hand against Lucas.

And while she hesitated that tiny moment, Lucas had already taken six steps; he was about to reach her, only one step left.

But it was also the perfect distance to strike.

Lucas lifted his foot to take that last step.

Chloe swallowed hard, and without any more hesitation, with a loud "clang" she swung the bottle in her hand straight at his head.

"Ah!"

Lucas screamed from the pain.

Chloe thought he’d pass out in the very next second.

But things almost never go the way you want.

Lucas’s head was split open, red wine mixed with bright blood dripping down in steady streams.

He didn’t black out.

Because of the injury, because of the pain, Lucas suddenly revealed his most vicious, twisted true face.

With wine and blood mixed together, his face looked even more terrifying and ghastly.

Like some grim specter out of Hell come to claim a life.

Chloe’s hand loosened instinctively; with a sharp "crack," the remaining half of the bottle slipped from her fingers and shattered on the floor.

"Fuck, are you out of your mind? You cheap bitch, you say you’re hurting, I go make you medicine, and I walk back in and you smash my damn head open with a bottle!"

Lucas wiped the blood from his head, lunged at her, clamped a hand around her neck, and slammed her back against the wall.

Chloe suddenly couldn’t breathe, her eyes almost rolling back. She reached out, using every ounce of strength she had to claw at Lucas’s hand choking her.

"Hiss! Ah!"

Lucas’s hand was instantly raked with several bloody welts from Chloe’s nails.

He cried out from the pain and let go of Chloe.

Seizing the chance, Chloe bolted.

But she’d barely taken two steps before Lucas yanked her back by the hair.

"You stinking cunt! You smash me and still dare to run! I’ve spoiled you way too much if you think you can pull this shit!"

Lucas dragged Chloe by the hair and slammed her down onto the bed.

Chloe felt like her whole scalp was on fire, her head spinning and vision swimming. Before she could even fight back, Lucas was already on top of her.

"Chloe, after all these years we’ve been together, I actually cherished you. But I didn’t expect you to spit on my kindness and dare lay a hand on me. Since you’re heartless, don’t blame me for having no mercy."

Lucas pinned her hands to the bed, snarling as he spoke.

"Pah! I’m heartless? Lucas Hughes, don’t think I don’t know what kind of dirty shit you’ve been pulling behind my back. Just for an attending physician position, just for money, you sold me out."

"And I even thought I owed you, thought I was the one in the wrong for cheating with another man on our wedding night. Turns out the whole thing was your setup. You’re the most shameless piece of trash in this world!"

"I really want to ask you nicely: after all these years we’ve been together, how could you do something so utterly goddamn inhuman? Huh?"

"No! Of course you’re capable of something this inhuman, because you don’t even count as a man anymore! You..."

Chloe laughed as she shouted, and just as she got to "you don’t even count as a man," Lucas slapped her hard across the face.

"You cheap bitch, why do you think I haven’t been able to be a real man for all these years? Every fucking reason goes back to you."

"It’s all because of you, you rotten whore, that I ended up like this, and you still have the nerve to lecture me. I’m gonna kill you today! No—I’m gonna make you beg me to kill you! Hahahahaha!"

Lucas burst into hysterical laughter, the corners of his mouth seeming to split upward, making him monstrously terrifying.

He casually fished out those two bottles of Drunken Dream Death from his pocket, intending to force them down Chloe’s throat.

Chloe knew exactly what that stuff was, so of course she fought it tooth and nail.

"Drink! Fucking bitch, you’re gonna drink every drop for me! Not a single drop left!"

Lucas squeezed Chloe’s neck viciously. She had no choice but to open her mouth.

But she knew that if she swallowed that stuff, she’d be completely finished today.

So she summoned every last bit of strength, tore one hand free.

With a sharp "crash," she slapped the two bottles of Drunken Dream Death out of Lucas’s hand and smashed them on the floor.

Lucas had never expected that even at this point, Chloe could still shatter those two bottles.

He froze for a second, then suddenly started laughing even more horribly.

"Hahahahaha, good, they’re broken! Since they’re broken, you can get the full experience of a fate worse than death!"

"I really want to see you wide awake while I ravage you, watch you writhe under me in agony, wishing you were dead!"
