My Ecchi Superpower System
Chapter 73| Unapproved Mission
Chapter 73: Chapter 73| Unapproved Mission
Sera looked at him for one more second with the expression that said she’d filed something and was choosing not to push on it.
Then went back to her cup.
Zane looked at the table in thoughts already calculating.
’The guest room,’ he thought. ’Third floor. East wing. Dex’s 2:45 AM wisdom sitting there like it knew this was coming.’
’Genuine,’ he thought. ’Not manufactured.’
He picked the communicator from the table and put it in his pocket.
Sera was still looking at him.
"You good?" she asked again.
"Absolutely Fine," Zane said, giving a minute smirk.
He drank his coffee still thinking.
’Private meeting,’ he thought. ’Non-academic context. Something Genuine.’
’How do you arrange a genuine private meeting without manufacturing a pretext,’ he thought.
『 You do not arrange it. You create the conditions for it to happen naturally and then let it happen. 』
’You’re reading me through the communicator now,’ Zane thought.
『 The system is always reading you. The communicator is simply a new interface. 』
’That’s not reassuring,’ Zane thought.
『 It was not intended to be. You have four days man. Just Focus. 』
They finished eating without further conversation. The cafeteria thinned out around them as the lunch hour wound toward its end.
Sera pushed back from the table first. Picked up her bag. Gave him a brief wave.
"Off to class," she said. "And stop overthinking whatever you’re overthinking."
She turned and walked out before he could respond.
Zane watched her go.
Then the system surfaced mentally.
『 Sera Dunne — Familiarity +1% 』
『 Current: 26% — Stranger tier 』
Zane looked at the notification.
’Been a while,’ he thought. ’Since that one moved.’
『 Consistent presence accumulates quietly. You have been showing up at the same table every day for six weeks. That counts for something even when nothing dramatic happens. 』
’26%,’ Zane thought.
He picked up his bag and headed toward the afternoon session.
’One thing at a time,’ he thought.
_ _
The afternoon session ran its usual rhythm.
Zane sat beside Maren in the new seating arrangement and ran the second quest through his head while Instructor Vael covered Sigil classification documentation procedures. Relevant, filing it under important, letting the rest run.
Non-academic context.
Not the training grounds. That was the most academic context he had with her.
Not the classroom. Not the practical complex. Not the secondary facility.
Somewhere else.
’Where do I spend time with Maren outside of academic contexts,’ he thought.
The answer came back immediately.
’I don’t,’ he thought. ’I spend time with her in the training grounds at 6:20 AM and in the classroom beside her and in corridors between those two things.’
’The training grounds is academic,’ he thought. ’The classroom is academic. The corridor is transition between academic things.’
’I have never spent time with Maren outside of an academic context,’ he thought. ’In six weeks.’
The system surfaced in his vision.
『 Correct. The second quest is designed to push the relationship beyond its current contextual limitations. This is intentional. 』
’You designed this to be hard,’ Zane thought.
『 The system designed this to be real. There is a difference. 』
He looked at the front of the room.
’Create the conditions naturally,’ he thought. ’Let it happen.’
’That means I need a reason to be somewhere non-academic,’ he thought. ’A real reason. Something that makes sense on its own.’
He thought about Maren.
What she did outside of academic contexts.
The lunch arrangement he still didn’t know the details of. The training grounds at hours he wasn’t there. The dormitory building he’d escorted her to once.
’I need to find a natural overlap,’ he thought. ’Something that puts us in the same non-academic space without manufacturing it.’
The session ended at 4:30 PM.
He packed his notebook.
Maren packed beside him.
"Walk back?" he asked.
She glanced at him.
"Yeah," she said.
They walked out of the classroom together after the afternoon session.
The campus at 4:30 PM doing its usual thing. Late afternoon light across the east courtyard, students dispersing in different directions, the building settling into its post-session rhythm.
They walked in comfortable silence through the main corridor and out into the open campus path.
At the junction where the path split. One direction toward the boys dormitory, the other toward the girls, they both slowed naturally.
Maren stopped.
Looked at him briefly.
"Later," she said.
"Later," Zane replied.
She turned toward the girls dormitory path.
He turned toward the boys.
They walked in opposite directions without looking back.
The specific comfortable parting of two people who had been doing this long enough that goodbyes didn’t need ceremony.
The system ticked.
『 SECOND QUEST — Time Remaining: 3 days 22 hours 41 minutes 』
’Three days,’ Zane thought. ’He’d forgotten he hadn’t responded to the second quest not like he had a choice,’
He kept walking in the direction of his dorm.
_ _
Zane arrived at his dorm room -Room 714- at exactly 9:00 PM. He had taken a detour and killed time at different recreational spots before finally thinking it was time to return home.
Dex was already asleep. Face down. Boots still on. Gerald wheezing at his standard interval.
Zane lay on his bed and looked at the ceiling.
The second quest still sitting in his vision. Unapproved. The timer running regardless. This was something he wanted to ask the system but he knew asking wont increase the timer so he kept mute.
’Four days,’ he thought. ’Approve it or don’t. The conditions don’t change. Maren is the primary candidate. The quest is asking for a private genuine meeting in a non-academic context.’
’Create the conditions naturally,’ he thought. ’Let it happen.’
He looked at the timer.
『 BOUND TARGET QUEST — Time Remaining: 5 days 22 hours 08 minutes 』
’Six days left on the main quest,’ he thought. ’Four days to complete the secondary quest before two of those get taken.’
He picked up his communicator.
Looked at the second quest notification.
Held his thumb over the approval option for a long moment.
Then he pressed it.
『 SECOND QUEST — APPROVED 』
『 Timer status: Already running since quest was issued 』
『 Time Remaining: 3 days 20 hours 35 minutes 』
『 System Note: Good. Now stop overthinking and start moving. Chicken. 』
Zane stared at the last word.
’The timer was already running,’ he thought.
『 Correct. Approval changes nothing about the timeline. It only changes your commitment to it. 』
’So I’ve already burned hours doing nothing,’ Zane thought.
『 You have been processing. The system generously classifies this as preparation. 』
’How generous,’ Zane thought.
He put the communicator face down on the desk.
Gerald wheezed.
