My Ecchi Superpower System
Chapter 108| A Graced Fall
Chapter 108: Chapter 108| A Graced Fall
Maren stared at him.
The disbelief hadn’t fully left her expression. Just recalibrated into something more focused. The calculating stillness coming back online after the genuine surprise had processed.
She pulled her hands back slowly from his.
Looked at them.
Then at him.
"B-rank speed," she said quietly. Not accusing. Just naming what she’d felt.
He said nothing.
She looked at him for a long moment. The model she’d been running of him clearly undergoing significant revision in real time.
Then she pulled back into her starting position.
"Again," she said.
He blinked. "Classes start soon."
"Again." Flat. Non-negotiable.
He looked at her.
’She’s not done processing,’ he thought. ’She needs to run it again to believe what she felt.’
He settled back into his stance.
She activated Overdrive.
Full output immediately. No gradual escalation this time. The 100% chain activation hitting her system and driving her forward in the specific burst that he’d watched from the observation rail during her trial match and had been filing ever since.
He activated Impact Breaker throttled to C-rank equivalent 50% alongside Overdrive B-rank 10%.
The combination hit differently from either alone. Overdrive stringing his speed and reactions into something sharper than usual while Impact Breaker’s backward push gave him the directional burst to close or create distance on demand. Everything running together at a ceiling C-rank Overdrive had never reached.
Maren caught the hand placement. He’d put them backwards before moving, the specific contact point orientation that didn’t match standard Sigil activation form. She clocked it but said nothing. Filed it under his unusual activation style. Just how he ran probably.
She’d be wrong about that.
He sidestepped her approach completely.
Clean. The gap between her hand and his arm wider than any previous dodge in the session.
She stopped.
Turned.
Looked at him with an expression he didn’t have a complete name for yet. Somewhere between genuinely unsettled and something that was doing its best not to be impressed and failing.
"That’s." She stopped. Started again. "That’s not the same Sigil you showed at trials."
"It developed," he said.
She looked at him for a very long moment.
’She’s going to have questions,’ he thought. ’Many questions. None of them convenient to answer before 8:30 AM.’
"Zane." Her voice had the specific quality of someone who had been patient about something for a long time and was running low. "At some point you are going to tell me everything."
He looked at her. "Six weeks. Same corner. Every morning. You’ve been watching me train longer than anyone else in this building."
She held his gaze. Processing that. The calculating stillness running whatever it always ran when he gave her something real that wasn’t the full picture.
"That’s not the same as knowing everything," she said.
"No," he agreed. "But it’s a start."
She looked at him for one more moment.
Then pulled back into her starting position.
"Again," she said.
She stared at him.
Then. "Okay." Arms dropping to her sides. The competitive energy stepping back. "You’re stronger. I’ve lost."
Something in Zane’s posture relaxed.
’She’s conceding,’ he thought. ’That’s a first.’
He straightened up. Shoulders dropping. Guard coming down.
Then..
In the nip of a second Overdrive activated at full output.
He didn’t register it until her foot was already sweeping.
No warning. No wind up. No activation tell he could clock because his guard was completely down and she’d waited specifically for that.
His footing went.
He registered it only as it happened. The specific sensation of both feet leaving the ground simultaneously with gravity taking place.
’She played me,’ he thought. On the way down.
He registered it half a second too late.
His footing went.
He went down. The specific backwards fall of someone whose center of gravity had been removed without warning. His hands came up instinctively in the fraction of a second before impact.
Maren came down with him.
The momentum from her sweep carrying her forward into the fall. Her body landed across his, her hand catching his shoulder for balance, the fitted training gear pressing against him in the specific way it pressed against things when physics was involved.
And his hands, which had come up instinctively, landed exactly at a not so familiar organ.
He hadn’t even realized what he’d grabbed until his fingers tightened slightly.
Then he heard the small, involuntary moan that escaped her.
"Uhmm eh Zane". Maren moaned in an ecstatic tone.
Zane froze.
He felt the warmth through the training gear.
Then a silence that lasted approximately two seconds.
He looked down.
Then up at her face directly above his.
Her expression had gone through the now-familiar rapid cycle and landed on fully red. The deepest version yet. The training gear, the morning light, the specific proximity of the situation making it somehow more pronounced than any of the previous times.
She didn’t move immediately.
Neither did he.
The system surfaced.
『 GACHA METER: 52% → 58% 』
『 Fill source: Physical contact with bond target — elevated fill rate applied — bond depth bonus +10% active 』
『 Bond depth update: 58% → 61% — THRESHOLD CROSSED 』
『 Gacha meter fill rate from Maren activity updated: +20% now active 』
’61%,’ he thought. ’She crossed the 60% threshold.’
’And the Gacha meter at 58%,’ he thought. ’Getting close.’
Maren was still directly above him.
Still red.
"Ecchi hero," she said. Very quietly. The specific tone of someone who had used that phrase before and meant it differently each time.
He looked at her.
"It wasn’t intentional," he said.
"It never is," she said.
"This time genuinely."
"That’s what you said last time."
He looked at her.
She looked at him.
Neither of them were in any particular hurry to address the situation physically.
Then..."You squeezed." Flatly.
"I was breaking the fall," he said.
"With both hands," she said.
"It was Instincts," he replied.
She stared at him for one more second.
Then pushed herself up. Stood. Straightened her training gear with the practiced efficiency of someone who had been straightening training gear after various incidents with this specific person and had developed a routine for it.
He sat up.
Looked at his hands.
The system surfaced.
『 System Note: The system notes the host’s instincts are developing in a very specific direction. The system considers this a favourable development. 』
’Obviously it wasn’t my fault,’ he thought.
『 Obviously. 』
’But the name doesn’t look bad,’ he thought. ’Ecchi hero.’
『 The system agrees. Code Zero — Ecchi Hero. Has a ring to it. 』
’Don’t push it,’ he thought.
Maren had picked up her water bottle. Was drinking with the specific composed energy of someone who had decided the last two minutes had not happened and was moving on by sheer force of will.
He stood up.
Brushed off his training gear.
Checked the time.
8:05 AM.
"Time for classes I guess," he said.
"Yeah, classes," she confirmed. Without turning around.
They picked up their bags.
Walked out of the training grounds together.
The Friday morning campus doing its thing around them.
Neither of them mentioned the fall.
Neither of them mentioned the hands.
Neither of them mentioned about the ecchi hero.
But when the path curved toward the academic block and their shoulders were close enough to almost touch , Maren spoke.
"You still haven’t told me everything." Not accusatory. Just present.
He looked at the path ahead. "I don’t know about that."
She glanced at him sideways. A beat of silence between them that had texture in it.
"Get prepared soon," she said finally.
He kept walking. "Soon..."
The system stayed quiet.
For once it had nothing unusual to add.
