Chapter 627: Chapter 57: Lu Xuan of the Usurped Destiny, Descending on Kongtong

The entire megalopolis fell deathly silent.

Countless citizens gazed—some with reverence, some with admiration, some with fear—at the Giant Bull descending from the heavens. They watched as this immortal being from the Holy Land transformed into a man and stood before them all.

"Wow, it’s the legendary Great Sage Who Pacifies Heaven!"

Chen Xiaoxi grinned, speaking to Lu Xuan as if they were old friends:

"I wonder if we’ll get chosen..."

Lu Xuan gave Chen Xiaoxi a deep look, suppressing the urge to obliterate her on the spot. ’What is Fu Xi trying to do, lurking here?’ he wondered. ’And when did she arrive?’

As he pondered, Lu Xuan offered an inscrutable smile.

"There shouldn’t be a problem."

Just then, the Ox Demon King began to speak in an unhurried tone:

"As is tradition, three individuals from this city shall be chosen to enter the Holy Land and receive Cultivation. Priority will be given to those with both excellent character and aptitude. Furthermore..."

He announced coolly, his words like an imperial edict:

"The East City Wang Family, in their bid to enter the Holy Land, have eliminated their rivals and secretly assassinated other prodigies. Their crimes are unforgivable. Forty-seven members of the Wang Family will be punished for one hundred years. The fourteen ringleaders will all be executed. Let this be a warning to you all. Do not make the same mistake."

An uproar swept through the crowd. The Wang Family was a great clan with an Immortal in their ranks, one of the most powerful in all of East City, and yet...

Lu Xuan frowned. Heaven and earth conveyed the truth to him, and he immediately understood. The Wang Family... the former Langya Wang Family...

His feelings were complicated, but he said nothing. If they had done wrong, then they deserved to be punished. It was only right.

Lu Xuan sighed softly.

After the commotion died down, the Ox Demon King raised a hand slightly, and the entire square fell silent once more.

He said coolly,

"Next, we shall select those who will enter the Holy Land."

As he spoke, a brilliant golden light appeared in the eyes of this Great Saint of the Demon Race from the Celestial Realms, and he scanned the entire crowd.

It was a Divine Technique used to discern aptitude.

As his gaze fell upon each person in the square, a glow would manifest around them—some bright, some dim. The brighter the glow, the better the aptitude.

The first person he looked at was Li Dabao, standing at the edge of the crowd. The glow on his body was as bright as the full moon. The Ox Demon King didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’This little rascal... he must have sold his ticket...’

After a sweeping glance, the Ox Demon King’s gaze landed on Chen Xiaoxi. He was visibly moved. Her body was pure and her bones clean, as if divinely crafted. The brilliant light radiating from her was almost on par with Li Dabao’s!

She, too, possessed supreme talent.

Then he saw the young Daoist next to Chen Xiaoxi, the one who had probably bought the ticket from Li Dabao, and his breath hitched.

An incandescent light filled the Ox Demon King’s entire field of vision.

He saw... a Great Sun.

Ten thousand, a hundred thousand, a million Great Suns!

’Aptitude for the Daluo realm?’

’Or... aptitude for the Dao Fruit?!’

A chill exploded down the Ox Demon King’s spine, and his head swam. Ecstasy was his first reaction, followed immediately by sheer terror!

’Talent like this would have been discovered long ago! It would never have remained hidden until today!’

’This Daoist... is trouble.’

’Big trouble.’

He discreetly sent a voice transmission to Ancient Kongtong Mountain, then smiled and announced:

"We have found our candidates for today. Chen Xiaoxi and Li Dabao. For now, it is just these two. The third spot will require a character assessment, and someone from the Holy Land will come to investigate."

Another uproar broke out. Many sighed in disappointment, while most looked around, trying to find the two lucky individuals who had been chosen.

At the back of the crowd, the sly-looking boy grinned and puffed out his chest, as if he had known the result all along. He was just about to step forward,

when he saw Uncle Niu wave his hand and fly away into the sky, taking a pretty girl and the Daoist who had bought his ticket with him...

’Hey, I’m the real Li Dabao!’

The smile froze on Li Dabao’s face, his expression a mask of utter confusion.

.........

「By the time they reached the Kongtong Immortal Realm, the sun was already high in the sky.」

"Wait here quietly."

The Ox Demon King gave the order, leaving Lu Xuan and Chen Xiaoxi at the foot of the mountain before heading up by himself.

Soon, the chosen ones from the other three cities were brought over. There were three from each city, all young boys and girls.

After giving Lu Xuan an impassive glance, the True Phoenix, Sha Wujing, and the Kuiniu also went up the mountain and disappeared from sight. The dozen or so youths began to chat amongst themselves.

"Hi everyone! My name is Chen Xiaoxi, and this is my friend, Li Dabao."

Chen Xiaoxi spoke cheerfully, acting no different from any other girl in her early teens. The young prodigies all exchanged names.

Some were geniuses from common backgrounds, but most were descendants of great clans. After all, due to their bloodlines, the probability of producing a genius was higher in a great clan.

A young girl named Cao Ruoyan came over and asked curiously:

"You’re from East City, right? How come there are only two of you?"

Lu Xuan lifted his eyes and smiled gently.

"I’m not sure about that. For now, only Xiaoxi and I have been chosen."

"Is that so?"

Cao Ruoyan asked with great interest,

"I’ve never been to East City! Is it fun there, Brother Dabao?"

"It’s alright. The four major cities are all pretty similar, I imagine."

Lu Xuan answered calmly. In his current state, he already possessed a partial trait similar to [Omniscience].

Anything he wished to know, as long as it did not involve a great secret, heaven and earth would spontaneously reveal to him.

In his eyes, the Celestial Myriad Realms were crystal clear and transparent. Aside from matters related to those few Fellow Daoists of his, there was almost nothing he could not see through.

Cao Ruoyan stroked her chin, her eyes curving into a smile.

"Oh, really? I’ll have to go see East City when I get the chance. It’s the only one of the four major cities I haven’t been to..."

After a pause, she turned to a Daoist and asked:

"Daxi, what kind of person do you think Master Yan will be?"

The Daoist, Li Daxi, shook his head.

"I don’t know either. I suppose... he must be a very strict person, right?"
