My Desire System: The More They Want Me, The Stronger I Get
Chapter 93: The Fourth Shard
The icy chamber groaned beneath the crushing weight of the polar sea, sending deep fractures spiderwebbing through the ancient obsidian floor as brine hissed through the ceiling.
Beside the ruined altar, Shard 4 spun in slow, erratic rotations, throwing diamond-sharp purple refractions across the frost.
"The system is offering an automatic assimilation cascade," Leo said, leaning his weight against the chipped pedestal while wiping cold sweat from his jaw.
"Step back from that altar right now, Leo," Luna commanded, placing herself directly between him and the dais with the Lotus Spine planted firmly against the flagstones.
"Luna, the countdown is ticking down to thirty minutes," Leo answered, looking down at his trembling, soot-stained fingers.
"I do not care if the countdown is ticking down to thirty seconds," Luna said, her hazel eyes flashing with unyielding clinical authority.
"Your resting cardiac rhythm is barely sixty beats a minute, and the micro-tears in your vascular lining have not finished sealing after that seizure."
She held up the portable diagnostic monitor, tapping the pulsing amber indicator with a clean silver probe.
"Look at this cellular readout, Leo."
"If you force the shard into unhealed pathways, the kinetic feedback will rupture your heart muscle before the core synchronizes."
’She is entirely right, and pushing through unearned feedback almost killed me during the trial in District 7.’
"I am not taking an unearned shortcut," Leo said, looking past her shoulder toward the shadows pooling along the vault perimeter.
"Sierra, is the syndicate transmitter still broadcasting telemetry to Kayser’s offshore receiver?"
"I severed their primary data umbilical forty seconds ago, shadow boy," Sierra answered, stepping out of the gloom with a sharp flick of her wrist.
She reeled in a gossamer thread of phase-wire, tossing an encrypted obsidian chip lightly in her gloved palm.
"Whatever happens in this chamber stays strictly between the people standing in it."
"No corporate bids on the black market?" Leo asked.
"No corporate bids, no broker recording, and no hidden telemetry leaking to the mainland news syndicates," Sierra confirmed with a satisfied smirk.
Cassian stood near the entry archway, his heavy composite gauntlet humming as optical scanners locked onto the floating crystal.
"The baseline energy signature of an unbonded Genesis Shard has never been recorded by modern human science," Cassian said, stepping forward.
He raised his wrist monitor, aligning three focal lenses directly with the pulsating geometric facets of the fourth shard.
"Give me three seconds of calibrated telemetry during the initial contact, and Rook Industries can model the fleet shield frequency."
"Shut the cameras down, Cassian," Leo said, meeting the detective’s dark, calculating eyes without blinking.
"This is not corporate research, and my body is not a testing ground for your engineering department."
"A complete mathematical model of that shard could save millions of lives across the eastern seaboard, Marsh," Cassian argued, his tone flat and persistent.
"And turning my nervous system into public property will get us both killed right here," Leo countered firmly.
’He wants data to build weapons, but the All-Spark answers to blood and consent, not proprietary corporate algorithms.’
Cassian held Leo’s gaze for several quiet seconds while crushed ice sifted down from the cracking ceiling above them.
"Sensors dark, Marsh," Cassian said, clicking the master toggle on his forearm to power down every external lens.
The detective turned toward his radio collar with disciplined efficiency.
"Iron Regent, hold the structural load above the extraction corridor before the tremors reach the service elevator."
"I am already holding half the continent on my shoulders, Cassian," Elias Forge grumbled over the channel, his heavy silver armor venting superheated steam.
"Take your time, kid, but remember the ocean above our heads weighs approximately four million tons."
"If this ceiling collapses, even my titanium plating will look like a crushed soda can on the ocean floor."
"Thank you for the encouragement, Forge," Leo called out dryly.
"Any time, kid, that is what billionaire philanthropy is all about," Forge shouted back over the groan of straining hydraulic pistons.
Leo turned back to the healer, drawing in the freezing air until the tremors in his chest subsided.
"Luna, give me medical clearance."
"Your cellular pathways are stabilized, Leo, but you must let the energy circulate naturally through the core."
"Do not fight the influx, and do not try to protect me from the natural harmonic backlash."
"I hear you," Leo murmured, stepping onto the dais.
He reached out his right hand, closing his fingers around the jagged crystalline edges of the fourth shard.
A blinding flare of ultraviolet lightning tore through his palm, traveling up his arm in an agonizing wave of heat.

His knees slammed against the freezing stone as cosmic ether flooded his veins like molten glass.
’The foreign infection is waking up, but seventy percent pathways gives me the leverage to pin it down.’
"Breathe through it, Leo," Luna said, resting the tip of the Lotus Spine against his shoulder to guide the circulation.
"I have it," Leo gasped, feeling the ancient alien frequency at his core collapse under the sudden influx of stellar power.
A deafening crack echoed through the vaulted ceiling as a five-ton slab of reinforced bedrock sheared away from the wall.
The massive block plummeted directly toward the narrow passage where the final group of resort workers waited.
"Get clear of the doorway," Bekka shouted from the stairs, her gauntlets flashing with warning gusts.
Leo surged upward, thrusting both hands toward the descending stone before conscious thought could intervene.
[ Umbral Kinetics Stage 3: Gravitational Hold Active ]
A web of dense black gravity lines erupted from his palms, catching the falling monolith ten feet above the floor.
"Leo, gravity hold cannot sustain that mass for more than ten seconds without core depletion," Luna warned, bracing his side.
"I know," Leo gritted out, feeling his ether drain at terrifying speed.
A streak of crimson and silver flashed across the chamber as Iron Regent threw himself beneath the suspended stone.
"Let an old engineer share the torque, kid."
Forge extended both armored arms, firing high-output anti-gravity repulsors directly into the center of the shadow web.
"Move the evacuees through the lower service tunnel right now," Bekka shouted, sweeping wind currents to hurry people forward.
"Go, go, do not look back at the ceiling," one of the rescue wardens called out, ushering the frightened staff through the arch.
Sierra darted past the pedestal, snatching a glowing obsidian memory core from the console base.
"I grabbed the encrypted annex to Kayser’s ledger, so we now have every buyer on Earth who purchased Vorn hardware."
"Did you get the weapon manifests too?" Leo asked, dropping his hands as Forge cut his thrusters.
"Every single serial number, shadow boy," Sierra answered with a wink.
"Consider it my personal tip for saving the billionaire class from their own black-market auction."
Tidemarch lowered her trident at the far archway, summoning a curtain of compressed brine to seal the chamber.
"The sea shelf is collapsing behind us, and international salvage protocol declares this vault condemned."
"Can your water barrier buy us three minutes to reach the upper runway?" Bekka asked, checking her compass.
"The ocean obeys the law of mass, Officer Hayes, but it will hold until your boots clear the stairs," Tidemarch answered.
Meridian adjusted her velvet collar, her pale face tight as she leaned against a cracked pillar.
"My spatial doors are holding, but my morning memories remain slightly frayed around the edges."
"Did you lose something important, Meridian?" Leo asked, stepping onto the stairs beside her.
"I can no longer remember the tune of the melody my mother sang to me when I was a child," the magician murmured softly.
"A harsh price, but four thousand people are breathing because of those nine seconds."
"We will not waste them," Leo said quietly, feeling the silver frequency humming beneath his skin.
"The shard gave me the shield flaw, Cassian."
Cassian tapped his wrist chronometer, displaying a glowing red countdown that illuminated the dim tunnel.
"The flagship aperture is reaching terminal charge above our district."
"Thirty minutes remaining on the operational clock," the detective announced with flat, urgent precision.
Redline sprinted into the corridor, skidding to a halt on the icy floor while tossing a glowing marker beacon in his hand.
"Hey, quick question for the room: has anyone here ever tried to race a military teleport gate across the continent?"
"Are you offering to run interference, speedster?" Bekka asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I am offering to break the sound barrier so hard the alien sensors turn inside out," Redline laughed, tossing the beacon high.
