My Desire System: The More They Want Me, The Stronger I Get
Chapter 27: Clinic Under Siege
Sirens wailed in the distance as plumes of black smoke poured from the shattered front entrance of the District 9 clinic.
Two armored gun-trucks were parked across the sidewalk, their mounted guns chewing through the facade with deafening bursts of lead.
Inside the trembling building, twenty syndicate enforcers in tactical vests methodically kicked open examination rooms, destroying medical equipment with short rifle bursts.
"Find the nurse!" an enforcer barked, his voice muffled by a gas mask as he kicked over an overturned stretcher.
"Boss Flint wants the vitality healer in chains, and everyone else in this rathole gets put down!"
Down in the fortified basement pharmacy, Luna leaned her back against the reinforced security door with her palms pressed against the lock.
An aura of green-gold light radiated from her skin, sealing thermal fractures across the barrier.
The warm energy simultaneously mended the shrapnel wounds of three patients huddled behind the medicine racks.
"Stay quiet, please," she whispered, her chest tensing as concussive footsteps vibrated the ceiling above their heads.
"Someone is coming for our rescue, I know he is."
"Nurse Luna, the door hinges are glowing orange," one of the elderly patients sobbed, pointing a trembling finger at the warping frame.
"They brought plasma torches from the rail yards, they are going to burn right through us!"
"Keep your heads down and breathe slowly," she answered, deepening the flow of vitality ether until a golden barrier coated the inner doorway.
"He promised he would protect this clinic, and he has not broken a promise yet."
Upstairs in the lobby, crackling high-voltage electricity tore through the haze as dual chain-whips shattered the triage desk into burning kindling.
"Volt-Fang" Raiko strode through the haze, his cybernetic jaw whirring as 100,000 volts of blue lightning coiled around his forearms.
"Bring the breaching charges to the basement hatch!" Raiko ordered, his yellow artificial optics scanning the scorched tiles for thermal traces.
"If the door does not open in thirty seconds, blow the hinges and drag her out by her hair!"
Outside on the rain-swept street, a sudden drop in temperature silenced the wind as a streak of pure darkness descended from the rooftops.
Leo landed behind the first truck without making a sound, the phantom greaves around his legs dissolving into silent wisps of shadow.
His gaze swept across the perimeter, cataloging four rooftop snipers, eight street-level riflemen, and two machine-gun nests within half a second.
’Time to clear the perimeter,’ he thought, reaching toward the nearest gun-truck with his right hand.
He activated Umbral Kinetics, wrenching the tailgate clean off its hinges and sending it spinning through the air like a guillotine.
The flying projectile cleaved both street snipers before they could turn around, crushing their chest rigs and pinning them against the facade.
Before the remaining gunners could adjust their targeting beams, Leo crossed thirty yards in a single Shadow-Step glide.
He drew his weapon from the Phase-Catalyst sheath, the blade hissing with spatial vibration as it blurred through the night air.
The crescent edge cut through three rifle barrels and the reinforced body armor behind them without meeting a fraction of resistance.
The spatial flicker trait severed the weapons at the molecular seam, sending smoking gun parts clattering across the wet ground.
"What was that?!" a gunner screamed, stumbling backward into the headlights as dark tendrils rose from the shadows under his feet.
Leo stepped through the man’s blind spot, delivering an open Void-Pulse palm strike into the center of his chest.
The concentrated pulse of shadow ether detonated inside the man’s ribcage, sending him crashing twenty feet through the clinic display frame.
"Hostile in the perimeter!" the truck gunner roared, desperately swinging his twin-linked turret around to bear on the entrance.
"Fire! Erase the entire courtyard!"
Leo did not even glance at the rotating barrels: he raised his left hand, letting a filament of shadow ether latch onto the turret’s ammunition belt.
With a sharp telekinetic yank, the linked rounds jammed the firing chamber, causing the entire breach block to detonate in a shower of sparks.
He vaulted over the smoking hood, his blade drawing a silent silver arc that severed the turret mount and sent the gunner tumbling onto the pavement.
Inside the building, the sudden elimination of the outer guard squad triggered immediate panic among the breach team.
"The perimeter team is down!" a spotter yelled from the lobby, racking the bolt of his automatic shotgun with trembling hands.
"It is the Ghost, he is tearing through the transport trucks outside!"
Raiko sneered, snapping his electrified chain-whips against the floor tiles to send twin arcs of lightning dancing across the corridor.
"Let the slum rat come," the cybernetic hunter laughed, his throat synth vibrating with sadistic excitement.
"My coils eat kinetic energy for breakfast, and I have been waiting to fry his vigilante mask into melted slag."
Leo walked through the shattered lobby doors, his dark coat billowing as rain dripped from the edge of his drawn blade.
Six enforcers opened fire simultaneously, filling the narrow hallway with a hail of armor-piercing rounds.
Instead of dodging, Leo channeled his enhanced kinetic tolerance, letting his sub-dermal chitin plates absorb the scattered impacts while deflecting the main volley with the flat of his blade.
Every deflected slug generated a ringing crack of displaced air, feeding fresh charge into the weapon’s spatial edge.
He closed the distance in two blurring strides, sweeping the blade in a horizontal crescent that sheared through four enforcers before they could reload.
The remaining two guards dropped their weapons in terror, scrambling toward the basement stairs with desperate shouts.
Before they could reach the stairwell, a pair of shadow spikes erupted from the floorboards, impaling their tactical vests and pinning them to the ceiling.
"Raiko," Leo called out, his voice echoing through the burning hallway with terrifying calm.
"Your contract in District 9 is officially terminated."
A sudden concussive roar shook the ceiling above him as Raiko dropped through the second-floor ventilation shaft like a falling boulder.
The cyber-chimera hunter whipped both arms forward, sending two glowing hundred-thousand-volt chains whistling through the air with supersonic speed.
The electrified links coiled tightly around Leo’s arms and torso, biting into the fabric of his coat and searing the air with blinding blue sparks.
"Got you, little ghost!" Raiko roared triumphantly, planting his mechanical feet into the floorboards as high-voltage current surged into the coils.
The electrical pressure scorched the floor beneath them, locking Leo’s muscles in a grid of blue lightning.
Down at the end of the hall, two surviving enforcers slapped magnetic breaching charges onto the pharmacy door where Luna was trapped.
"Arm the timer!" Raiko shouted over the roar of the electric current, his eyes blazing with manic glee as he pumped more voltage into the coils.
"Let us see if your little nurse can heal herself after twenty pounds of high explosives turn that basement into dust!"

The countdown timer on the breaching charges blinked red, chiming with a high-pitched beep that counted down the final five seconds.
Leo gritted his teeth against the searing heat, his eyes gleaming with purple fire as the All-Spark began to drink the voltage straight from the chains.
