Chapter 69: Capital Management Company
Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Capital Management Company
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line before Bai Lu spoke, her voice slow and firm. "Dr. Hou, if Chen Xiao is no longer involved, then let’s just pause the project. We’ll consider negotiating with new business partners."
Bai Lu hung up without another word.
Staring at Hou Fei’s livid face, Chen Xiao sneered. "President Hou, you were right about one thing. Sometimes, you can’t be too arrogant. You might feel great about yourself, but other people just see you as a nobody."
With that, he walked straight out of the office.
As he was leaving, he heard the sound of a teacup shattering on the floor behind him. He didn’t look back.
Back at his desk, Ma Jing noticed his dark expression and leaned in to ask, "Brother Chen Xiao, what’s wrong? What did President Hou want with you?"
Chen Xiao rolled his eyes at her. "You have the nerve to ask? President Hou said my OKRs and daily reports were garbage. You’re the one who did them!"
Ma Jing said angrily, "He called me in, too! He said my plans were amateurish and worthless. To hell with him!"
Chen Xiao couldn’t help but laugh. "You’re right. To hell with him. He doesn’t know his own place!"
Ma Jing chimed in, "Exactly! He’s only been here a few days and he’s already throwing his weight around. Even President Feng is so much more down-to-earth!"
By the afternoon, the news had spread throughout the office: Chen Xiao and President Hou had gotten into a fight in his office, and a cup was smashed.
Some people sided with Chen Xiao. They thought he was normally friendly and polite, and he wouldn’t have acted that way unless something major had happened.
Others sided with Hou Fei, believing that no matter what, the man was the deputy general manager. He deserved respect, and you should never, ever argue with your superior.
There was no way to hide this from Feng Feifei. She took the matter very seriously. A conflict between her CTO and the company’s top salesperson could become a huge problem if not handled properly.
But both of them were still fuming. She decided to let them cool off before speaking with them individually.
Chen Xiao couldn’t stand being in the office any longer. Just then, Manager Liao called to ask when he was coming to take possession of the 28th floor of Yunfeng Building.
Manager Liao was numb with shock. This President Chen was truly something else. Every time, he’d acquire an entire office floor without making a sound.
The 28th floor was the best one in the building, which the developers had originally kept for themselves. It was fully furnished to the highest specifications, but for some unknown reason, no one had ever moved in.
And now, President Chen had taken it over.
Following a familiar path, Chen Xiao went to get the property deed from Manager Liao, then followed him up to the 28th floor to inspect the space.
The decor was several notches above Central Inspection’s—it could only be described as luxurious. The Aerial Garden on the roof was even thrown in as a bonus.
It was filled with all sorts of flowers and plants, and there was even a grand Observatory. There was also a massive private suite with its own kitchen, perfect for entertaining distinguished guests. It was incredibly classy, though it meant he’d have to hire a private chef.
’This would be the perfect place for the capital management firm I’m planning to set up with Zhao Xiangjun’s special fund,’ Chen Xiao thought. With that in mind, he headed downstairs to Central Inspection.
Li Guoqiang was listening to a report from his subordinates when he heard Chen Xiao had arrived. He immediately sent them out. Hosting Chen Xiao was more important.
When Chen Xiao explained his purpose for visiting, Li Guoqiang learned that he had also bought the 28th floor. He was secretly stunned. ’President Chen’s financial power is simply immeasurable!’
But what Chen Xiao said next sounded like something out of a fairy tale.
Chen Xiao asked for his help in registering a capital management firm, one that would primarily focus on equity and venture capital investment management.
Li Guoqiang was taken aback. A capital management firm wasn’t something you could start with just a few million, or even tens of millions. He asked Chen Xiao, "President Chen, the registered capital...?"
"Eight hundred million, fully paid-in."
’Zhao Xiangjun’s special fund has 900 million. I’ll start with 800 million!’
Li Guoqiang took a sip of water and immediately choked on it. He coughed for a good while, his face turning red, before repeating, "A fully paid-in capital of eight hundred million?"
For a capital management firm, 800 million wasn’t an astronomical sum. What was terrifying was that this young man in front of him was putting up the entire amount by himself.
’And look at him, talking about 800 million as if it were eight bucks. So casual, so nonchalant.’
’I have to revise my impression of Chen Xiao up by several orders of magnitude. How many people nowadays can pull out 800 million in cash just like that?’
’No wonder he wasn’t concerned about the bit of rent I owed. To him, that amount of money was probably just pocket change.’
This was a simple matter. Li Guoqiang readily agreed, promising to have the company registered within the week.
After leaving Li Guoqiang’s office, Chen Xiao faced his most pressing problem: finding a general manager for the new firm. He didn’t know anyone like that in his social circle, which was a major headache.
He had just asked Li Guoqiang, but he didn’t have any suitable candidates to recommend either.
’Looks like I’ll have to go through a headhunting firm,’ he thought.
DING! [Mission Issued: Find a suitable General Manager for the capital management company.]
[Mission Reward: Wisdom Eye (Allows you to see the return on investment for any project).]
’A mission and reward like this? This is a god-tier skill! With Wisdom Eye, the capital management firm is going to soar!’
’Then I can choose to invest in industries that can be empowered by AI, which will in turn generate business orders for Dr. Feng. That means I can earn a huge bonus for myself.’
’This way, money will make money, which in turn will make more money... an endless cycle of profit!’
’The key is finding the right person, but I don’t have a single lead right now!’
Xu Wu was also having a frustrating afternoon.
Two of her high school classmates were coming to Jiangzhou to see her, and she dreaded class reunions more than anything.
She had grown up poor and was often looked down on by her classmates, especially the other girls, who would mock her for never having new clothes.
Fortunately, Xu Wu was a natural beauty with a strong competitive streak. As she got older, she became the top student in her middle school, not to mention the campus belle.
She was well-protected by her teachers and the male students, which earned her the envy, jealousy, and hatred of many of the other girls.
In high school, she was even more exceptional, consistently placing in the top three of the entire school on every exam. She later went on to attend Qingbei with outstanding scores.
At Qingbei, she completed a combined bachelor’s and master’s program in Economics.
One would think that someone so accomplished would have a smooth career path after graduation, but that was not the case.
In today’s society, it is both easy and difficult for a beautiful woman to succeed.
If you’re willing to play the game, success comes easily. If not, it’s nearly impossible.
After graduation, she worked for several large corporations. With her management skills and professional expertise, her superiors appreciated her and were willing to promote her, but they always hinted that she had to accept certain... unspoken conditions.
But the fiery-tempered Xu Wu couldn’t stand for it. As a result, she never lasted more than three months at any company before resigning.
To this day, her career has been one setback after another.
She thought of her parents, who had endured a lifetime of hardship, pinning all their hopes on her. They had hoped that through her education, she could change her own fate and that of their family.
Her heart ached at the thought, and she often spent her nights tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
