Chapter 373: Chapter 226: Chen Xiao is the Only One (2)
When he arrived at the office, the receptionist, Qiao Xin, saw him and remarked in surprise, "Brother Chen Xiao, you look much better today! You don’t have that sexually frustrated look you’ve had for the past few days!"
Chen Xiao was exasperated. ’I can’t tell if she actually figured it out or if she’s just joking!’
The other receptionist joked, "Xinxin, shouldn’t that be on you? How have you been taking care of him?"
A pack of she-devils. Outnumbered and outgunned, Chen Xiao fled in defeat.
When he reached his office, Ma Jing came over and eyed him up and down.
Chen Xiao feigned anger. "What are you staring at? Think I didn’t wash my face or something?"
"It’s not that, Brother Chen Xiao. You’re just... different today compared to yesterday!"
"How so?"
"Yesterday, you were all lovesick and pining. Today, you look as smug as the cat that got the cream!"
Chen Xiao glared. ’And whose fault is that? You’re the ones who were winding me up! If my dear Xiangjun hadn’t risked life and limb to help me blow off some steam, I would’ve spontaneously combusted by now!’
"You get over here! I promise I won’t beat you to death!"
Ma Jing pouted. "Use me and lose me, is that it? The novelty wears off, so you resort to violence!"
’We’ve barely done anything, how can she talk about being used and lost?’
"Is President Feng in the office today?"
"She is, but it looks like she has a client with her. I think it’s the vice president of some big company who’s here for a visit!"
’A big company? Just how big could it be?’
Doctor Feng Robot Technology Group was now undeniably one of the top-tier high-tech enterprises in Jiangzhou, even if its annual revenue was only a few hundred million last year.
But since the beginning of this year, the investment from Junxiao Group alone had exceeded 10 billion!
The company had created so many jobs, generated so much tax revenue, and achieved so much for the area!
The once-obscure Dr. Feng’s Technology Group had become a household name this year, known by all.
"Could you go tell President Feng’s assistant that I’ll go see her once her client has left?"
’It had been a few days since they last saw each other. He hadn’t been able to give her a proper debriefing in person, and he was afraid she’d hold it against him. After all, he had wrinkled her clothes last time.’
He also sent a text to Feng Feifei: "I’m at the office. Let me know when you’re free, and I’ll come over."
「Inside Feng Feifei’s office.」
She sat in the host’s seat on the reception sofa, while Zhang Jun sat on the one beside it.
Zhang Jun was a former classmate of Feng Feifei’s from her time studying in Germany. They had run into each other once while dining at Han Pavilion but hadn’t been in contact since.
President Qian, President Liu, and others had been invited to the last annual gala, but Zhang Jun had not received an invitation.
As for why, Zhang Jun himself was wondering the same thing.
"Feifei, how come you didn’t invite me to your annual gala?"
He found it unbelievable! Nantong Company was a major group with an annual revenue of 15 billion, and on top of that, he was her classmate. Inviting him to come and show his support should have been a matter of course!
"I forgot."
The hand Zhang Jun was raising to take a sip of water trembled. ’Ouch. That excuse is a real blow to the ego.’ 𝚏𝗋ℯⅇ
’You think you’re somebody important, but on the big day, you’re completely forgotten!’
Feng Feifei genuinely hadn’t thought of him. Nantong Company had no business dealings with Doctor Feng Robot Technology Group.
As far as she was concerned, Zhang Jun barely registered. On top of that, there were too many important people to invite, and most of the guest list had been compiled from suggestions by her subordinates.
However, no one besides Feng Feifei even knew who Zhang Jun was.
Coupled with her complete lack of interest in inviting him, she had, in fact, simply forgotten.
Feng Feifei was a woman of few words and had no idea what to talk to him about.
Zhang Jun, however, was a social butterfly, chattering on endlessly about his professional abilities and his company’s grand achievements.
Finally, he asked, "Feifei, how has business been for you this year?"
"It’s alright."
Zhang Jun sighed. "Business is tough nowadays. Our performance has also seen a bit of a decline. We’re just trying to maintain the status quo for now."
"Mm, that’s how it is. And we can’t hire anyone new before the end of the year."
Zhang Jun paused, taken aback. ’I said my performance is declining. What does that have to do with your inability to hire anyone?’
"Feifei, if performance is trending down, shouldn’t you stop hiring more people?"
Feng Feifei, seeming a bit absent-minded, replied, "Oh, no. It’s because we have more work than we can handle. We have to hire."
’So much work they can’t even finish it? Are they that incredible? I came here to offer some "charity," so how am I supposed to do that now?’
It was like going to the bathroom, getting into position, and then being told to just hold it in.
It was a bitter pill to swallow, but he had no choice but to back down. He could no longer bring up the idea of helping her pull in some business.
Just then, Feng Feifei’s phone chimed with a message. She picked it up to look, and Zhang Jun noticed a blush suddenly creeping across her face.
He felt a strange pang in his heart. ’How great would it be if I were the reason for that expression!’
What kind of message could make her react like that? Zhang Jun couldn’t help but let his imagination run wild.
Just then, Feng Feifei said, "Zhang Jun, I have some important matters to handle in a moment, so I’m afraid I’ll have to excuse myself."
Zhang Jun was incredulous. ’Is she kicking me out already?’
’I’ve been here all this time, and aside from me bragging a bit, you’ve barely said a word.’
But he still had to maintain an air of composure in front of Feng Feifei. He stood up with a smile and said, "Of course. I won’t keep you from your work. You’re welcome to stop by my office for tea sometime!"
"Mm, okay."
Feng Feifei’s reply was perfunctory. Her impression of Zhang Jun had always been average, but ever since he went out of his way to give Chen Xiao a hard time at dinner, she had grown to dislike him.
She was only willing to entertain a conversation with him out of consideration for their time as classmates. As for going to his office for tea, that was completely out of the question.
Other than occasionally going out with Bai Lu, Feng Feifei rarely went for tea with clients unless it was to discuss business.
Feng Feifei politely saw Zhang Jun out of her office and instructed her assistant to walk him to the elevators.
Ordinarily, her personality would have compelled her to see him all the way out, but she was afraid of keeping Chen Xiao waiting. She had her assistant take over, apologizing to Zhang Jun and reiterating that she had an urgent matter to attend to.
Zhang Jun was somewhat disappointed, but he kept a smile on his face. "Not at all," he said. "Work is more important!"
As the assistant was escorting him out, Zhang Jun asked in a joking tone, "Is President Feng always this busy?"
