Chapter 365 -223: If Your Sister Won’t Beat You, I’ll Beat Her (Part 3)
Xia Bin said snidely, “It’s nothing. Just ran into some third-rate salesman!”
A salesman? Lin Ping had initially thought Chen Xiao had an extraordinary presence and couldn’t be just an ordinary person. But after hearing Xia Bin call him a salesman, he immediately dismissed him.
Upon hearing that, he said, “Just some salesman. If you don’t like him, call security and have him thrown out. We call the shots on our turf!”
‘Your turf? The Qing Dynasty fell ages ago, and you’re still acting like a prince!’
“I’ll give you a chance to rephrase that,” Chen Xiao told him coolly.
“Oh? Acting tough, are we? Do you even know who we are?” Lin Ping seemed intrigued.
He was young and hot-headed to begin with. Plus, he knew Xia Bin was doing well for himself in Jiangzhou. This place had even once been his family’s project. Although it wasn’t anymore, his sister was the general manager. ‘There’s no way I’m getting intimidated by some salesman here, of all places,’ he thought.
“Lin Pingzhi?”
“Fuck! It’s Lin Ping! No ‘zhi’!”
“How do you know my name?”
Lin Ping was furious. ‘I’m not practicing the damn Exorcism Sword Manual!’ What shocked him even more was how Chen Xiao knew his name.
“Your sister told me.”
At the mention of Lin Ya, the two had very different reactions. Lin Ping was surprised that Chen Xiao knew his sister, whereas Xia Bin’s glare became even more hateful. Chen Xiao had successfully reopened an old wound.
Xia Bin said to Lin Ping, “Let’s go. We shouldn’t waste our time on lowlifes like him.”
‘A lowlife?’ Chen Xiao wasn’t offended. He came from a humble background—both his parents were ordinary teachers. Words like that couldn’t hurt him.
But Lin Ping continued to press, “You know my sister?”
“She’s pushed me around before.”
‘Pushed you around? Did you try to do business with my sister?’ Lin Ping was still mulling it over, not noticing that Xia Bin had suddenly flown into a rage.
He had misheard it as a crude boast: “She rode me!”
‘Wasn’t this a slap in the face right in front of him?’
“Chen Xiao, you motherfucker…!”
He lunged forward recklessly, his eyes practically splitting with rage.
Chen Xiao paid no mind to a man so thoroughly debauched by wine and women. He simply raised his leg and kicked him several meters away, leaving him on the ground, struggling to get back up.
‘I can’t believe my strength increased this much after my Stamina passed 100,’ he thought. ‘Before, I’d have been lucky to just knock him back with a kick, let alone send him flying!’
Lin Ping was about to jump in and help, but when he saw the man he usually looked up to as a future brother-in-law get sent flying with a single kick, the pampered young man immediately lost his nerve. All his bravado was just for show.
He pointed at Chen Xiao and blustered, “You hit him! I’m calling security to have you arrested!”
Chen Xiao was speechless. ‘How did this kid make it to adulthood? Was he raised in a bubble?’
“Don’t be scared. I’m not going to hit you. If anyone’s going to, it’ll be your sister.”
Xia Bin, who was being helped up by Lin Ping, nearly coughed up blood. Chen Xiao kept bringing up Lin Ya, and each mention was like another twist of the knife, reminding him of his humiliation.
Lin Ping said dismissively, “My sister would never hit me over someone like you!”
‘From the way he said that, it sounds like Lin Ya has hit him before.’
Chen Xiao said coolly, “If she won’t beat you, then I’ll beat her.”
With a THUD, Xia Bin collapsed again.
Lin Ping didn’t believe a word of it. ‘Anyone can talk big,’ he thought. ‘Him, beat Lin Ya? How?’
So much for shopping. Chen Xiao decided to head up to the office. As he was leaving, he said to Lin Ping, “Don’t bother with trash like him. He’s a lost cause.”
Xia Bin’s face turned beet red, but he didn’t dare to retort.
People like him seemed impressive on the surface but were actually complete cowards. He knew he couldn’t win a physical fight or a war of words, so he backed down immediately, planning to get his revenge later when he had the chance.
Despite his spinelessness, he would dignify it with a saying: “Discretion is the better part of valor.”
Not only did he use this to console himself, but he also used it to counsel Lin Ping. You really had to hand it to him.
Chen Xiao shook his head. ‘If he’d gotten up and fought me to the death, I might have respected him a little. But for trash like him to act so arrogant… isn’t he just asking for a beating?’
Their conflict had quickly drawn a crowd, so Chen Xiao made a hasty exit.
After helping Xia Bin up, Lin Ping said, “I’m going upstairs to the office to find my sister. The security in this mall is terrible! How could a thug like that cause trouble and no guards show up?”
He didn’t stop to think that only a few minutes had passed; security couldn’t have arrived that quickly.
Hearing that Lin Ping was going to find Lin Ya was music to Xia Bin’s ears.
His business was currently in dire straits, and he was hoping Lin Ya could help him out. Besides, he was still very fond of his fiancée, but she had always been so cold to him that he never had a chance to get close.
‘More opportunities to interact with her might change her attitude.’
He also had another question he needed to ask Lin Ya: how did she and Chen Xiao know each other?
‘I remember the teahouse was the first time they met. Even if what I saw back then was a misunderstanding, why would Chen Xiao be in Lin Ya’s office?’
‘They can’t possibly have any business dealings!’
He didn’t know that Dr. Feng’s Robot and Junxiao Square actually did have business together. But to the average person, a tech company and a commercial real estate firm were in two completely different worlds.
“In the office?”
Chen Xiao sent Lin Ya a message. He wasn’t about to go up rashly. ‘What’s the point if she’s not there?’
A moment later, a reply came. “Boss, are you here for the ‘check-up’?”
“Mhm.” 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
Only after sending the reply did he realize they might be talking about two different things.
‘Lin Ya must be referring to our conversation from this morning, when we talked about checking the injury on her back.’
‘Meanwhile, my first thought was that she meant I was here to inspect the mall’s operations!’
‘What an awkward mix-up.’
Lin Ya did indeed blush. ‘How can the boss be so direct?’ she thought. ‘Saying he’ll come and then just showing up. He’s not reserved in the slightest!’
‘But what can I do? I’m stuck with a boss who’s handsome and charming.’
Lin Ya asked the operations manager, who was in the middle of a report, to step out and wait for her call. Then she picked up a mirror and began to touch up her makeup.
‘Oh dear, they’re so careless. The small reception table hasn’t been cleared yet!’
In a flash, she swept everything into a bag, tossed it in a corner, and planned to deal with it properly after President Chen left.
At least the office looked clean and tidy on the surface now.
