Chapter 280: The Truck Belongs To Us Now
Lianhua waved her hand limply. "Until next time."
He walked out of the bedroom, closing the door quietly behind him. He made his way down the hall, past Mei’s closed door, and descended the stairs, letting himself out of the mansion.
A few minutes later, the front door opened again and Renzhi stepped in with his tie loosened and his forehead creased with frustration.
He tossed his briefcase onto the sofa and trudged up the stairs. He entered the matrimonial bedroom without knocking, expecting to find his wife asleep.
Instead, he found Lianhua sitting up in bed, wearing a silk robe with her hair slightly damp and her cheeks flushed.
The room was dimly lit with light coming from only the bedside lamp. The portrait on the wall seemed slightly darker in spots, but he didn’t notice.
"Lianhua?" he voiced with a tired tone. "You’re up?"
She smiled with a calm expression. "I couldn’t sleep this time. Was busy. You haven’t been home in days... work?"
He sighed while sitting on the edge of the bed. "Yes. I spent a long time dealing with some territorial issue. It was exhausting." He rubbed his eyes. "I needed to come home and see you."
The truth was he was frustrated by the fact that Bloodstain still hadn’t dealt with West but he couldn’t tell that to his wife.
She leaned forward and reached out her hand to cup his cheek. "I’m sorry, honey. You work so hard." She pulled him closer, pressing her lips against his in a deep, loving kiss.
He kissed back while resting his hand on her waist.
But as they broke the kiss, Renzhi’s brow furrowed.
He licked his lips after a strange taste lingered on his tongue. "Your mouth tastes funny," he voiced with a puzzled tone. "What did you eat?"
Lianhua’s heart skipped a beat, but her smile remained normal. "Oh, I had some yogurt earlier. A new brand."
He licked his lips again, smacking them thoughtfully. "Yogurt? It tastes... unique. Almost salty and sweet at the same time." He looked at her with an expression of curiosity. "And there’s something white and sticky right at the corner of your mouth."
She quickly reached up, wiping the corner of her lips with a finger.
She brought the finger to her mouth, licking it clean. "That’s just the yogurt," she said smoothly. "Must have dried a bit."
Renzhi shrugged before drawing her into another kiss. He lingered longer this time, tasting her more thoroughly. "Mmm. You’ll have to show me that yogurt. I’ve never had any that tastes like that." He pulled back, a half-smile on his face. "Is it imported?"
Lianhua laughed softly while stroking his chest. "Yes, honey. It’s imported." She leaned in, whispering against his lips. "I’ll buy more."

Elsewhere in Misty High City...
a large armored transport truck suddenly screeched to a halt.
Several men stood directly in the middle of the road blocking its path.
Each of them wore dark tactical outfits marked with the a dark vulture insignia while weapons rested visibly across their backs.
One of the men stepped forward and slammed his fist against the truck hood.
"Out."
The driver inside immediately started sweating because he recognized them to be Iron Vultures.
Before either driver could properly react, doors flew open and more than a dozen Iron Vultures members poured onto the street.
They moved with the confidence of people who believed the city belonged to them.
One of the drivers immediately stepped out with both hands raised.
"Wait! Wait! There must be some misunderstanding!"
The man leading the Iron Vultures group was a bald giant with metal rings through both ears. He proceeded to grab the driver by the collar. "Misunderstanding?"
The driver nodded frantically. "We were paid to deliver this shipment! That’s all! We’re just transport workers!"
The giant laughed before punching him.
The driver hit the pavement so hard that blood immediately burst from his lips.
His partner rushed out from the passenger side. "Hey!"
The bald giant caught his wrist before he could even get involved and twisted...
CRACK~
The man’s scream echoed throughout the street as his arm bent in a direction arms were never meant to bend.
He collapsed instantly while te other Iron Vultures members burst into laughter.
"Look at him cry."
"Pathetic."
"We barely touched him."
The first driver tried crawling toward his injured partner but boot smashed into his ribs.
Bam!
And then, another struck his face.
Bam!
Then another.
Bam!
And another.
Bam!
The Iron Vultures members beat him until he could barely move.
Finally the giant crouched beside them. "Listen carefully."
He patted the broken-armed driver’s cheek. "The truck belongs to us now."
"But—"
A fist to the face immediately shut him up, causing him to pass out.
The bald giant stood. "Take it."
Within moments, Iron Vultures members climbed into the transport vehicle.
The engine roared as they started the truck and drove away, leaving the two drivers bloodied on the roadside.

Meanwhile... West sat comfortably on the couch inside his apartment.
One leg rested atop the glass table before him while the city skyline stretched beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Night had settled over Misty High, causing the lights outside to glitter endlessly.
Seraphyra moved gracefully through the apartment carrying a glass of wine.
Currently in her human form, she looked every bit as dangerous as she was beautiful.
She approached slowly before offering him the glass.
West accepted it. "Thank you."
Seraphyra smiled. "Master is welcome."
Instead of moving away, she leaned against the back of the couch with her green-golden eyes glimmering mischievously. "You know..."
West sighed. "No."
"You don’t even know what I was going to say."
"I know enough."
She pouted. "That’s unfair."
West rolled his eyes while Seraphyra’s smile widened.
"Master remembers that ruin, right?"
West nearly choked on his wine upon hearing that. Of course he remembered... how could he possibly forget?
The strange environment... the bizarre influence affecting their thoughts... tbe entire experience that involved a lot of blood and sex.
Seraphyra looked thoroughly pleased by his reaction. "Seraphyra remembers."
West rubbed his forehead. "We were not ourselves that day."
"Hmm."
"We weren’t."
"Hmm."
West narrowed his eyes. "Stop saying hmm."
Her grin became even wider. "Seraphyra still wants a rematch."
"There was no match."
"There absolutely was."
West groaned while Seraphyra suddenly leaned forward from behind the couch.
Her long serpentine tongue brushed lightly across the side of his cheek.
West immediately jerked away. "Oi."
She laughed. "Master wants Seraphyra too."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
Her fingers lightly traced across his shoulder, down to his chest and then slowly towards his crotch.
West was about to argue further when his phone suddenly began vibrating.
~ Aria ~
West immediately answered when he noticed the name on the screen.
"What?"
He paused while she spoke from the other end...
His expression changed in a few seconds, going from joking amusement to very serious.
Even Seraphyra straightened slightly, she could already feel something was wrong through the summon bond.
West rose to his feet. "How bad?"
There was a brief pause before his eyes narrowed. "I’m coming."
"Problem?" Seraphyra inquired after the call ended.
West nodded. "We’re leaving."

~ Twenty minutes later ~
At the Shadow Reapers Base, the atmosphere was very tense.
Several gang members stood gathered around the meeting area.
One man sat nearby holding his recently broken arm with a pale face.
His clothes stained with blood and dirt which pretty much already told unspoken tales of a rough night.
West immediately approached. "What happened?"
The driver swallowed hard before he began recounting everything.
He recounted the roadblock... the ambush... the beat down from Iron Vultures... and how they took the truck.
He didn’t miss any detail, including even the looks of those he could remember.
The entire room became quieter as the story continued and by the end, Jax looked ready to kill someone.
Nina, Hart and Vanya looked furious as wl while West remained calm.
He reached into his inventory, pulled out a pet bottle which contained chalice contents.
The driver looked confused as West handed it over.
"Drink."
The man obeyed and a few seconds later his eyes widened in disbelief.
The broken arm visibly began to recover... bones reconnected, bruising faded and the pain vanished.
The driver stared at his healed arm in disbelief. "What the hell..."
West merely nodded. "You’re fine now."
This was West’s way of apologising for getting innocents involved in his issue with Iron Vultures.
West heard sniffles from the side and instantly turned.
Aria stood there, visibly close to tears.
Papers were scattered across the large conference table containing financial reports, shipment manifests, purchase agreements... everything.
She looked exhausted. "The items..."
Her voice cracked slightly as West walked closer.
"How much?"
Aria swallowed before giving the figure.
The room went silent upon the revelation. It was enough money to make even gangs above street level feel the loss.
Several rare ruin materials, high-grade crystals and specialized monster body parts...
The buyers had already paid which made things significantly worse.
Aria looked devastated. "I should have done better."
