Chapter 142: Mysterious Apprentice

Chapter 142: Mysterious Apprentice

SPLASH!

Bright red paint exploded across the ground as it slammed down.

West and Nina both froze.

“…Did that just…”

“…Become real?”

They stared at the spilled paint in shock.

Nina slowly looked down at the brush in her hand.

“…I can draw things into reality?”

West let out a low whistle.

“That’s…”

He shook his head.

“…ridiculously powerful.”

Even Jax’s Glacial Sovereign abilities weren’t this absurd.

Reality creation through drawing? Looks like three branches awakened were always on another level compared to other awakeners.

It made sense why they’d vye over him even when they didn’t know he had two branches.

If and when gangs finally discovered Nina, there was no doubt that every single one of them would try their very best to recruit her…

The potential was insane.

Nina looked equally stunned.

“…I think I got something crazy.”

West grinned.

“Looks like it.”

Over the next several days, their routine settled into a rhythm of training after school and work.

West trained with Aurethia, Jax practiced his ice abilities against Gor’thala and Nina learned to control her strange brush power.

The more she experimented, the more they realized how flexible the ability was.

She could draw objects, tools, materials and even weapons.

Each drawing temporarily became real but she noticed that the more sophisticated a drawing was, the more energy she expended.

A bucket of paint wasn’t anything special but when she drew a blazing saber, she felt the toll.

One evening, as they rested after training, West leaned back against a broken wall.

“Well,” he said casually.

“We’ve got three members now.”

Jax nodded.

“Which means?”

West smiled.

“Which means we can finally make it official.”

“A gang.”

Nina’s eyes lit up.

“Seriously?”

“Yeah.”

West had already begun making inquiries through awakened networks.

Apparently, forming an awakened gang required a few steps.

First, they had to register officially which would also require some grant and a few other steps that West felt wouldn’t be a problem.

Second, they needed recommendations from two established gang leaders.

If they succeeded, they would officially become an Awakened Gang.

That meant access to:

• Awakened Battle arts halls

• Training facilities

• Ruin expedition permits

• Official awakened resources

West looked toward the skyline of the city with ambition gleaming in his eyes.

Step by step, he was making progress…

Soon, the world of awakened gangs would learn a new name.

On Thursday, West walked along the busy road carrying two grocery bags while massive digital billboards flickered above the buildings, displaying the same type of news that had become increasingly common.

Awakened news…

Ruins…

Power…

Danger…

Opportunity.

The large screen mounted above a shopping complex shifted to a live broadcast. The logo of a global news network appeared before the camera focused on a well-dressed reporter standing in front of a research institute.

“Recent global statistics have shown that the number of ruins appearing around the world has increased by nearly fifteen percent in the past year alone.”

A graph appeared beside her on the screen, displaying the alarming rise.

Pedestrians slowed down to watch while West glanced up briefly before continuing to walk.

The reporter continued.

“Experts are still unsure what is causing this sudden surge, but many believe it is connected to the mysterious force responsible for the awakening phenomenon.”

The screen shifted again.

Now it displayed a man standing calmly in front of several microphones.

Even people who didn’t follow awakened politics knew who he was.

One of the most powerful awakened alive… a global celebrity.

A man whose true tier remained unknown.

West recognized him immediately to be the man known as King Fisher. When you reached a particular level of power, no-one regarded you by your birth name anymore… there was always a sort of nickname like a title of power that the public bestowed upon you.

The man spoke in a calm, composed voice.

“We are currently living in a time where the concentration of the energy responsible for awakenings appears to be increasing.”

His gaze remained steady as cameras flashed.

“Our researchers are still studying the phenomenon.”

He paused briefly before continuing.

“We know very little about the origin of the ruins or the powers that have begun appearing in our world.”

Another flash of cameras.

“But one thing is certain.”

He folded his hands behind his back.

“The source of these awakenings is becoming more active.”

“We intend to find out why.”

The broadcast ended as the screen switched to another news segment.

West shifted the grocery bags in his hands and kept walking.

The city traffic roared around him as people continued their daily routines.

But the news about ruins and awakenings followed everyone everywhere now.

Another large street screen flickered ahead but this time the headline was different.

BREAKING AWAKENED NEWS

West raised an eyebrow slightly as he approached.

The reporter on screen looked almost excited.

“Today we have shocking news regarding the Eternal Ruins incident that occurred this past weekend.”

Several pedestrians stopped walking while West slowed slightly.

“Sources have confirmed that a mysterious awakened individual cleared the entire third layer of the Eternal Ruins alone.”

Gasps rippled through the small crowd watching the screen.

“Even more surprising…”

The reporter leaned slightly toward the camera.

“This awakened has reportedly become the newest apprentice of the famous gang leader—Miss Zu Li of the Dragon Fang Gang.”

The screen displayed an image of Zu Li.

Her cold expression and long beautiful hair gave her an intimidating presence even through a digital display.

West resisted the urge to sigh while the reporter continued.

“According to rumors, the mysterious apprentice possesses three awakened branches.”

The crowd exploded into chatter.

“Three branches?!”

“That’s impossible!”

“I heard there hasn’t been an awakened with three branches in over a century!”

West adjusted his groceries and quietly continued walking.

People around him were already discussing the rumor loudly.

“Did you hear that? Three branches!”

“Who is this guy?”

“They’re saying he’s still really young!”

“If Zu Li picked him up, he must be a monster.”
