Chapter 229

Although Liyu’s voice sounded calm and confident as he stood before Shi Tian, violent wind Qi swirling around the latter’s figure, his presence was sharp enough to make even those at the peak of the Foundation Realm feel an overwhelming sense of danger.

Liyu might have sounded confident, but that was far from him being totally at ease. In truth, he was not at ease at all. His heart was still racing as a bad feeling continued to swirl in his chest. He felt as if, despite all his preparation and effort, he might still not be able to handle this current Shi Tian...

He forced those thoughts down. If he allowed fear and doubt to rule his mind now, it would only become a problem. He was already in trouble; there was no need for him to make that danger and trouble even worse.

So, he looked Shi Tian straight in the eyes and spoke.

"Actually, that makes the two of us."

Lightning crackled violently around Liyu’s figure as inferno blazed within his hand, while around Shi Tian, raging wind currents surged wildly, letting out a sound that seemed to say that doom was near.

The two men stared at each other.

To the crowd watching, it looked as if three forces of nature were about to clash.

On one side was the force of raging wind currents, radiating sharpness and cold death. On the other was destructive lightning, swirling together with an inferno that seemed capable of consuming everything in its path.

They made such a beautiful scene.

But no one in the audience felt as if it was beautiful.

If anything, they felt as if a huge disaster was about to go down.

In the ruined stage where there was no longer any stage, the ground had been decimated and ruined beyond belief. The referee looked at the two figures about to have their clash, and he couldn’t help but feel as if this would be their final clash.

He looked at the two of them and, for some reason, he didn’t want to miss it.

Start already.

As if his thought had set things into motion, Liyu attacked first.

"Behemoth Punch!"

Inferno roared and slammed into Shi Tian’s face at point-blank range.

Liyu didn’t know whether the guy had simply become too arrogant because of his newfound power or what, but he hadn’t used his precious Wind Veil this time.

And that had cost him to suffer...

Or maybe not.

When Shi Tian’s face emerged from the attack, there was only a small scratch upon it.

Liyu’s eyes twitched, but he didn’t waste any time. After all, he knew with absolute certainty that things had become dire immediately.

Shi Tian attacked with his blades, unleashing his might, and Liyu tackled them head-on.

The two forces clashed, and a terrifying, bone-chilling boom spread outward, followed by a massive shockwave that rocked all sides of the entire battle stage.

Well...

There was no more stage.

So, it was the entire space that suffered from their clash.

The camps and the infirmary were protected since their various protective barriers were already up, but the rest of the large space where Liyu and Shi Tian clashed wasn’t so lucky.

With Momentum activated, Liyu’s speed wasn’t lacking far behind Shi Tian’s.

It was still lacking, though.

But it wasn’t as overwhelming as it would have been if Liyu didn’t have Momentum skyrocketing his speed upward.

The two clashed with their full force, the echoes of their clashes causing the air to tremble and the ground beneath them, which was already suffering, to suffer even more.

The ground broke down and shattered.

The massive shockwaves from their fight spread everywhere. They weren’t able to pass the golden barrier personally erected by Elder Ting to protect the spectators and audience, but it didn’t need to be damaged for the people to see that the level of battle now had even surpassed the last one that they had found terrifying.

If the last round between the two could be said to be terrifying and bone-chilling, then this one here...

Was several steps worse than that.

It left everyone watching trapped between awe and terror at the two’s clashes.

It was as if they weren’t watching two humans battle.

Rather, it was as if the ones they were watching doing battle were two forces of nature.

The terrifying bangs and booms echoed outward over and over again, and the entire arena went silent as all gazes were locked onto the battle.

They didn’t want to miss anything.

They wanted to see what would happen.

This final match was similar to the semifinal match in its own ways, especially when it came to complexity and power-ups. They had all thought that Shi Tian was done in the last round. After all, his heart had been pierced through.

But not only was he not done...

He had risen once more, and he was now far, far more powerful than before.

Most of them couldn’t follow the movements of the two figures flashing and clashing across the battlefield. Every clash resulted in a massive shockwave and a deadly aftermath, but they all watched with rapt attention.

None of them wanted to miss who would take the win in this final round...

And whether this would truly be the final clash between the two.

They seem to be equally matched.

That was the thought that flashed across the minds of many watching the two figures clash.

Well...

They couldn’t have been more wrong.

Amidst the clash, Liyu gritted his teeth as another bloody gash appeared on his neck, followed by several more across his body and even some on his face.

He was getting mauled here.

With all his boasts and everything else, he was barely surviving against Shi Tian’s attacks.

The guy had become an absolute monster.

Well, that was surely to be expected.

After all, he had already been a monster at the peak of the Qi Refining Realm... a truly overpowering monster.

So, him stepping beyond that and reaching the peak of the early stage of the Foundation Realm was something that was totally understandable.

Liyu was trying his best to hold his own.

And he was...

Failing to do so.

Shi Tian was faster.

Stronger.

And each of his attacks was supremely powerful.

In fact, he could probably slay an Earth Grade cultivator at the peak of the Foundation Realm with one swing of his sword.

That was how terrifyingly powerful the current Shi Tian was.

And what made the already bad situation even worse was the fact that this Shi Tian was someone who was even scarier than the one from before.

If before he had simply wanted to kill Liyu for the sake of killing, now...

He was mad.

The gaze he looked at Liyu with was nothing but madness and the urge to rip him apart in cold blood.

The resentment contained within those dark eyes of his would have been enough to fill an entire ocean, and every single bit of it was directed at Liyu.

He struck not in a way meant to cause a clean death like the Shi Tian of before.

Instead, he attacked in a way that ensured Liyu would suffer the most pain possible.

It seemed that he wanted to make Liyu feel true pain and despair before finally using his killing move on him and attempting to end Liyu’s life.

A dark smile appeared on Liyu’s face as he thought of that.

Actually...

The guy would have to try far more than this if he wanted to take him down.

After all, Liyu’s tolerance for terror and pain was far higher than anyone else’s.

So, if Shi Tian thought he could weaken Liyu’s resolve with all of this...

He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Liyu pressed on with his attacks, but no matter how much he attacked, the guy was able to block and evade every single one.

Not only his attacks...

The attacks made by King Rayden’s lightning weapons were blocked and evaded as well.

Even the shots from Dead Eye Rayden were completely blocked, and Shi Tian even managed to evade a few of them.

Meanwhile, every single one of Shi Tian’s attacks was forcing Liyu to use everything he had in his arsenal...

And even more...

Just to survive.

Things were starting to look bad once more, and Liyu knew he needed more help.

So, he decided to try one more thing.

He gave a mental command to the system.

A short while passed.

Then...

Ding!

Skill Call has been activated.

Calling...

Call rejected.

Liyu’s eyes twitched.

He survived another rampage of attacks, although not unscathed. His eye was nearly sliced through, but he barely evaded the attack, causing a large gash to travel through his nose instead.

"I am really going to kill that lazy bastard of mine."

Liyu said through gritted teeth.

He was having a terrible day today.

Sincerely speaking, today was like the worst day of his life.

And as if waiting to top off his already terrible day...

The system notification rang once more.

Ding! Congratulations, Host. Your title, Paladin Aspirant, has been upgraded.

Ding! Congratulations, Host. Your title, Devouring Debt, has been upgraded.

Ding! Your curse has leveled up. Bear with it...

The last words made Liyu’s eyes twitch.

He was really having a terrible...

A really, really terrible day.

"Damn it."
