Chapter 205

He was a talent unlike any other, but more than they respected him, they feared him... a hundred times more... after all, Shi Tian killed at the slightest reason, with even a rumor existing that he had once killed someone for a reason as simple as looking at him the wrong way, making him a cold-blooded killing psychopath.

And the three people... Shi Lan, Shi Yuan, and Shi Meng... knew without anyone needing to tell them that they would most likely be killed after the tournament, though their fate could have been changed if Liyu won and Shi Tian lost.

Because if Shi Tian was also a loser like them, his own words would affect him as well, meaning that if he wanted to kill them, he would need to kill himself too, and since they were certain that he couldn’t possibly do that, they would be safe.

But look at what Liyu had done: he had chosen to do something that was truly beyond stupid, because how could he call for a death match against someone who had been feeding on death ever since he turned six?

Shi Tian was not normal, not normal at all, but rather a cold, unfeeling killing machine and a monster that had long since abandoned whatever ordinary emotions a human being was supposed to possess.

"We are dead, aren’t we?" Shi Yuan’s voice was devoid of any emotion as he collapsed onto his butt, his face pale from the fear eating him up from the inside, with every few moments an image of his death flashing across his mind... Shi Tian’s emotionless eyes, that cold indifferent expression, the terrifying attack, and then his own life ending in cold blood.

He was scared, more than scared even, being completely terrified just like the rest of the trio.

They wanted to live, wanted nothing more than to survive this tournament and leave this place alive, but there didn’t seem to be any way for them to escape their current predicament, because after Shi Tian killed Liyu, he would kill them as well, which seemed to be their fate.

"We might still survive this if Shi Tian dies," Shi Meng’s voice was low and trembling, but the other two heard her loud and clear, sincerely knowing that if anyone from their clan heard what she had just said, she would be severely punished for those words or maybe even killed.

But the other two beside her were facing the exact same danger, so instead of condemning her, they understood her and felt the same way, realizing the only way they were going to survive this was for Liyu to kill Shi Tian.

If he managed to end him in this match, then they would be safe, and the devil that made all of them fearful to even stand in his presence would be gone from this world, which was the best thing they could possibly wish for.

But who were they kidding? As much as they desperately wanted that to happen, they knew it could never happen, because Shi Tian was called the devil for a reason and also known as the Ultimate Killing Machine for a reason.

The fact that he had once managed to assassinate a Bronze Core cultivator was already one of the feats that made it clear he was anything but normal, and his prey wasn’t even limited to those in the same cultivation stage as him, no, as he hunted down those at the Foundation Realm like they were nothing more than prey and killed them in cold blood. How the hell did they expect Liyu to kill someone like that?

The three were pulled back to reality by their own thoughts, their gazes becoming even more terrified as the weight of their situation settled over them once again:

they were all going to die, Liyu would be killed, then they would be killed, and if that crazy, cold-blooded killer called Shi Tian wasn’t stopped soon and was allowed to continue growing... then perhaps the entire world itself would eventually be in danger, with no one being safe and anyone being able to become his victim.

And that was precisely what made the three of them so afraid, because they weren’t merely waiting for the outcome of a tournament anymore, but rather waiting to see whether the person standing on that stage would become the one who finally stopped the Shi Clan’s devil... or whether another life would be added to the countless deaths left in Shi Tian’s path.

At the seat of the leaders, Shi Gubing looked at the stage with a calm, cold smile appearing on his face, knowing that if one was speaking about handling matters of killing and assassination, then he had never seen anyone as terrifying as his own son.

His son made Shi Gubing feel very apprehensive most of the time, in fact with moments when Shi Tian scared the shit out of him with just how cold and ruthless he could be, killing without a second thought and enjoying the act of killing itself.

He was not normal, far from it, and if one was talking about the thing that Shi Tian was best at, then it would undoubtedly be his ability to kill almost anyone and anything he targeted as his prey, not mattering who they were or how strong they were, because once Shi Tian decided that someone was his prey, he would hunt them down until they were dead.

And right at this moment... he had targeted Liyu as his prey. Shi Gubing’s face became calm and composed as his confidence grew, believing that they had already won, that Liyu would die soon, and that this tournament would be over.

Meanwhile, back on the stage, the referee finished explaining the rules after going through a long list of details and conditions, and once he was done, he vanished from the stage, moving away while remaining close enough to intervene if something went wrong.

The entire arena gradually fell silent, and for a long while, the two figures on the stage simply stood there calmly with their gazes locked onto each other, neither moving nor speaking.

Liyu’s gaze was calm, almost detached, while Shi Tian’s gaze remained blank and utterly devoid of emotion, as if the death match before him was nothing more than another ordinary task and as if the life and death of the person standing opposite him didn’t matter in the slightest.

After a while, a small smile appeared on Liyu’s lips, but there was no warmth within that smile, only cold malice:

"You are overconfident in your abilities, aren’t you?" Liyu’s voice was calm, but there was an unmistakable edge hidden beneath it as his eyes gradually relaxed: "Let me tell you this... overconfidence is a weakness."

As Liyu said that, his gaze darkened, having decided to cut straight to the chase because this was a death match, meaning there was no reason to waste time since playtime was over.

A small blue ring suddenly appeared on his left hand, and the moment it appeared, it began glowing brightly as a brilliant blue light immediately erupted from it and spread across Liyu’s entire body, completely enveloping him.

The crowd watched in silence as the blue radiance intensified, and then... the light vanished.

The ragged clothing that had previously covered Liyu’s body had disappeared, replaced by a skin-tight, sleek combat suit that seemed to be made from an extremely flexible, high-quality material which hugged his entire body like a second skin, covering him from the neck down to his ankles while leaving every part of his body completely unrestricted, with no unnecessary bulk, no loose fabric, and nothing that could interfere with his movements, alongside several stripes running along its surface where red, blue, green, and other colors mixed together in a striking pattern that made the combat suit look both catchy and incredibly cool.

But that wasn’t the only thing that appeared, as a blue light suddenly glowed within Liyu’s hand, its radiance twisting and condensing before... a sword appeared.

Its hilt was made from what seemed to be a small dragon skull, its tiny eyes glowing with an eerie blue radiance, while the sword itself was completely different, looking like an endless abyss where darkness seemed to exist within its blade, with countless tiny stars appearing to float inside it as if the sword itself contained an entire night sky.

The moment the combat suit and sword appeared on Liyu’s body... BOOM!... his aura underwent an overwhelming transformation, a change so massive that it was almost impossible to put into words, causing the atmosphere around him to seem to change instantly so that the feeling he gave off was no longer the same as before.

The previous Liyu had been powerful, but this Liyu... he felt completely different.

Yet Liyu wasn’t done, no, because he was planning to end Shi Tian, not merely defeat him or force him to surrender, but make him feel despair and understand dread before his life was finally brought to an end.

And once he killed him... he would make absolutely certain that Shi Tian stayed dead. That was why Liyu had been completely serious when he said that Shi Tian had chosen the wrong opponent, and Shi Tian was about to learn exactly why nobody should mess with him after making the mistake of thinking Liyu was simply another genius he could overwhelm.

Liyu slowly closed his eyes, then passed a mental command, and a few moments passed before...

Ding!

[Skill: Call has been used.]

[King Rayden has been called back to the system.]

Immediately after that, another notification rang out:

Ding!

[Skill: Clone Merge has been activated.]

[Merge: King Rayden.]

Ding!

[Fusion complete.]

Liyu’s eyes snapped open, but they were no longer the same, with his pupils now a deep, brilliant green and overwhelming green lightning crackling violently within those green eyes, arcs of lightning dancing around his pupils like miniature serpents as the aura surrounding him surged once more.

Liyu tightened his grip around the abyss-like sword, his gaze locking onto Shi Tian with no hesitation, no fear, and only an absolute and chilling determination: "I would make sure to kill you."
