Golden light poured through every window at once, and Kai’s eyes narrowed. "...Here we go."

BANG!

The entire building exploded around him, walls tearing apart under the barrage. He moved instantly, diving through a doorway as bullets ripped through the room he’d just left.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Concrete detonated in his wake. He dove through another opening, and the floor beneath him gave out entirely. He caught himself with Air Step.

WHOOSH!

He landed on the level below, and another volley tore straight through the ceiling above him.

"They really don’t want me staying anywhere," he muttered.

"You are the target," Tiamat said.

"I noticed."

He kept moving, the walls collapsing around him piece by piece, golden fire punching clean through everything in his path. He reached the far side of the building just as it gave way entirely behind him.

BOOM!

He hit the street, rolled, and came up already running.

"So cover doesn’t work," he said.

"Not for long."

"Good to know."

He glanced up. The guns were already repositioning, tracking him openly now. "...They’re following."

He kept moving, but this time he wasn’t only trying to survive. He was watching. Some weapons stayed fixed to a position. Others tracked him directly. Some stopped firing the instant he changed direction. Others kept the whole area suppressed regardless of where he went.

"They’re not all controlled the same way," he said.

"Explain."

"Some weapons are assigned to areas." He dodged a golden bolt. "Others are assigned to me." Another passed his shoulder. "The ones assigned to me keep following. The rest are controlling the battlefield."

Tiamat paused. "Good observation."

"Lily."

"I’m here."

"Track the weapons."

"I’m trying."

"Don’t track every weapon individually." He dodged a lance. "Track their zones."

A beat. "You think their coverage has limits."

"Yes."

"I’ll check."

"Find the gaps."

"Got it."

Lily fed data straight to Elden as fast as her hands could move, a map of Mythal blooming across the console, sections lighting up in overlapping colors.

"The guns have the widest range," Elden said, studying it.

"But their accuracy drops at extreme angles," Lily added.

"The lances?"

"Medium range."

"Swords?"

"Close range." She zoomed out. "And the hammers aren’t really tracking Kai."

"They’re destroying the environment around him," Elden realized.

"They’re removing his options," Lily confirmed.

Mira listened over the network. "So every weapon has a purpose."

"Yes."

"It’s similar to an army," Gabriel said.

"Or armor," Kai cut in, breathless.

"Armor?"

He glanced upward, weaving between two fresh strikes. "Every piece protects another. A sword covers close range. A lance covers distance. A hammer destroys cover. A gun controls the battlefield." He smiled despite everything. "It’s building an armor out of weapons."

"That’s a good description," Tiamat said.

He cut into a narrow alley without warning, and the effect was immediate, the swords losing sight of him overhead, lances unable to find a clean angle. Bullets still found him, but far fewer.

"...There."

"You found a weakness."

"Not exactly." He kept running through the tight space. "I found a limitation." Another bullet chipped the wall beside his head. "They have weapons for different situations. But they can’t all attack through every environment."

He started choosing his terrain deliberately after that, narrow alleys, half-collapsed buildings, underground entrances, streets walled in on both sides, anywhere that broke line of sight. The number of weapons reaching him dropped noticeably.

"That’s better."

"You are turning the city into a shield," Tiamat said.

He grinned. "Exactly."

Mira caught on fast, turning to the hunters gathered behind her. "Clear the routes."

A hunter looked confused. "Which routes?"

She pointed at the map. "The ones Kai is using."

Hunters started moving debris immediately, hauling a fallen wall clear, opening a blocked alley, clearing a collapsed stretch of road.

"Don’t try to protect Kai directly," Mira told them. "Protect his options."

They understood instantly.

"Kai," Lily said over the network.

"Go ahead."

"Turn left."

He turned. A golden hammer crashed down exactly where he would have been.

BOOM!

"Keep going."

He ran.

"Right."

He turned again, and a lance buried itself into empty street.

BOOM!

He glanced up, half-laughing. "Nice."

"The attack zones overlap less there," Lily said.

"Keep them coming."

"We’re not creating a permanent safe zone," Elden explained to the group. "We’re creating a moving one."

"Kai keeps moving," Mira said.

"And the team keeps clearing the route ahead," Gabriel added.

"So the entire city becomes my escape route," Kai said.

"Exactly," Mira confirmed.

He laughed despite the exhaustion pulling at him. "That’s actually pretty good."

For a few minutes, it worked. The number of attacks dropped, the corridor holding steady as he ran.

Then Lily’s voice tightened. "...Wait."

"What?" Elden asked.

"They’re changing." Weapons across the map began repositioning, attack zones shifting, guns rotating, lances relocating, swords appearing at fresh angles.

"They’re adapting to the corridor," she said.

"Of course they are," Kai muttered.

"You should have expected that," Tiamat said.

"I did." A pause. "I just hoped they wouldn’t."

The weapons started predicting his route now, and he broke his own pattern hard, left, right, sudden stop, reverse, jump, Air Step, several backward steps before cutting forward again.

"You’re deliberately breaking your rhythm," Tiamat noted.

"They learned my movement." He ducked a golden sword. "So I stopped giving them a pattern." A bullet passed close enough to feel. "They can’t predict something that keeps changing."

"Good."

Several golden swords formed directly in his path, and Sera got there first, blade already swinging.

CLANG!

One knocked aside. Another approached, and she cut it down too.

He ran through the gap. "Thanks."

"You’re welcome," she said, smiling despite the tension.

Another weapon formed, and Mira smashed it aside without slowing. "You’re not doing this alone."

"I know," he said.

"Good."

A golden lance appeared, and he summoned Tempest Fang, swinging it aside with a solid clang. A sword approached, and he switched to Null Fang, cutting it clean in half. A hammer materialized ahead, and he swapped to Rootbreaker, bracing to block it.

BOOM!

The impact sent him sliding backward across the stone, and he grinned through it. "Now that’s a weapon."

"You’re finally treating them as weapons," Tiamat said.

"They are weapons."

"Rather than relying on their special properties."

"Those aren’t always available."

Lily started calling out targets over the network. "Sword, left!"

Sera cut it down.

"Hammer, behind!"

Mira’s strike shattered it.

"Three lances incoming!"

Gabriel’s group fired, and two of the three vanished before they could land. Kai slipped through the remaining gap. The team had stopped scrambling and started functioning like one coordinated unit, nobody trying to end the fight outright, everyone simply making sure Kai always had one more direction to run.

Gabriel was studying the destroyed weapons scattered across the streets when something caught her attention. "Wait."

Lily glanced over. "What?"

Gabriel pointed. A destroyed golden sword hadn’t been replaced instantly. "They’re not instantly replacing what gets destroyed."

Lily checked the data fast, eyes widening. "She’s right."

Elden leaned in. "There’s a delay."

"A production delay," Lily said.

Kai heard it clearly. "So the arsenal has a limit."

"At least temporarily," Gabriel said.

He smiled. "That’s enough."

"Don’t destroy everything," he ordered. "Destroy the weapons controlling my escape routes."

"I’ll mark them," Lily said immediately.

"We’ll redirect the remaining city defenses," Elden added.

"I’ll handle the close-range weapons," Sera said.

"I’ll deal with the heavy ones," Mira said.

"The Church can help with the ranged weapons," Gabriel said.

"Perfect," Kai said.

The counterattack began in earnest. Golden swords fell to Sera’s blade one after another. Hammers shattered under Mira’s strikes. Lances dropped under a coordinated volley from Gabriel’s Church members. Kai threaded through every gap they created, and the sky above Mythal began emptying, one weapon at a time.

One. Two. Five. Ten.

He noticed it as his breathing finally steadied. "...It’s working."

"Yes."

He smiled, exhausted. "Finally."

The guns kept disappearing, the pressure easing off with every passing minute. Sera glanced upward. "There are fewer."

"Significantly fewer," Lily confirmed.

"Did we actually push it back?" Mira asked, disbelieving.

"Maybe," Kai said.

"Maybe?" Gabriel echoed.

"It’s too early to celebrate."

Then, all at once, everything stopped.

Silence blanketed the sky. Every remaining golden weapon froze mid-motion. No swords moving. No bullets firing. No lances descending. No hammers falling.

Nothing.

"They’re inactive," Lily reported.

"Why?" Elden asked.

Kai stared upward. "...I don’t know."

Tiamat stayed silent. He waited. Five seconds. Ten.

Then the weapons began moving again.

Not toward him.

Golden swords drifted through the sky, converging on other weapons rather than descending. Lances shifted. Hammers repositioned. Guns rotated in place, gathering into loose clusters.

Lily’s eyes widened. "They’re grouping."

"Why?" Elden asked.

Gabriel looked up, expression tight. "They’re combining."

Swords formed an outer frame in the sky. Lances slotted in as supports. Hammers locked into a solid core. Guns rotated around the growing structure like the teeth of some enormous mechanism.

Kai stared, unable to look away. "...It’s making something."

"Yes."

"Something bigger."

"Much bigger."

The structure kept growing until it hung over Mythal like a second sky, an armored, interconnected mass of blades, lances, hammers, guns, and rotating shields, everything the disaster had thrown at him now fused into a single overwhelming shape.

Lily’s voice shook. "That’s..."

"A completely different threat," Elden finished.

Mira gripped her weapon. "Can we destroy it?"

Nobody answered.

Kai looked at the structure, then at the ruined streets around them, understanding settling in fully.

"Our plan worked."

Sera looked at him. "That’s good."

He shook his head. "Not exactly." He pointed upward. "We forced it to stop using thousands of separate weapons." A tired smile crossed his face. "So it combined them into one."

"You made the arsenal stronger by forcing it to become concentrated," Tiamat said.

He sighed. "I knew there was a catch."

Everyone gathered below, Lily and Elden already pulling readings from the new structure, Mira positioning the hunters into defensive lines, Gabriel organizing the Church, Sera standing beside Kai, Raze gripping his sword tight despite his exhaustion.

Nobody was panicking. Four disasters survived. Improvising had become second nature.

Kai smiled faintly. "We’ve got another problem."

"Just one?" Raze asked.

Kai laughed. "Fair."

"We can’t attack it from below," Lily said. "Its weapons cover every angle."

"Then we need to force it to expose a weakness," Gabriel said.

"How?" Mira asked.

Kai looked up at the towering structure. "Make it attack."

Everyone turned toward him.

"It’s been reacting to me since the beginning," he said, gripping his sword. "So let it."

Sera understood immediately. "You want it to reveal its weak point."

"Exactly."

The enormous weapon began to move, energy gathering visibly across its surface, the entire sky bleeding gold. What little snow and frost remained on Mythal’s rooftops began glowing faintly under the light.

"Once you move, we won’t know what it’s going to do," Lily warned.

"I know."

"Then don’t take unnecessary risks," Mira said.

He smiled. "I’ll try."

Sera looked at him flatly. "That’s not reassuring."

"It’s honest."

The structure lowered slowly, the pressure building with every meter. Buildings groaned under it. Windows shattered across the block. Hunters braced. The last remaining barriers across the city flared to life.

"All systems!" Lily shouted.

"Maximum available output!" Elden called.

"Church barriers ready!" Gabriel confirmed.

"Everyone hold!" Mira ordered.

Kai raised his sword.

"This is different from the others," Tiamat said quietly.

"I know."

"Then don’t assume your previous methods will work."

He smiled, steady despite everything. "I won’t."

The gigantic structure split open all at once, hundreds of golden guns emerging from within its core, lances extending, blades unfolding, hammers locking into firing position. The whole thing reshaped itself into a single massive weapon platform hanging over the city.

Kai stared up at it. "...That’s ridiculous."

"Yes."

The entire structure began to glow, brighter and brighter, until it lit the whole of Mythal like a second sun.

Then—

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

A gigantic golden beam descended, thousands of weapons falling with it, the whole sky crashing down toward the city at once.
