My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 436: Hope She’s Okay

  • Next Chapter

Wyatt Wynn had made it up. Faye Fisher hadn’t left any bracelet with him at all. He could only pause when Zeke Walton said that.

"What a hassle, you’d have to go and deliver it to her. You know what, just give it to her another day. It’s not like she’s in a hurry. It’s just a bracelet; it’s not like you’re going to steal it from her."

Zeke Walton thought that made sense. "Alright then, just give it to her next time you meet. Hanging up."

After hanging up, Wyatt Wynn was even more irritated.

He couldn’t get Faye Fisher’s number. It looked like he would have to talk to her in person.

’No. I have to go to the hospital, too.’

With that thought, Wyatt Wynn went to the hospital alone.

To avoid being spotted, he bought a fruit basket and a bouquet of flowers, carrying them for show.

If he ran into anyone, he would just say he was visiting Brandon Jacobs’s father or Zeke Walton’s mother.

He hadn’t considered visiting Brandon Jacobs’s father before, so he hadn’t found out which room he was in. Now that he was at the hospital, he had to ask.

The young nurse at the nurses’ station saw how tall and handsome he was and was more than willing to talk to him, so Wyatt Wynn easily got the information he needed.

"Do many people usually come to visit him? When do they typically stop by?"

The nurse replied, "There were a lot when he was first admitted, but not many people visit now. Besides his own family, the room is usually very quiet. I heard the gentleman has a special status, so they’re very careful about such things to avoid a bad impression."

Wyatt Wynn asked, "So, if I go in now, there won’t be anyone in the room besides his family, is that right?"

"That should be right," the nurse said. "When I went to deliver his medicine just now, there was only one woman inside."

Wyatt Wynn asked, "What kind of woman? Is she pretty?"

"Of course she’s pretty," the nurse said. "There are two women in their family, and each one is more beautiful than the last."

Wyatt Wynn guessed it must be Faye Fisher. He thanked the nurse and headed to the hospital room.

He never expected that just as he reached the door, it would be pushed open from within by Mrs. Jacobs. She was the one who had been in the room.

Thank God he was holding something. Wyatt Wynn quickly held out his gifts.

"Auntie, I’m so sorry. It’s been so long since I got back from Seacliff, and I haven’t had a moment to come see Uncle. How is he doing? Please don’t worry too much."

Mrs. Jacobs hadn’t expected him to be so thoughtful as to actually visit her husband. She accepted the gifts with a warm smile.

"It’s an old problem. It’s been so many years, so we were prepared. We’re doing alright, really. But you kids, you’re all so busy. We’ve made you worry."

Wyatt Wynn said softly, "How could you say that, Auntie? You watched us grow up. You’re being too formal. Brandon and I grew up together, so I’m practically half a son to you. Please, don’t hesitate to ask. If you ever need anything, just give me a call."

Mrs. Jacobs was delighted to hear this. "Okay, okay, in that case, I won’t be polite. You’re all good kids. Come in, have a seat. Your uncle just fell asleep."

Hearing that, how could Wyatt Wynn dare to go in?

"No, no, since Uncle is asleep, I won’t go in. Just chatting with you for a bit is enough. Auntie, are you here all by yourself? That won’t do. It’s too exhausting for you."

Mrs. Jacobs quickly explained, "Normally, Faye comes with me. That child... even though she only married into the family a few days ago, she is so wonderfully dutiful. She takes such good care of your uncle—we all just adore her. Yesterday, that thoughtless Brandon took her to a party. Faye can’t drink at all, but she drank several glasses to cover for him and was throwing up all night when she got back. I saw she was still feeling unwell today, so I told her not to come. Usually, when she’s here, I don’t have to lift a finger."

’Faye Fisher takes great care of Uncle Jacobs? They all adore her? Brandon said they went to a party last night, and Faye can’t drink, so she only drank that much to take the fall for him?’

From Mrs. Jacobs’s words, Wyatt Wynn could feel the deep affection Brandon’s parents had for Faye Fisher.

And although Brandon Jacobs wasn’t in love with her, he was, at the very least, protective of her.

Thinking about what Brandon Jacobs had said last night and now hearing his mother-in-law’s words, Wyatt Wynn’s heart ached even more.

He had originally assumed that Faye Fisher married Brandon Jacobs just to spite him. He thought she was alone and unsupported in the Jacobs family, forced to get by through pretending to be virtuous and gentle. He had been prepared to make her divorce Brandon and take her away.

But starting last night, he realized that wasn’t the case at all.

Brandon Jacobs wasn’t in love with her, but he didn’t dislike her, either.

And today, he had learned just how satisfied the Jacobs’ parents were with her. He felt lost, and even more regretful.

He felt that if he hadn’t responded to Faye Fisher’s resentful provocations from the very beginning, maybe she would have truly given up on him. Then she would have surely resigned herself to living a devoted life with Brandon Jacobs.

But now...

He wanted to bang his head against a wall.

’Wyatt Wynn, oh, Wyatt Wynn, are you even human? Brandon Jacobs is your brother! You...’

All he could do was hope that Faye Fisher would be all right.

Although he desperately wanted to see her in person and clear the air, he knew he would lose his composure the moment he saw her. It was better not to meet.

To stop himself from giving in to the impulse, Wyatt Wynn personally took on a project and left for another city that very afternoon.

「Meanwhile, with Brandon Jacobs.」

Donna Thorne rested for a night. The next morning, she got up early and took a taxi to the livestreaming hub Brandon Jacobs had told her about.

It was her first time in Veridia. The city was so big and beautiful. Normally, she would have explored a bit, or at least hit the famous tourist spots before diving into work, but she couldn’t wait.

Staying in such a luxurious hotel, spending Brandon Jacobs’s money like water—if she couldn’t start earning an income soon, she would die of anxiety.

The livestreaming hub was huge. An entire street was lined with one studio after another, a sight that nearly blinded her.

She never imagined that this world she’d only scrolled past on her phone, something that had felt so distant, would now be right in front of her eyes.

Donna Thorne walked the entire length of the street and back, which took over an hour. Watching the diverse crowds of people hurrying in and out of the studios, her desire to find a job reached a fever pitch.

She immediately went into a nearby copy shop, had them print fifty copies of her resume, and then began applying at each studio one by one.

Every studio had a large ad posted at its entrance recruiting female livestreamers. With her height and looks, every studio was willing to give her an interview, but Donna wasn’t interested in every studio.

Before coming, she had done a lot of online research on the industry. A successful female livestreamer could earn at least thirty to fifty thousand a month in commission.

She set a rule for herself: she had to earn at least fifty thousand a month.

So, for the studios that said she had no livestreaming experience and needed to start as an assistant to learn the ropes, she turned them down flat.

In the end, after covering the entire street, Donna Thorne had her heart set on only two studios.

One sold cosmetics. It required a 12-hour shift every day, during which she would have to constantly try on makeup for the livestream. Although the hours were long and it would be hard on her skin, the cosmetics brand was fairly well-known. She had come across their livestream before and figured their sales couldn’t be too bad.

The other was for an entertainment livestreamer, offering an unconditional base salary of five thousand a month.

The boss who interviewed her was a man of few words. He said just one thing: "I have streamers who’ve made over twenty million in a single month. They work for two months and then quit. If you’ve got the guts, come on board."

Donna was desperate from poverty, terrified of it. As long as she could make money, she wasn’t afraid of hardship or exhaustion. But she lacked the nerve. After thinking it over, she decided to go with selling cosmetics.
